Summerishere123 · 21/09/2022 16:45

Thought we could share what is good and what isn't to avoid others wasting money!
So far I have tried...

Fishcakes - not great
Salted peanuts - wayyyy to salted.
crisp - quite nice
tiny potato balls - very nice
Fishfingers - edible
Garlic baguette - nice

Anything you would or wouldn't recommend?

The multi pack corn snacks are good, so x2 wotsits, x2 onion rings and x2 chipstix for 62p. Really flavourful.

MayFlower22 · 22/10/2022 00:53

The sausages are really nice , probably the best product in the range along with the potato pops.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 22/10/2022 09:52

Yesssss! First online order where the potato poppers are in stock!! They are nestled in my freezer and I can't wait to try them :)

ghostsandpumpkinsalready · 22/10/2022 09:57

My little girl like the lasagna and the garlic baguette (she declared they use more butter so it's juicy).
The salted peanuts were nice because they are very salty.
The tinned sardines are nice.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/10/2022 16:26

I don’t usually shop in Asda

But intrigued what these potato balls are that you are all ravings about ?

I may give it a go but it’s a good 20m drive each way

MayFlower22 · 23/10/2022 13:48

@Blondeshavemorefun they are small oven cook pototo balls, they taste a bit like smiley faces but crunchier on the outside.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/10/2022 14:57

Thanks @MayFlower22

Tesco do something similar, I've got some in the freezer.

Happy to report I finally got my hands on the potato pops and they are very nice 👌

SmallPrawnEnergy · 26/10/2022 09:07

Sausages , tasteless, pink, flabby and flaccid

You’re supposed to cook them.

Once cooked they’re fine, not the highest pork content but higher than Richmond. They were 80p for 8 when I bought them too…. Not to be sniffed at.

Twilight7777 · 28/10/2022 22:12

Tinned custard. Don’t bother! Tasteless

ilovepixie · 28/10/2022 22:22

I've tried the
Strawberry trifle
Red Leicester
Corned beef
Pork belly slices
All very good

Chocolate mousse
Fromage frais

Not very nice.

Howmanysleepsnow · 01/11/2022 23:30

Grated cheese
mince
nachos
bacon
porridge oats
fishfingers
pasta
are all very good

hot chocolate- not for me but the kids liked it

chicken thighs- horrendous, about 1 thigh of meat in 1kg
tea bags- even with 3 per cup didn’t get beyond pale beige

MarthanotMarfa · 02/11/2022 00:03

The steak is good but not thick. Marinated and high heat pan cooked into simple steak frites with bernaise sauce and green salad and my dh raved about the “new” steak…which proved his point that it’s worth paying more hmmmmm! He still thinks they were 10 plus each aged steak from Waitrose.

Stressedmummyof4 · 02/11/2022 00:15

So far we've tried

Potato pops - kids love them
Spaghetti loops - good
Frozen sausages- kids didn't mind hubby not so keen
Braising steak - delicious in slow cooker
Chicken - just like any other chicken really
Toilet roll - alright good size rolls
Cloths - no complaints
Garlic bread - just the exact same as the next range up
Yorkshire puddings - lovely
Low fat yoghurt - lovely with added fruit
Choc chip cookies and caramel wafers - wouldn't buy anything else now kids love them
Diet cola / lemonade - pretty tasteless
Diluting juice - found it a better buy to buy the next range up larger bottle and didn't need as much in the water
Tea bags - absolutely fine

Can't really think of much else we've used so far

Stressedmummyof4 · 02/11/2022 00:16

Oh and the orange and apple juice absolutely fine, also got the smoked and unsmoked bacon at the start was fine good cuts not a lot of fat but haven't been able to get it recently

Stressedmummyof4 · 02/11/2022 00:18

scrufffy · 21/09/2022 17:33

Dd loved the curry sauce. (The one you add to chicken etc) v like from a Chinese take away she thought.

We tried this too but I ended up having to take all the currents out Smile kids didn't like them lol

Tilda77 · 02/11/2022 00:21

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 11/10/2022 16:54

Their frozen strawberry cheesecake. 68p. So there goes the flipping diet again. 😋

DS loves these too. Didn't think they'd stay at that price for long though...they were 85p this week

Decafflatteplease · 02/11/2022 10:08

We are buying more and more of this range each week, I've basically stopped going to lidl now as I pass Asda anyway and the new range is pretty comparable in price.

Latest things we like...

Potatoes..massive bag for £1.20 having them as jackets tonight. not as big as actual jackets but we can always have 2 😂

Coleslaw fine on jackets above

Choc chip cookies lovely

DC prefer the Yorkshire's to aunt Bessie's!

Teens love the frozen cheese and bean bakes for snacks done in the air fryer

Garlic bread really delicious but creeping up in price.

Pork mince the same as normal pork mince but again creeping up.in price

Teacakes the kind you toast... absolutely fine for DC supper

We are trying the frozen strawberry cheesecake tonight ask lots of people on here have said it's good...will report back

Decafflatteplease · 02/11/2022 10:09

DC also devour the potato balls

Cooking bacon also really good in carbonara etc it's really tasty and something like 79p I used to pay £3 for carbonara bacon 😱

Decafflatteplease · 02/11/2022 10:11

Thought of another one...6 pack crisps for 60odd pence and they are really nice. 2 salt vinegar 2 cheese 2 plain.

OrangePumpkinLobelia · 02/11/2022 10:12

SaintVal · 21/09/2022 17:13

My DS7 on the Asda essentials chocolate and hazelnut spread: "Mum, I like this knock-off Nutella" 🙈😂

aaaah... love it!

LeFeu · 02/11/2022 14:57

My kids like the frozen cheese and tomato pizza. The cream cheese is the same as any other cream cheese, but it regularly. I always buy value tinned plum tomatoes, never seen the need for expensive ones and they do the job. Ditto spaghetti hoops, but my husband is a massive baked bean snob and he says the value ones won’t do….

the chocolate digestive biscuit bars and crisps are fine for lunch boxes. Don’t bother with the caramel water bars. Fish fingers split the jury here but I’m not paying £7(!!) for a 30 pack of birds eye!

LeFeu · 02/11/2022 15:02

Oh, the wheat bisks are pretty good too, although smaller than the supermarket normal ones or branded. If you have hungry kids they might need3 rather than 2

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/11/2022 15:02

Not food, but the Ada essentials loo paper is brilliant, doesn't shred all over the place and is still very comfortable to use
