Sounds like greed @ememem84
Does your local authority do a yearly parking permit ? We have one here and rates for residents are pretty good..

ememem84 · 12/10/2022 11:01

Decafflatteplease · 12/10/2022 07:10

😱 what is it currently? Eg if you already pay £400 it's not a massive rise but that sounds alot anyway to me. Being nosy, why do you rent a parking space?

cutrently £170.

we rented a space which was directly underneath the dc nursery. So nice and easy to get them in and out without having to get outside. and it was guaranteed.

The other questions I think we can get parking season tickets for public car parks. Definetly used to be able to anyway. However the government has limited all day parking in town to two car parks only in an attempt to encourage people into town to shop. All other ones are only for 3 hours at a time.

DH can have a space at his work. But not guaranteed. You have to book then every day. 20 spaces for 100 people. Not cool.

I need to drive in as my hours have changed and the bus times don’t work for me - so annoying! But I’m happy to pay for parking in public spaces. Even if it means I park further out and walk (actually spaces on the sea front are free or half price I think during winter!). Get my steps in.

but I’m not paying £450 a month. No way

ememem84 · 12/10/2022 11:28

Just checked. Season tickets are £145 a month. Or £72 if I park further out (free from -oct to end March)

Laska2Meryls · 12/10/2022 11:38

Get an electronic fold bike and park further out on a free space after dropping DCs? The bike would pay for itself pretty quickly

Laska2Meryls · 12/10/2022 11:40

We have MiRider bikes to use in the van , they are great , and fold up in a bag , but I think that you can buy cheaper ones from Halfords

I’m afraid of bikes. Would rather walk. It’s not far!

Timetoswitch · 12/10/2022 12:20

That’s such a greedy increase in cost em. Not surprised you have cancelled. You could get an adult scooter, although walking is good for you too and sea air in the morning should be nice.

Timetoswitch · 12/10/2022 12:22

Welcome cuppasoupmonster

In frugal news, I set up a new savings account yesterday to get a few more pennies of interest on my small amount of savings.

Alfiemoon1 · 12/10/2022 12:30

Hi all can I ask for peoples opinion I started with a cold last Wednesday honestly thought it was just the cold doing the rounds at ds college continued to go to work as felt well enough felt rubbish on Saturday so spent the day in bed but did a covid test as was due to see dsi and dm who are vulnerable it was positive felt well enough to go into work on Monday still not 100% but better than Saturday but was still testing positive
rang work explained I was willing to go in but was testing positive and asked for their advice as I haven’t been set up to work from home was told they would discuss it with the other hr person and call me back which they didn’t
I’ve been off ever since but have rung each day and left a message as still testing positive I’ve asked for a call back to discuss what company policy is as it was previously 2 negative tests before being allowed back in but haven’t had a call back

I am thinking of not testing anymore and just going back in tomorrow because as far as I am aware the current government guidelines are you are unlikely to be infectious 5 days after testing positive
I am still on probation as they never got round to doing my review so don’t want to be sacked but I don’t get paid when off sick

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/10/2022 12:54

As far as I know the general advice it’s it’s treated as any other sickness so if you feel
well enough to work, do it,
if they haven’t updated you and not rung back that’s not great,
there is the moral issue if you work with vulnerable people but that’s a risk with a lot of conditions too.
there is no obligation to test now either so I would have done to meet vulnerable families but not for work,
i don’t work with at risk people

Alfiemoon1 · 12/10/2022 13:19

That’s what I thought which is why I asked for their advice as the person I sit next to is 12 weeks pregnant another person on my team has lost 3 family members to covid and they have just had the office deep cleaned due to an outbreak and were having 50% of the staff working from home to reduce the spread

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 12/10/2022 16:25

Afternoon everyone Smile
Spends today 33 Aldi on toiletries, crisps , biscuits & teabags.
Their crisps, biscuits and the decaff tea bags are much cheaper than anywhere else and we like them .
Just been looking at Christmas spending , it's 10 weeks Sunday Christmas day Shock

Timetoswitch · 12/10/2022 17:04

alfie we still count the day of test as day 0, and then you stay at home up to and including day 5. So in your scenario we’d be letting you come back to work on Friday. But everyone gets full sick pay….

Timetoswitch · 12/10/2022 17:04

Could you ask to work from home?

Timetoswitch · 12/10/2022 17:06

I would make it very clear to them if you are fit enough to work from home.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/10/2022 19:26

In that case I would make it very clear you are fit to work (assuming you are) and what do they want you to do

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/10/2022 19:27

In writing too, everything via email

Alfiemoon1 · 12/10/2022 19:31

I am not set up to work from home. I feel fine now so I am just going to go back in tomorrow it was Saturday I tested positive. I have felt ok to go in all week and I don’t get paid for being off sick. They are just winding me up not returning my calls as to what their policy is. If I go in they can always send me home if they aren’t happy

CurlsandCurves · 12/10/2022 20:57

@Alfiemoon1 this must be so frustrating! There’s people with vulnerable family members in our team so we agreed a 5 day absence on testing positive. And if anyone is still testing positive after that then we take it day by day.

Small spend of £8 on Amazon for some of those dehumidifier pots you put on your windowsill. Our bedrooms have so much condensation in the morning.
And about £3 on bread, lettuce and tomatoes.

Had our £66 from BGas today, yay!

Timetoswitch · 12/10/2022 21:07

Thanks curls, just checked our account and the £66 from edf arrived for us too today.

I’m dreading seeing how much the bill/usage will be at the end of the month. We’re only using heating for a short amount in the morning, but this evening it has felt cold.

ememem84 · 12/10/2022 21:09

Timetoswitch · 12/10/2022 12:20

That’s such a greedy increase in cost em. Not surprised you have cancelled. You could get an adult scooter, although walking is good for you too and sea air in the morning should be nice.

And when I say right by the sea it’s literally right by the sea. If the tide is high and the wind is crazy the sea comes out over the wal to get you! It’s brill!

I actually looked on my way home at how far it was. Definetly doable. The only “issue” is that I’d have to drive almost all the way into town to turn back around and park as it’s a dual carriage way and the parking is on the “other side”

I’ll work it out.

in other news DH is away again. I think he’s an idiot. He has a stinking stinking cold and got on a plane to go to London. For three days. Ffs.

this evening I’ve had enough of my car smelling so have washed the kids car seat covers. In the hopes that it’s that that is making the smell (sort of like off milk raw chicken ick)

theyrr washed and spun and outside on the line. I don’t need them until tomorrow afternoon so fingers crossed.

kessiebird · 12/10/2022 21:31

Em that is really expensive, I'd cancel too. I used to park on the edge of town and walk a mile into work and back. It really got my steps up.

Alfiemoon that does sound difficult. No real advice, but what the others said. 😊

Mrs that's too soon, I'd better get cracking! I'm also back on board with Aldi since Lidl changed their coupon plus app..

LSD £3.35 postage on an ebay parcel but buyer paid that. Think I made £3 on the coat after fees. Had a quick run to the post office and back to save on fuel / get some exercise. £5 for DD to take on a school trip.

£66 credit on my bill this month too. My overall bill was £107, owe £41.

WeightoftheWorld · 12/10/2022 21:49

Alfie I really feel for you, it is rubbish to have covid, lose pay, and then have work being totally unhelpful. I think if you feel well enough just go back in and query it all once you're back in? Hope you're ok and not too worried about it all.

Spends: £2 bus fare to work, £2 bus fare home. Both journeys absolute nightmares as the bus to/from my work only runs half-hourly and is soo unreliable.

Doing an extra day of work tomorrow in one of my jobs so that's an extra days income which is good. Feel bad having the kiddies at nursery an extra day though when they've both got colds especially little DS who has been full of it and sleeping terribly, poor thing.

Rattlethestars · 12/10/2022 23:49

Had hoped for a nsd but realised my eldest had run out of certain snack he likes, so had to go to the shop and ended up spending £15odd, but I picked up a few extras that were cheaper/can't seem to get in Tesco.
(my son has autism and sensory issues with food so we need specific foods in the house for him or he won't eat much at all)

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/10/2022 07:21

Nsd planned today , failed the rest of the week
if you are well go in alfie
that’s a bonkers hike em
