Oh ffs.Grin
The ele unit price should be 66.92p/kwh down to 49.92p/kwh (i was looking at the standing charge before, not unit rate).

I've now run out of envelope space and .considering going back to bed.

If you fixed for two years at really cheap rates then some people would be paying a few hundred pounds after 1st October. That doesn’t seem right. I’m sure suppliers will have a way of targeting reducing fixes.
I am back on SVR now.

But it does not matter to suppliers if the government 'ie taxpayer' is picking up the tab.

Seems a bit silly though to have people, myself included, who will now be paying less than the new state cap.

Ramdogs · 11/09/2022 20:49

If you've recently fixed do the maths before you switch back to SVR. Your fixed rate will be reduced by 17p electric and 4.2p gas so you might be better off staying on the fix.

LimboLass · 11/09/2022 20:54

Yes I will certainly be staying on the fix. After the £66 a month and a few energy saving moves at home I will end up paying very close to the same as last winter.

LimboLass · 11/09/2022 21:00

I can see televisions adverts now

'incorrectly told to cancel your fixed rate? Ended up paying more for your energy by going back to the variable rate?'....'call energy lawers 4 u on 0800.....'

Bunch of parasitic fuckers know no bounds.

wlap · 11/09/2022 21:20

How high and recent does your fix need to be for the discount to apply though? I fixed in June so I'm not sure if I will get the discount.

"If you’re on a fixed tariff at a higher rate caused by recent energy price rises, your unit prices will be reduced by 17p/kWh for electricity and 4.2p/kWh for gas."

It's very frustrating - made more so because the Queen's passing means all business has suddenly gone to the back of the queue - but we just nees to wait until more concrete details are available before making decisions, I think.

It's all heresay at the moment.

For those interested, Martin Lewis now has a calculator and per kwh details for the new price cap...

Thanks! Ours is £98 a month so quite relieved. Plus we get the £400 this winter.

LadyFromage · 13/09/2022 19:52

Great @MinervaTerrathorn - am glad it's better for you than you expected!

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 14/09/2022 11:54

Is it true that the energy companies don't have all the details yet? I saw Martin Lewis quoted in the media as saying this. But the Govt released the details on 8/9 Sept?!

I just called Octopus and got so frustrated by someone who clearly didn't have a fucking clue about anything - kept warbling on about maybe the prices going up by 80%. I had to point out to her that the Govt website has already published the prices.

My query is whether the 17p and 4p will definitely be applied to all fixed tariffs as that will bring me just below the new price cap for elec and on par for gas. But if it's not applied I'd be better moving to the SVR now and saving a few pennies for the next two weeks.

dementedpixie · 14/09/2022 15:12

This is from the Octopus app
Maybe get personalised prices by the end of the week... hopefully

Thanks! Doesn't look like they've briefed their customer services team
