i didn’t realize the funeral is literally on all day,

needastrongoneagain · 19/09/2022 08:21

Menu plan

Today - left overs from yesterday
Monday - gnocchi with creamy garlic mushrooms and spinach
Tuesday - aubergine parmigiana.
Wednesday - broth and crusty bread
Thursday - chickpea and roast red pepper burgers
Friday - roast veg toad in the hole
Saturday - use up veggie curry/chilli etc.

Snacks - beetroot crisps. Courgette and feta muffins (if I can be arsed).

needastrongoneagain · 19/09/2022 08:21

Website - Tesco.

ThisisCollie2022 · 19/09/2022 08:50

My menu plan was very rushed and was

Yesterday: Vegan hotdogs & Homemade chips
Today: Roast chicken
Tomorrow: Leftover chicken, pesto broccoli pasta
Wed: Homemade Pizzas
Thursday: Homemade salmon fish cakes, chips and carrot & peas
Friday: Homemade pasties
Saturday: lentil spinach curry and naans with leftover fresh veggies.

Sainsburys substituted our normal bread for 39p bread. I didn't think it was possible to have such cheap bread!! I'm sure 79p was their cheapest so it must be new!

ThisisCollie2022 · 19/09/2022 09:05

I can confirm that the Sainsburys 39p bread is ideal for toast! Just in case any lurkers or posters want to know 😊

Gensola · 19/09/2022 09:09

Can confirm airfryer scones are a bad, bad idea 😂🙈

needastrongoneagain · 19/09/2022 09:09

Your menu plan sounds great collie, that's cheap bread! We sometimes use the 79p one and it's fine.

ThisisCollie2022 · 19/09/2022 09:10

36p not 39p! It says its the Aldi price match stuff

We don't have tesco, morrisons or asda near us so we're literally stuck with Sainsburys. And Aldi if we're going in that direction.

ThisisCollie2022 · 19/09/2022 09:13

need I quite like the 79p bread too!

I'm a little bread fussy as my tum is sensitive to gluten. I'm addicted to sour dough and crumpets (especiallysour fough crumpets!!). Which I can't eat without being in pain for 3 days afterwards!! Sometimes I eat it anyway because I'm silly 🤪

mustbefunny · 19/09/2022 09:20

I have baking plans today too! I have a glut of apples to use and a bag of seeds lurking in the cupboard. I want to make some kind of apple cake and cheesy seedy biscuits or scones. I also have a courgette and some feta so may make those muffins!

Oh, and I'd better do a bit of work 🙄

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/09/2022 09:29

Noted re the air fryer scones thanks Gen

I like the Aldi cheap bread in the blue packet. I’m going to swap from hobos for us.

im copying some meals

Wolfcub · 19/09/2022 09:29

What went wrong with them Gen? I had a bad batch of scones in the airfryer last week but I'm convinced that was a cutting of the scones error

ThisisCollie2022 · 19/09/2022 09:36

Omg I was so taken with Aldi the other day that I've written down 7 items we buy every week that have risen sharply in price.

Sainsburys: £10.45
Aldi: £5.71

Both own brand stuff. Wraps, baguettes, crisps etc

Scowls at Sainsburys!!

Gensola · 19/09/2022 09:41

wolf they didn’t rise at all, they were like dough balls

Gensola · 19/09/2022 09:41

our new oven isn’t coming til 27th 😭

marthasmum · 19/09/2022 09:59

Just following the chat with interest about different areas. I agree, some aren’t recognised as having difficulties are they? That’s really sad about kids not being able to afford to get to the beach. gen I felt like I knew where you lived when you described it - then realised I was being this entirely on a scene from The Fall 😂. I hope you are feeling a little better, that’s all you needed.
lots of love to you need your situation sounds very tough.
I’ll be doing some work to catch up for student induction tomorrow, so no spends here. Will probably watch the funeral in the background.
£102 at Aldi and £75 at Tesco which sounds loads but the cupboards are completely full with the essentials for a month. And for once I spent to budget, hurray! Now need to top up each week with fresh fridge stuff, packed lunch stuff and fruit and veg. Which is more than I thought…the price of basics is really shocking now isn’t it.
I’ve used my Tesco points on a year’s delivery (you stop being able to do that from nov) and plan is to do more online shopping. I’ve a busy few weeks coming up so should help with that.
have a good day everyone

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/09/2022 10:21

Believe it or not M&S was cheapest for butter last week at £1.75 a pat

needastrongoneagain · 19/09/2022 10:32

Thanks, martha, yep - things are pretty hard at present, and slightly surreal.

I'm watching the funeral but doing some catching up and admin too.

And faffing on MN...

I feel I ought to be doing though, I'm not great at sitting during the day.

Where do you get the comparisons for supermarket prices Life. Agree though, you can get some surprisingly cheap items at M&S.

needastrongoneagain · 19/09/2022 10:34

Ignore, found a website to compare.

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/09/2022 11:12

Only by being in M&S and being surprised

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/09/2022 11:16

Think there is a comparison site something to do with in your trolley, not used out though,

been watching the pomp and doing housework, out with dog now as his routine does stop, it’s very quiet

kessiebird · 19/09/2022 12:23

I paid £1.99 for butter at Lidl yesterday, I did a double take at the price as I needed two packs. Noted re M&S. Had offered to bake a pie for MIL and FIL (she's very poorly on chemo).

Pie made for PIL, blackberry crumble made plus 8 jars of rhubarb and ginger preserve ready for Christmas presents Sausages and bbq chicken cooked, now in fridge for the next few days. That's the main baking / cooking done until Saturday, although pizza dough tomorrow for DD and her friend after school.

Tonight is the first night in four where I haven't collected DS and his friend from the hotel they work in. Normally about 11.45pm when I get in. 😴😴

Agree re levels of deprivation across so many areas. 😢

ThisisCollie2022 · 19/09/2022 12:31

I used to use Trolley. But it wasn't always accurate x

mustbefunny · 19/09/2022 14:15

So I didn't manage much on my original list but have made:
Fruit cake
Chocolate brownies
Healthy flapjack bars
Harissa roast veg
Bubble and squeak patties
Apple crumble x 2

Most is portioned up and in the freezer

Wolfcub · 19/09/2022 14:16

Gen I had another experiment and if you have a bake function on your airfryer this recipe works at 200 for 12 mins amp.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2016/oct/06/how-to-make-the-perfect-cheese-scones
