Finger crossed Life - tube strikes literally bring London to chaos. Gutted about the house, there's just so much messing around with house buying/selling, I think there should be some kind of rule that once you've got to a certain point you have to repay any expenses the buyers have lost if you pull out - plus a fine!

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/08/2021 07:04

What is not frugal is having to pay for 2 lots of failed conveyance and a sale. Before we actually bloody move

ememem84 · 03/08/2021 07:09

life that’s so disappointing.

camden also disappointing

Back to wfh today. Was up at 130 with ds changing beds as he had an accident. Dd awake at 5 crying. But that’s the first time. Gave her some teething powder and another blanket. Wondered whether the weight would help of extra blanket. Seemed to a bit.

Meeting colleague for coffee at lunchtime and have to take a client his passport too. He gave me directions to the house (I knew roughly where is is) and the code for the “first and second gates…” it apparently I have to drive round the “bad corner” so that sounds fun….

Just watched the Olympic show jumping final. And am now watching CBeebies with dd.

ememem84 · 03/08/2021 09:07

anyone know how to get the smell of old milk from a carpet? dd helpfully threw a cup of milk all over her bedroom floor the other day. the room stinks.

we've had windows open for a couple of days, and i've used carpet cleaner on it. but ick that old milk smell.

cleaners are coming on thursday but can't do the carpets this week but will get it booked in asap.

Mrsmadevans · 03/08/2021 09:35

Em is it bicarbonate of soda left on it like talc ? Horrible smell!

Unescorted · 03/08/2021 11:08

Morning... I have been MIA soz. I keep typing out replies and then get distracted by something or other Olympics.

Life that sucks re the house. Our neighbour's landlord died. His beneficiaries sold the house they are in and said they could rent the other.... all sounded good until the contract came through and the rent has now gone up by 30%. The beneficiary now has a house with a sitting tenant who is quite rightly not moving. She is a single mum & her daughter still has a couple of years of school.

Em the cake is amazing.

Bicarb is my go to odour eater

Mrs It is so annoying (insert much stronger language here) when people (insert much stronger language here) think the only thing you do is what they can see.

Camden I am so glad you have managed to finish the house. It is a hard process, especially when you are living on site.

Gen sorry to hear about your FIL. We have been watching tattoo artist of the year - I am not good with needles so much of it has been watched through my fingers.

North well done on the job.

I am on "holiday" for 2 weeks - in reality looking after my parents while my bro goes away for some respite. DD & I are taking sketchbooks and paints.... it is going to be a long 2 weeks.

bicarb. thank you. I'll give that a whirl.

annoyingly ds has also had an "accident' on his carpet. sigh. so today my choice of room to work from was:

  • noisy room - eg downstairs where dh is working;
  • milk stink room - dds bedroom; or
  • pee stink room - ds' room.

i chose dds room as it was the sunniest of the three. however the milk stink.

windows are open and candle is lit. i febreeed the carpet (again) in both rooms.but i can still smell it. will def get bicarb when i go out at lunchtime.

HumbugWhale · 03/08/2021 13:30

White vinegar also hops for wee smells Em. It makes the room smell like a chip shop but it seems to stop quite quickly.

Life that's rubbish, so sorry. Moving house is ridiculously stressful.

ememem84 · 03/08/2021 13:54

an entire pot of bicarb has been flung on the carpet in each room. overkill? probably. but fingers crossed it works.

just met colleague for coffee. she paid this time which was nice.

also dropped clients passport off at his house. to day i have house envy is an understatement. i knew it would be a nice place when he had to give me the code for the front gate, and told me to "follow the driveway" up to the "main house" #howtheotherhalflive

daintydaisies · 03/08/2021 13:55

@lifelongfrugaleer that’s just awful, sorry you’re going through that stress 😢 hope everything gets sorted soon 👍🏼

Kept spend to a minimum on the weekend while we were at a wedding, think around £25ish?
Sold some bits and bobs on eBay today for the total of £132! Really chuffed with that and it will help with next months pay.
Wanted to get a kindle but my SO had one he never uses so kindly gifted it to me - in theory I saved myself about £70 there haha

Lovemaltesers · 03/08/2021 14:36

That’s rubbish life. Such a waste of your money and time. Our house was the third attempt to buy a new house.

Urrgh to the smelly carpets em

Been missing for a while, as after feeling pretty well on the second week of having covid, I went back to work on week 3 and was really unwell again after working one day. Now on week 4 and fingers crossed it has now gone.

DH is working today, but once he gets home we should now all be on holiday for almost four weeks!

Unfrugally spent £170 in IKEA yesterday. But we did just buy the furniture we needed, and no extras. We bought a big set of kallax shelves… I think there’s only two rooms left in the house without a set of these now 😂

We are determined to tidy/clear/sell the clutter in the house this holiday.

I went to move some money into my premium bonds account and found out I won £25! I have no where near the max savings in there so pretty chuffed (got the same amount in May too).

ememem84 · 03/08/2021 15:03

oh i am a huge fan of kallax shelves. i desperately want more in the house but dh isn't keen. (i'll sneak them in somehow).

£131 feel unique. but all of it (aside from the free gift) was for dh fro his birthday. his aftershave is spendy but he's almost out. plus some face stuff for him. i had to spend over £120 to get the free gift (another beauty bag...) and i do have far far too many products, but its free...

should also get 11% cashback on this.

HumbugWhale · 03/08/2021 15:35

Kallax shelves are so useful! We have several. I am considering getting some for the loft to organise the storage a but better.

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/08/2021 16:24

Seen a new house but it’s offers over fml

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/08/2021 18:19

Nsd

Wolfcub · 03/08/2021 18:51

£42 vet
£111 new bedding in the John Lewis sale as my sheets have big unrepairable holes in and the button fastenings on a couple of my duvets are also ripped behind repair
It's been a manic day

Mrsmadevans · 03/08/2021 22:19

Evening everyone, l have been so busy today , sorted MumBob came home lunchtime , then they decided to come for afternoon tea unannounced! They didn't go till 5 . Bob is a good driver despite his age but honestly normally l leave there and come home and l just collapse ready to rev myself up for a repeat performance the next day, so to have a double dose of them was a bit meh tbh although l feel really mean saying that Hmm
NSD yay!
OMG Life this is just torture for you lovely Flowers
Wolf l bet you beddings is gorgeous drool Smile
We are watching Bosch on Prime , it is brilliant if a bit gruesome ! l don't watch those bits Grin
Em huge fan of Kallax too , Dd 2 is currently looking at Pax wardrobes but they are really expensive for her pocket and all OOS! Shock
Hope the bicarb works Smile
Glad you are feeling better Love yay to the holidays Smile
I agree with you @CamdenLurker house buying/selling is a total mess.
Oh God Unescorted thank you for understanding the strain we are under Hmm . That is not really a holiday but it is so good of you to help out your DB like this, l wish we had the same respite , l am sure your DB, really appreciates you doing this Flowers
Daisy that is a win win in my book Grin
Humbug l did use white vinegar once to clean up cats wee but the vinegar smelled worse than the cats wee Grin

ememem84 · 04/08/2021 06:55

Productive morning so far. Been up since 530. Thanks dd. But she went back to sleep until about 20 Mins ago.

I’ve thrown a wash on and have started the oven on it’s cleaning setting. So that’s out of action until about lunchtime.

Was going to go for a run but dd just woke up so am now watching CBeebies with her. Will run later.

HumbugWhale · 04/08/2021 07:25

You're having a more productive morning than me so far Em. All I have managed to do is read the Olympics news from overnight, wash my hair and drink a brew. Should really get dressed and go and organise the dcs. Dh was giving them breakfast last I heard.

Turning up unannounced is a bit unfair on you Mrs. You are amazing with how much you do for them.

ememem84 · 04/08/2021 07:32

Am also decluttering my inbox. Deleting old emails etc. Attempting a whole house declutter but not all in one go. Little at a time.

Today I have a video call at 930 (sigh) and then a full
Day of work planned. If I can get my work inbox down to under 50 emails today I’ll be happy. Currently it’s at 97. 😮😭

mrs I’d be so mad with the just popping in unannounced.

ememem84 · 04/08/2021 07:34

Set up a SO to transfer the difference for ds’ nursery fees from September to a savings account. We get 24 free hours for him. Which will save us £301 a month. Yippee.

And I think dds fees have gone down a bit now she’s 2. Yay.

Unescorted · 04/08/2021 07:45

Bloody hell fire em you are cooking with gas there. I have had a brew and looked in the dishwasher to check if it needs running so one of the kids doesn't have an entirely lazy day.

Mrs I would have picked up my car keys and done a runner. It is annoying me that my DM has rung me 4 times to remind me that she needs taking to an appointment. She has forgotten that my DB is yet to go on his holiday. It is going to be a long 2 weeks.

OP posts:
ememem84 · 04/08/2021 11:15

ds is home today. currently i've set him up on the floor in dds room with some colourings.

dh took him to pre-school earlier and when they got out the car he threw up - so obviously didnt go in.

annoyingly both dh and i have to work today, so were taking it in turns to watch him.

he seems fine in himself now (aside from earlier sick) but just keeping him on bland food and water today. just to be safe.

Lovemaltesers · 04/08/2021 11:56

Oh wow mrs, I’m really not sure if I could have done a good job with them just turning up.

Just cut ‘D’mums grass. Am quite cross about this as I made it clear she needs to organise and pay someone to do this for her. She did get a kind mug acquaintance to do it for her once, but she gave him tins of food to say thank you Hmm not sure why he hadn’t offered again! 😂

Just off to visit Ddad at his home, first time in a month.

northender · 04/08/2021 20:49

Busy week so far. I've been accepted onto the MSc course which is part of the new role, just need to get organised now & be study ready!
Have ordered 2 new sport bras & gone for non wired ones this time as the life of the previous ones have been shortened by the wires popping through. £70
