Welcome Martha

Been to the beach with kids and ponies. Freezing.

SnugglySnerd · 11/04/2021 13:49

Yes Martha I have very much enjoyed coming home to dinner and and cup of tea ready! Much better than rushing through the door and trying to get something on the table in 20 mins before the dcs eat the furniture Grin

Unescorted · 11/04/2021 14:13

martha yes she is the future Turner Prize winner according to her very biased mother

My mum back in the day used to batch cook and freeze things in tins
of lasagne, chicken cannelloni , hot pots, stews etc & then set the oven on a timer so they were ready for when we got home. I am not that organised so pasta features a lot.

northender · 11/04/2021 15:03

Ooh definitely up for a Bridgewater meet up!
Really interesting chat about cooking. I definitely think that the covid situation has affected how we all manage things. The dc have been at home much than they would have been so have got through much more food (and they have been cooking & baking more). I've tried to shop just once a week, but it is difficult. As well as batch cooking and freezing some, I like to save a portion of tea for the next day's lunch.

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/04/2021 15:14

Wonder how far bridewater is for me.. Hmmm

I used to batch cook but hate reheated food really. I have mash and spaghetti bol in the freezer though. Frozen Prechoped veg here to speed things up

Life I'd have said 3 hours by road.

It is brilliant born if you have any questions feel free to ask☺️

I’ll be back later to catch up with everyone else, currently in the middle of my assignment

ememem84 · 11/04/2021 15:43

£16 Iceland.

Made cheesy pasta bake for late lunch. Ice creams in the garden for pudding.

Spent the morning catching up with friends and having new baby snuggles. They are the best!

Now am about to embark on fruit cake making. And some pottering/tidying.

SnugglySnerd · 11/04/2021 17:00

I totally agree about shopping habits North. Also reluctance to visit more than one supermarket has meant I've been using Sainsbury's/Tesco rather than Aldi/Lidl as I know they will have everything. Over the last few weeks I have been alternating between Lidl to stock up on basics and especially nuts which are vastly cheaper there, then Sainsbury's or Tesco the following week for posher ingredients etc. This has worked well and the cheaper shops offset the more expensive ones a bit.

My pizza oven is ordered. [squeeee squeeee] - I may be lost down a rabbit hole of You Tube pizza videos.

DS is vacuuming without being asked - I am worried. It would be quicker if he wasn't trying to watch something on his phone at the same time. having said that it is quicker than it not being done.

Snuggly we have been doing the same with the supermarkets. I am not looking forward to going into town, but I need an eye test and the one in Manc has the eye spot calibrations so they can easily check if they are growing. It was convenient when I worked in town. Now it is a faff.

Friday NSD. Saturday petrol 30 today NSD. Weird times with sad
music everywhere. Feel sorry for the queen but a 99 year old dying isn't tragic

lifelongfrugaleer · 11/04/2021 19:11

Hmm bit far for a day

£43 fuel, £13 refund, £4 mcd after beach,

Back to work blues here and school.

I've still been going to multiple supermarket but alternative weeks

Mrsmadevans · 11/04/2021 20:34

DH cooked us the 2.50 leg if lamb from Aldi yesterday with broccoli, carrots , boiled pots Yorkshire mint sauce & gravy . It was delicious 😋😋
NSD today yay about time ! Looking forward to LOD at 9 , have already watched the 3 rd episode again today lol as prep!
Hope everyone is ok & had a lovely Sunday 🤗

ememem84 · 11/04/2021 21:09

unescorted Jamie Oliver’s pizza dough is the best we’ve made.

I’ve got pizza down to a fine art now.

We make one batch of the dough (it makes around 12 bases) and freeze.

Tomato purée with a smidge of oil plus oregano and black pepper (if you toast whole peppercorns in a dry pan for a bit then crush they take on a new dimension of flavour!).

Then mozzarella. We only use the stuff in water as it’s the best at melting.

I need a pizza peel so we can get our pizza oven for bbq goinf again. But my pizza in the oven are yum. Thin. Crispy. Yummo.

Didn’t make cake in the end as had no eggs. Sigh. But will get tomorrow.

How good was LOD Mrs?? I am desperate to know whose DNA it is!

Mrsmadevans · 11/04/2021 23:02

@SnugglySnerd

How good was LOD Mrs?? I am desperate to know whose DNA it is!
Snuggly it was superb! I loved it ! I will prob watch it again next week before the next epi Grin Pizza sounds gorgeous Em , coincidentally JO second daughter was 17 last Friday , doesn't seem 2 mins that JO was 17!
SingToTheSky · 11/04/2021 23:35

That was so good. Have been on the LOD thread this year and loving all the speculation :o

ememem84 · 12/04/2021 06:27

mrs I’m a huge fan of JO’s. A lot of the recipes are just so yum!!!

SnugglySnerd · 12/04/2021 07:16

I'm a huge JO fan too. I have so many of his books. His recipes are pretty much foolproof. I remember watching the first series in my house share at uni, he taught us all to cook really. Delia for my generation!

Just got a really good price for something on Ebay , it finished last night but I only just remembered to check!

ememem84 · 12/04/2021 08:03

Ministry of food was a game changer for me.

Been for a run.

maddenlightfoot · 12/04/2021 08:54

Em I love Ministry of Food! It's definitely one I come back to time and again. Also love Save with Jamie and Jamie's America.

I'm starting to get to grips with YNAB. I haven't put any transactions in yet but I'm trying to think through every spending category and future plan. It's feeling very user friendly so far.

Money jobs for today - chase up new council tax and water charge. I filled out the moving house details in plenty of time but haven't heard from either of these.

Gensola · 12/04/2021 09:06

DCat has done a poo sick and wee combo on most of the house overnight - protest because we had to shut him in when he usually comes and goes as he pleases. With hindsight we should have shut him in the kitchen. Sigh.
Looking forward to a few days in Dorset but currently feeling very nauseated which is cramping my excitement slightly - not sure whether to blame IVF drugs or the cat’s delightful display!
Got a new cardigan in sainsburys £20.

SnugglySnerd · 12/04/2021 10:49

Oh no, Gen! Cat sick is horrible.

Lovemaltesers · 12/04/2021 11:10

Sad ewww gen . Enjoy your trip, you’ll be in my area

£177 at the opticians. This was with the cost being half price 😬
I’m due a few refunds this week so hopefully they will cover this. I couldn’t remember my PIN as rarely use it nowadays so need to request a new one.

MeadowHay · 12/04/2021 13:04

Hi everyone, I might try to join in again - but I'm aware I've said that absolutely tons of times in the past and posted about 3 times Grin.

Today spent about £25 on a fancy woollen tie for DH as his anniversary present. I doubt it will actually come in time but I don't think he's got me anything yet anyway. I will have to let him off though because he's being an absolute super star atm, I'm pregnant with no.2 and have hyperemesis again so he's doing virtually everything on top of his FT job, poor love. I have hardly been spending any money as I have barely left the house in the last two months of being ill Envy that face is not envy...

Hope the cat is ok!

Cooking chat is nice, again I've barely been able to cook anything for ages with my sickness and I'm actually missing it, both the cooking and the eating what I've cooked hah.
