I'm seriously considering it...

StandUpForYourRights · 07/08/2022 08:53

Yes We did a month or so ago. Until July 23. Ummed and Ahhed over it at the time, but looking at the predictions, I'm glad we did

Silverbirch2 · 07/08/2022 08:53

Who are you with? I'm debating it.....

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/08/2022 08:59

eon next
it is not looking good but it was my time to renew
wondered about fixed versus unfixed and decided on fixed.

Can you please advise what I should do?… Pics attached.

The first one is current variable charges, which is what I’m on atm. It is a good couple of thousand less than the fixed.

Bit will it stay this way?! And when’s the best time to swap?

thanks

How did you do that?
I tried to do comparisons yesterday and different sites telling me I couldn't change supplier?!

That's for switching to a fixed tariff within the same supplier - not for changing to another supplier.

What are the unit prices and standing charges?

CornishTiger · 07/08/2022 09:15

Have an of you switched to Utility warehouse. There was a MSE post on it. 45% increase. Not sure if tariff still available. Martin Lewis not a massive fan of them as they are network marketing but he did say it was worth considering from a price point of view.

A friend did but she was already a customer of them. She removed her broadband and got a better deal elsewhere but added in insurance to make her eligible for the offer.

CornishTiger · 07/08/2022 09:18

Just realised they’ve changed it from 45 to 50% more now.

www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/-are-there-any-cheap--fixed-energy-deals-currently-worth-it--/

No idea if there is a refer a friend thing but if there is and you want my friend to do so I’m sure she’d oblige as she is really watching money at mo.

I’m so grateful to be on I’ve of the last decent fixes before they all got pulled. Fixed til Oct23. I dread to think what our bills will be next winter. It’ll almost certainly be more than double.

Twilightimmortal · 07/08/2022 09:22

I'm with edf and they say there's no fixed tariffs for pre pay

cardboardbox24 · 07/08/2022 09:25

I have just fixed with eon next, but still debating whether it was the right choice to make. It doesn't kick in for another week or two so I can still change my mind. It's going from £107 a month to £300. Variable is around £200 a month. No idea if I'm doing the right thing😫

dementedpixie · 07/08/2022 09:28

Monthly payment is meaningless. You need to compare price per kwh and standing charge. I'm not fixing as the fix offered by my supplier (octopus) is 80-110% higher than the current price cap which is more than the predicted rise in October. I am viewing the price cap as a short term fixed rate at the moment

MrsLargeEmbodied · 07/08/2022 09:29

i am in the same position as you @cardboardbox24
so a variable rate might have been better are you saying @dementedpixie , i did refer to martins money who wasnt conclusive, is he ever

CornishTiger · 07/08/2022 09:33

I think you need to look at the current price cap charges then add 72% to it. That is what Cornwall insights are predicting for the increase of the new price cap. Then decide if your fixed rate offer is better than that.

dementedpixie · 07/08/2022 09:35

I just checked the fix offered by Octopus and now the electricity price is 108% higher than the price cap and gas is 132% higher. I would be insane to fix at those prices

CornishTiger · 07/08/2022 09:35

Sorry as of Tuesday they are now saying 70%

Here are the current capped charges.

alspoj · 07/08/2022 09:38

What have you fixed at OP? Standing charge and per kWh?

dementedpixie · 07/08/2022 09:38

This shows my current prices and the loyalty tariff I'm offered. You need to work out the % increase in price per kwh to see if its worth fixing. In my case it isnt

We just fixed with eon, just got the next 17 before they ditched it. Very pleased we did looking at the predictions.

Wazzzzzuuuuuuup · 07/08/2022 09:41

My current fix with sse expires in September. I've been fortunate to be immune to the increases that have already happened but am set to take a hit now. My energy company had fucked up my billing (thankfully) leaving me to run up a credit as they were estimating (!) my smart meter readings.

I currently pay £190 pm dual fuel which is still too high for my usage and I have a credit on both fuels. The first pic is if I move to the standard rate and is (only?) a 28% increase in my current usage.

The fix I am being offered with sse is a 255% increase on my current payment.

I know the prices are only going up and up but I think we'll have to 'take the risky path of life' and stay on the standard rate. I've already banked the council tax rebate of £150 to offset future rises and will look at sticking a further £100 per month away during the autumn to at least have a sum built up for when the next rise hits. Having read Martin Lewis's advice, I think I would be daft to fix at a rate that is 100% of the standard rate when the worst case projection is a 70% rise.

But overall I just wanted to say how shit this is. And I acknowledge how much worse this is for people already absolutely struggling. Thanks for this thread reminding me to check. I've also just submitted a grant application for an organisation I am involved with to provide 'warm winter packs' to the local community with blankets, hot water bottles and thermal mugs in the hope that this will help some people keep their families warm.

Be very careful switching at the moment because nothing is set in stone re government help (or not!) and price increases.

Everyone will have £400 added to their energy account split over the months so reducing peoples payments by about £66 a month.
