Yeah but not cake like you guys bake! Just a basic Victoria sponge Smile

ememem84 · 23/08/2021 18:30

Oh I’ve told him not to rant. That it’s no ones fault but his own etc. I reminded every now and then. If he does get fined though it’ll be £1000. And it’ll be his to pay. Not mine. Because I can prove I submitted return well within the time given. And the tax office have confirmed receipt. And confirmed that I won’t be fined because of his not submitting by the deadline.

May have suggested to him that if he can’t do his own admin how on earth does he think he’d manage setting up a business. Maybe shouldn’t have said that….

But he’s all good now. There’s no more he can do.

Just wait.

Wolfcub · 23/08/2021 18:37

It's a fair point em. He couldn't fuck up a small business tax return the way he has his own

Unescorted · 23/08/2021 18:59

em I am not sure who I would be more angry at.. a system that keeps you as a chattel or your Dh for being flaky and lazy.

Martha there is no basic Victoria Sponge. It looks simple, but like an omelette it is really difficult to master. Happy birthday to your DP...

Life you should be a kids party organiser.

wolf just looking at our meals we are in the £9 per day ball park too. I need to take a look at that.

Evening everyone . Hope everyone is well and the weather is good, it's been lovely here today Grin
Spends 24 in Asda , nothing else though thankfully .
Martha Victoria Sponge is yummy Smile.

Happy birthday to your DP WineCakeStar
Em you have every right to be angry at your Dh , he needs to get his act together!

MeadowHay · 23/08/2021 20:17

Nice frugal day today. Got the bus with DD to my friend's - my contactless card didn't work again Confused so bus driver let me on for free. I was planning to use change to pay the return fare but when I got off another woman who got off my bus gave me her day ticket as she didn't need it anymore so used that for another free journey Grin. My friend fed us lunch too Grin.

Marth Don't worry I very rarely bake, I could count on one hand the number of times I've made a Victoria sponge cake. And everyone loves a Vikki sponge cake yum Smile

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/08/2021 20:31

You say that Martha but a good Victoria sponge is an achievement

Beaver leader unescorted so I’m grand until they are 8 then I’m out of ideas
Agree re the archaic system there still em. I would have said something similar but somehow when it’s work it gets done

ememem84 · 23/08/2021 21:00

Ooh a Victoria sponge. Yum.

The tax system here is ludicrous. Finally we’re paying for current year not prior year. Which has been a nightmare.

And if DH and I had not elected to be taxed separately (although seemingly not) I wouldn’t be allowed to speak to the tax office without his express permission.

A colleague does tax return for herself and husband. He doesn’t work. But she legally can’t speak about income she’s earned as the sole earner without his say so. Infuriating.

I feel mean though because it’s dhs birthday tomorrow and fil has brushed him off. It’s been in the diary for ages that they’d go and play golf. But not fils gf needs something. So DH has been booted out. I did not know this at the time. But this may have been part of his frustration too.

Nsd for me today. I’ve requested refunds for two Amazon purchases which have been crap. So should get £70 back. Yay.

HumbugWhale · 24/08/2021 07:08

That system is archaic Em! Nevertheless he should have got his act together.

Yesterday I bought a housewarming gift for someone and a few birthday cards to stock up. Today should be nsd but maybe ice creams at the park later.

CamdenLurker · 24/08/2021 12:19

Hey everyone!

I haven't managed to get to this thread for a few days but don't want to drop off, I'm going to go back and read through now as I'm having an early lunch break.

Frugal life has just not happened this month and I really need to get myself back on track, school holidays and everything else that goes on during August.

Hope you're all having a good day!

Gensola · 24/08/2021 13:36

em that would enrage me!!!

I have cancelled Dropbox Plus saving £9.99 a month, I was using it for work but I will work out a way to use the cloud for free, cancelled an old "plus" current account I got which came with travel insurance (hollow laugh) and mobile phone insurance etc but I never use it and it costs £13 a month, plus managed to get our energy DD down from £110 to £70 pcm. On a roll!

MeadowHay · 24/08/2021 13:52

Great savings Gen!

I just spent £18.33 in Tesco on groceries. I saved about £3 though through Clubcard offers so that's frugal. Hoping to make pancakes for 'tea' - it's DD's first day in the next room at nursery and she was soo upset at drop-off so thought pancakes instead of dinner would make her smile. I called the nursery not long ago and by the sounds of it she's been upset most the time this morning Sad but is eating, and was playing (by herself Sad) when I called. I feel so bad and guilty about it Sad.

Might do some online shopping later too, need a load more groceries as well as a bunch of baby clothes and all kinds.

ememem84 · 24/08/2021 15:29

meadow don’t feel guilty. I forget how old dd is? 3? So pre school room? Or the 2-3 toddlers room?

Either way it’s an adjustment for her. And it’ll be fine. Nursery (in my opinion) is the best place for kids. Teaches them social skills and all sort of other things.

Saying that ds cried going to pre school this morning. He was adamant he didn’t want to go. I told him to go. Essentially shoved him through the door and legged it. He’s fine.

Spends. £41 fat face on a new dress (I know I know) and £32 next. Jeans for ds and a new hoody for him. But might save hoody for his birthday at the end of sept.

HumbugWhale · 24/08/2021 18:17

Nsd for the first time in ages. Hooray!

Kids have been bloody hard work today though and I am exhausted. They are exhausted too as we went to country park for a long walk and then about 90 mins on the adventure playground.

Mrsmadevans · 24/08/2021 19:48

Well done Gen you have worked a blinder there! 👏
Em l am so sorry about your horrid Fil brushing your DH off on his birthday of all Times , that's very hurtful for him 💐
The Fat face dress sounds lovely 😁
*Humbug" they will sleep for you tonight 😀👏
Meadow AHH l feel for you and your Dd it's so upsetting 💐
Waves @CamdenLurker 😁👋
Life are you a beaver leader? oh well done that is so good of you to give up your time to do it👏😀
NSD for me today thankfully. 😁

HumbugWhale · 24/08/2021 19:56

They better had do Mrs, I am exhausted! They all fell asleep really quickly so finger crossed!

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/08/2021 20:06

Yes I’m a beaver leader

Happierwithouthim · 24/08/2021 20:11

Em that's shocking how archaic the tax system is there. Shock

I did a Tesco online shop last night for delivery tomo night €54.66 including delivery charge.
This morning I bought magnetic eyelashes €20.30
This evening I spent €15 on yellow sticker salmon, pot of mixed salads to go with it, red onion relish as I've been out of it for months & icecream & Rocky road for dd.

Attempted the talk with her & bottled it. Two friends have started periods, she's 11.5 so I'm guessing I should speak to her.

I'm exhausted, lying on my bed, it's too early to expect dc to go to bed.

I still don't have childcare arrangements in place for when they return to school next Tues ShockHmmConfused hopefully it'll all come together.

ememem84 · 24/08/2021 20:28

Nicked off work early. DH and the dc came to the office to pick me up. I didn’t even know they were there but a colleague popped down to go to the post office and came back upstairs with them. Only two of us in at that point. So it was fine. The dc explored the office. And colleague spoiled them with sweets.

Went to pub for dinner. Dc good. But we were on borrowed time.

Mrsmadevans · 24/08/2021 20:29

life that is so good of you to do that for the DC ,well done 👍💐
I am sure they really appreciate you giving up your time and money .l bet you sub the group too ! 👍👏👏👏
Happier have you tried the creche in your local hospital?
Just a thought, Good luck finding good child care 👍
Your shop was very frugal excellent stuff! 👍👏
I expect your Dd will probably know all the background knowledge from school and her friends , she might just need you to say to her l bought you some pads for when you start your periods , where shall we keep them ? Or when you go shopping you could say oh do you want to buy some pads ready for your periods darling?
That is what l did with mine . We talk freely about their periods here though. Even to my DH , if they're a bit moody or in pain or spotty , he is warned not to say anything about the spots or the moods 😁
Poor DH in a house of 3 wimmen lol ! There was a time when the 3 of us were all on at the same time , he was frightened to say a word out of place or he would be savaged 😁😂
Fingers crossed Humbug 🤞💤🤗

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/08/2021 20:49

I got some pads and put them in dd room and the bathroom. I also got her the what’s happening to me book which generated questions. Then a little kit in case it happened at school. She had been showing signs for over a year though. But it had been covered in school too

No i don’t sub the group as it’s run by people as tight as me. Grin so financially stable

Happierwithouthim · 24/08/2021 21:54

I was thinking of that kind of angle too life maybe something pretty to store them in for her room

Mrsmadevans that's not even a thing here. In the country crèches don't open as early as I need to go to work either Hmm

Mrsmadevans · 24/08/2021 22:09

I think you have covered all angles life great work 👍✅👏
Glad you don't have to sub them it's enough you giving up your time as it is ☺️
Omg Happier that's not funny is it! Hope you can find something very soon 💐

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/08/2021 06:47

It all goes in one of her Kallax cubes but she also tried and used a mix of washable too as they are more comfortable and longer lasting for the school day and stable. Also she like her period pants as well.
We started with lilets teen though

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/08/2021 06:47

We got a lillte wash bag for school with a nappy bag, pads, spare pants and some wet wipes in a little waterproof makeup bag
