We are in a holiday let and the fridge (the only fridge) is in the bathroom about 3 feet opposite the loo. I am horrified - AIBU?! DH thinks I’m being U as does my best mate

northender · 04/08/2021 22:13

I'm with you Gen not U at all, yuk!

Mrsmadevans · 04/08/2021 22:19

Aw thank you all for understanding, it was just the straw that broke this camels back tbh Hmm
It's been hectic today , had to go up there and then go to Cardiff to do Dd2 garden & shopping. Did a shop in Farmfoods 15 & Lidl 20 , they are quite good prices in there , l don't really like shopping in there it's a bit Higgledy Piggledy Smile
Gen l wouldn't like that either , it's not you , your Dh is probably trying to reassure you . Try to put it behind you and enjoy the break lovely .
North that is simply wonderful news Congratulations! Star
OH God Love no wonder the chap didn't help again Sad still it's too much for you to do that as well as everything else you do . I hope you had a lovely visit with your Dad Flowers
Em l hope your Ds is much better, it's hard enough doing everything when they are well Flowers
Humbug thank you that is so kind of you Smile
On another note , it's been lovely weather here , managed to get home from Cardiff before the traffic so we sat and watched another episode of Bosch , if you haven't seen it l recommend it Smile
Better get to bed, another day another dollar Grin

Wolfcub · 05/08/2021 08:23

It's only 5th august, how can there be so much month left at the end of the money. Larger mortgage payment is definitely making a dint here. Need to have a think about getting my arse back on the frugal wagon in other areas. Food shopping costs are appalling at the moment

CamdenLurker · 05/08/2021 08:36

Yesterday I took both dd's to London, they wanted to go shopping so we stopped at Westfield, both used their own money to buy stuff, I paid for lunch at Tortilla, a bit annoying as none of us ate much, that was £17 plus i made them get drinks in the pound shop across the road £2.

We then caught the tube to Tottenham Court Road, walked to China town and picked up some Taiyaki, £11.

We had tickets for the matinee show of Jamie, which I was pleased about as we were home by 7pm.

Only spent £30, which is very little for a whole day out with dd's.

Meeting a friend for lunch today, so looking forward to that!

Congrats North - sounds like you'll be busy with the new job and the course!

Gen - that's gross, keeping food in the bathroom Envy

Love - what is it with old people and tins? FIL literally thinks that's the only way to eat, and often turns down a home cooked meal in favour of opening a load of tins Hmm

Mrs - I don't know how you find the time, you must be permanently running around, hope you manage to get a bit of a rest over the weekend.

MeadowHay · 05/08/2021 08:37

Congrats North!

Wtf Gen?! So weird!!

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday all NSDs for me. Today won't be though.

Sliced my finger open on Tuesday PM cutting a tomato of all things. It bled for over an hour and my blood pressure was low all all the rest of the day so I was all woozy. Now to attempt a washing my hair without getting the steri-strips wet...am going to double glove it and try to avoid using that hand and hope for the best...

CamdenLurker · 05/08/2021 08:40

Wolf - absolutely agree about food costs, I try to buy as little meat as possible and meal plan so that I'm using what we have and I'm still spend over £100 a week on the bare minimum. That doesn't include dd's veggie stuff that I can't get in Aldi, we eat pasta and jacket potatoes a lot!

Mrsmadevans · 05/08/2021 09:29

Trigger warning if you haven't had your breakfast or even if you have l can't stop thinking about it Gen .Am just thinking about the Faecal/urine spray if the lid wasn't down. Omg that really is vile 🤮🤮🤮

Mrsmadevans · 05/08/2021 09:30

Oh God Meadow that's unlucky, hope you feel much better now lovely 💐

Mrsmadevans · 05/08/2021 09:36

@CamdenLurker l am so lucky my Dh does everything he's an absolute darling I could not manage without him . Sounds like you had a lovely day
yesterday 🤗
Talking about older people , my DH cooks MumBob fresh veg in a cooked meal usually gravy everyday . They had gammon ham , sweetheart cabbage, carrots, new pots and parsley sauce. They went to the chip shop , bought chips , went home and had the gammon ham with the chips and threw the rest of the dinner away. Honestly I could have cried . It was so ungrateful and such a waste of food 🙄

Mrsmadevans · 05/08/2021 09:39

Wolf food costs have gone through the roof here. I buy the sticker meat when l can . Then put it in the freezer . Yesterday l had sticker meat for 30percent off and the date was the 5th Of August so it's worth looking 🤗

CamdenLurker · 05/08/2021 09:44

Mrs - FIL does this kind of thing all the time, on Monday dh cooked baked potatoes, there wasn't enough for everyone so he didn't have one, on Tuesday morning I went outside and FIL had thrown his out of the window 'for the fox' apparently. It makes me so mad, it's so inconsiderate and ungrateful. I hope I'm never like that!

Even better back in December last year FIL was ill, he said that the food I had cooked made him feel Sick and that it gave him a chill Hmm,I said fine he can sort himself out in future, turns out he actually had Covid - which he caught when he repeatedly took himself to A&E for mysterious health complaints that after various investigations were just digestive issues from over indulging in junk.

I am so sorry you are having this too @CamdenLurker 💐. it's really not nice of them , in fact it's rude. I don't think for a minute we will be like that , it's just not in us .
HumbugWhale · 05/08/2021 10:09

Well done North!

I'm with you on the fridge/toilet Gen although I suppose at least the fridge door stays shut all the time.

Hope you are ok Meadow.

Today should be nsd. Kids have gone a bit feral. This is what happens if we have a bit if a lazy morning instead of getting up and out. I'm a bit exhausted from outings this week though!

SingToTheSky · 05/08/2021 10:45

I just had to scroll back up to check I’d not misunderstood… EUWWWWW gen! I am not a super clean/tidy person or anything but that goes way beyond what most people could stomach surely?!🤢

FIL sounds hard work camden :( and sorry about the food waste mrs :(

I have far too many spends to report lately. Trying to have a nice fun summer. Tutoring is going brilliantly though, I’ve got a few new pupils and I’m just loving it.

Applying for another job in the next couple of weeks - very similar to the one I almost got, different charity. So hoping I am in with a shot although I think last time I was basically guaranteed an interview as I already volunteered for that charity. So this time I need to take more care with my covering letter/CV.

Gensola · 05/08/2021 11:30

sing literally your knees are practically touching the fridge door when you sit down on the loo! Crazy.
Weather is terrible, storms all week. We found a cute place for brunch today which has cheered me up.

HumbugWhale · 05/08/2021 12:04

Who on earth thought that was a good idea Gen?! I've seen washing machines in bathrooms which in many ways is more logical than having them in the kitchen, but the fridge?!

Pleased your tutoring is going so well Sing.

MeadowHay · 05/08/2021 14:05

I would be so freaked out by that too Gen!

Spends: £4.50ish Tesco on groceries and £3.50ish Card Factory on gift bag and confetti. We are going away tomorrow to stay with friends and then attending a mutual friend's wedding next week. Can't wait to get away, fed up of work atm it's boring and we are so under staffed even I who doesn't care about my work has been feeling a bit stressed about it the last few weeks. Just the psychological impact of seeing 160 emails in your inbox and that kind of thing I guess.

Mrsmadevans · 05/08/2021 16:39

Meadow that sounds lovely , have a great time Flowers
Sing great stuff re your tutoring well done ! Wishing you the best of luck with the applying for a new job too Star
Humbug we used to get more and more relaxed as the holidays went on Grin
Gen we have had terrible weather here today and apparently it is going to be like this for the next 5 days Hmm I was hanging washing out this morning stupid me and it felt quite Autumnal , you know that little hint of damp in the air & a little bit colder, Harvest Festival & Halloween beckon Grin

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/08/2021 19:01

Fridge in bathroom bleurgh

Bornlazy · 05/08/2021 21:33

Oops fell off the thread. Just caught up now.

Mrs I was a little surprised to hear that mumbob are capable of getting in the car and driving places. You do so much for them maybe they could do a little more for themselves if you weren't so kind and doing it all for them. I'd be furious if I'd made them food only for them to throw it out and the go to the chip shop.

Gen surely the fridge in the toilet wouldn't pass any kind of rental inspections. That is just grim, grim, grim.

Lots of spends here too although hopefully less than last month. Three birthdays in the last week.

Wolfcub · 06/08/2021 06:57

Got to do lots of furniture moving today ready for full house window refit next week. I am not looking forward to it as my back is already killing me. Started by emptying ds's minging wash basket EnvyEnvyEnvyConfused(not envy).

Unescorted · 06/08/2021 07:06

Sing you can do this.... you know what is involved, you have the experience.

GROSS Gen Why would anyone think it a good idea. it is wrong on so many levels.

Wolf Food is going up. I used to think a £100 Aldi shop was huge (I used to budget £240 pm in the oh fuck we have no money days) - Now it is a weekly shop.

Camden your FiL is an arse. Which makes me doubly glad that you had a lovely day out with the kids.

Mrs I am in awe of you... I did my first day of parent sitting yesterday. I am exhausted. The house is so dirty. I spent 8 hours solidly cleaning it & have only managed the downstairs loo, entry porch and almost finished the kitchen. The fridge alone took over an hour. There was chicken with a BB date of April, open uncooked chicken next to cooked meat, cheese and vegetables, items with Use Bys in 2019 / 20 (cream, cheese, fish, ham). The inside of it had mould everywhere. How they haven't died from food poisoning I don't know. I am worried about my brother - he is a chef and really should know better. I hope he isn't spiraling b/c I would struggle with work / my family/ DParents and DBro long term. I might see if we can get a tidier / cleaner who wouldn't mind doing the washing/ fridges / putting crap away as well as cleaning.

The kids & dh were absolute poppets when they turned up for dinner. Chit chatting and being happy. Even DDad said he might manage getting out of bed & come downstairs today. It makes such a difference to the mood of the house.

wolf what is it about teen boys.... they have certain aroma. I love mine and he is fastidious about his personal hygiene, but his room is a cess pit.

£20 pub last night with dfriend. First time in a while we’ve been out just us two. Usually it’s us plus 4 kids. So nice.

Off to gym now. Two huge glasses of rose last night and I’m feeling a bit wonky.
