Ill be going to Aldi also to stock up on wine.

Laska2Meryls · 13/10/2022 08:18

Oh blimey, how did that come out in Bold?

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/10/2022 09:41

😂

ememem84 · 13/10/2022 12:36

Ok @Laska2Meryls we get it!

I’ve just been out and about. Into vair posh jewellers. To pick up a watch for my clients daughters wedding gift. We made the wire payment earlier today. Just a cool £18,000. On a stunningly beautiful (and quite understated) Cartier watch.

it’s now safely in the safe here at work. For her to pick up tomorrow.

(obviously I tried it on….)

Decafflatteplease · 13/10/2022 13:34

Rattlethestars · 12/10/2022 23:49

Had hoped for a nsd but realised my eldest had run out of certain snack he likes, so had to go to the shop and ended up spending £15odd, but I picked up a few extras that were cheaper/can't seem to get in Tesco.
(my son has autism and sensory issues with food so we need specific foods in the house for him or he won't eat much at all)

I hear you @Rattlethestars one of my DC has complex medical needs and our food bill is massive.

Decafflatteplease · 13/10/2022 13:42

Hi all

em that's a massive increase but sounds like you have it sorted. I'd totally try on the watch too. Bet it's nicer than my £1 vinted one 🤣

Alfie that's so frustrating about work hope they haven't sent you home

laska sounds like a fab day 🤣

Ive caved in and put the heating on even though I'm home alone. Bloody freezing. Came home and got in DC bed as it's in the warmest sunniest room with my iPad with the intention of getting some work done and I must have fallen asleep!

Also went to Lidl for toilet roll as we like that and it's a good price even though it's gone up by £1 in about 6 weeks. Did I get toilet roll....nope! Did I spend £50 on stuff we didn't need.....yep! Mind you it saves buying it on ocado as things will last eg cereal, snacks.

DH still hasn't been told how many paid days he can have off after my op. Uurgh. We need to plan and budget as some are going to have to be unpaid. Hospital say I will need someone at home for up to 2 weeks. Every day he takes off is a day less pay though obviously

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/10/2022 15:10

Can he wfh at all while you are recovering, even if not his usual job but those jobs that never seem to have time for

I would do have tried it on em

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/10/2022 18:22

My tumble dryer is making dying swan noises. Will call out the bloke next week

needastrongoneagain · 13/10/2022 20:21

decaff, our heating comes on a little in the morning, it takes the edge off the cold in the house. Don't blame you at all. When you sit, that's when you feel it too.

Quite the watch then em!

Hope the work thing sorted alfie

Money wise
£85 fuel FFS!
£5 car wash, rather longer than I ought to have gone, but scraped together change for it.
£6 Amazon

Frugal win, changed the DD from Eon to put the energy rebate on account rather than in my bank, and increased the balance (without rebate) by another £100 by being careful re energy.

Last two nights have been 'use up broth' with my free Lidl bakery Tiger bread and 'use up roast veg', Lidl pesto, Lidl gnocchi. Enough for lunch tomorrow. Tonight is our super busy, need something quickly tea.

Sorry if I've missed folk, but a busy few days.

Hope you're okay @CollieWobble22 xx

Rattlethestars · 13/10/2022 20:22

@Decafflatteplease it's tough isn't it. Does your child have sensory issues with food too? My son is 5 and quite skinny anyway so we have little choice but to pay for the foods he will eat.

NSD here today 👍

needastrongoneagain · 13/10/2022 20:32

@Laska2Meryls those recipes sound great. We are 90% veggie, but I've frozen fish and meat I need to use, probably eat this once a week, tomorrow being salmon, I'll post the recipe, it's from one of the new books I've bought.

WeightoftheWorld · 13/10/2022 23:13

Struggling to have any NSDs these days!

Spends:
£31ish in Asda on groceries, didn't get much for that but it did include washing liquid and some formula and baby snacks all of which are expensive. Having said that, I spotted Asda own brand washing liquid? Never seen it before but much cheaper than any brands so thought we'd try it. Non-bio and listed as sensitive so fingers crossed.

Then about £33 on stationary for work but will claim that back as a work expense eventually, kept my receipt.

Then about £5 on sanpro at the pharmacy. They usually have offers on but had none.

HalfWomanHalfChocolate · 13/10/2022 23:27

Argh, I’ve been MIA - don’t have much time for
posting, but have been reading. Regards to all! But today I popped into coop for milk and spring onions and spent £12. After a £30 top up on Tuesday. After £120 last weekend. WTF? So I need to sort myself out.

Rattle I have 2 kids with asd, one has a lot of challenges and quite a restricted diet. No specific sensory patterns but very rigid, only eats a limited range of familiar things and then inexplicably suddenly stops eating them (now won’t eat chips, that’s very inconvenient when out and about!). For about 4 years he had awful constipation and the only fruit he would eat was strawberries. Sigh.

We’re trying to get our building work off the ground again. We have a structural engineer coming on Monday must vacuum on Sunday. There will be a lot of value engineering to get the downstairs remodelling and new kitchen within our budget though, as inflation is seriously outrunning us.

I have a dilemma. My range cooker’s oven has broken AGAIN - there was a bang, and now no power. £350 to repair. It will be the second time I’ve replaced the main electronics board and last time it took weeks for the part to arrive, so I’m not sure we’ll have it before Christmas. It’s a gamble, and it’s silly money for a crap oven even when it works (and the big hob burner is also not working). I don’t want a range cooker in my new kitchen and so replacing it doesn’t make much sense but then again, if our building work is delayed again for whatever reason I’ll inevitably havep to get the thing repaired again in a year (it’s had at least 4 major breakdowns in 10 years, really crap, parts take forever, NEVER BUY SMEG!).

anyway, to muddle through we bought a Combi microwave. It makes pizza etc for the DC so actually a life saver, money well spent. But more cost, argh.

Nice to be back though!

Alfiemoon1 · 14/10/2022 00:52

Argh they sent me home as they want 2 negative tests before returning to the office and I had a faint positive today so that’s me off until Monday then. Thankfully we can manage me having 5 days off unpaid sick when feel ok to work

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/10/2022 07:12

That’s rotten Allie but at least you know
replace the oven weight. Even if it’s a serving second hand one it will be better than you have now. I did and just put another cupboard in the space.

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/10/2022 08:53

dropped my blooming phone in the pond - fml - got an old one out now until it (hopefully) dries
£52 aldi last night but no real meal plan - meat is sooo expensive - what veggie foods are iron rich for a fuss pot?

Timetoswitch · 14/10/2022 09:55

Oh no life 🤞it survives

I just did a click and collect from Caffè Nero for the first time. With the offers on my app it looked like I would then get two free drinks vouchers. Just as I hit pay, I realised I’d chosen the wrong store, fortunately just the other side of town up the opposite big hill 🤣

on the plus side I did get my two free drinks vouchers! But now a bit hot and bothered.

Laska2Meryls · 14/10/2022 10:10

Lovely lunch out yester and mt friend treated me . But then spent 35 in M&S on a new duvet for the van and some salsa ( M &S have stopped stocking the lovely chipotle one though , annoying) ..
The 68 in Sainsbury's, mainly on stuff for dinner Saturday and Christmas cake making things...

(And more than I care to admit in Aldi on wine ,- but it was 12 bottles. (Hopefully which will last us until the next visit in a month's time )

Today I have to go to the butcher for meat for tomorrows visitor's

(Ill try not to say all this in Bold today )
.

CurlsandCurves · 14/10/2022 10:14

Morning,

Got to use the tumble dryer today as I’ve already got one load airing indoors so no more room. Fortunately our energy account is looking very healthy so I can afford to use it a couple of times a week I think. Heating still hasn’t gone on yet.

Work starts next week on our rental house to get it up to standard for renting out again. DH and his dad will be doing most of the work. With me and DS1 helping out where we can.

Good frugal news, I found an old phone the other day. Looking on Facebook marketplace I should get about £120-130 for it. 🤞🏼it sells.

AdoraBell · 14/10/2022 17:26

Spendy day, me £8-ish on coffee and cake. DH paid the vet bill for Pirate, the eldest pooch, £298.

I’m exhausted, will catch up later.

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/10/2022 07:21

Went to Asda for stuff I could not get in Aldi, Christ it’s expensive

ememem84 · 15/10/2022 07:26

£98 😭 at dentist yesterday. Filling on wisdom tooth.

Rattlethestars · 15/10/2022 07:50

I will catch up with the thread later. Turns I'm now intolerant to soya (another to add to the list) and it destroyed my insides last night 😩

Yesterday's spends:
£110.26 on food shop in Tesco (didn't even contain meat aside from tuna)
£2.50 on a free from chocolate slice thing
£7.99 for games for DS' iPad

AdoraBell · 15/10/2022 11:04

Oooh, I love looking at sparkly things in jewellers. Well done making sure the strap is secure em 😉

Good luck with the phone sale Curles

🤞for your phone life, not sure about iron in foods, sorry.

👍 on the vouchers and exercise Time

Laksa glad you had a nice lunch with friend, hope tonight’s dinner goes well.

Alfiemoon1 · 15/10/2022 11:34

Morning all
spends today £55 online with Debenhams on a Yankee candle set for each of the kids for Christmas as they were half price free delivery and I got cash back
Sun is shining at the moment but forecast to rain later so will probably end up putting the washing in the dryer again
