DD has had melon balls and Easter egg for breakfast and is now watching a chipmunks movie. Horrible squeaky voices!

Wolfcub · 04/04/2021 11:43

Welcome MandUs

Tayto sounds like you have a lovely day planned

My bird is in the oven, I'm having a very easy day of it with some M&S pre-prepared stuff courtesy of an ocAdo deal and some home made so we will have chicken, roast parsnips and roast potatoes, stuffing, mashed neep and carrot and yorkie puds. With lemon tart to follow.

Ds's filthy rugby stuff is in the wash and I've hung some pictures up and put the sofa bed out ready for me to dismantle the big bed and move into the office again tomorrow to wait for carpet fitting mid week.

MandUs come on in.

The way I do a budget is write all the expenses down as an annual figure to get a grand total, take the net annual income, minus one from the other, divide the remainder by 12 and that's your monthly spare cash.

I take it out as cash to prevent over spending, once my purse is empty that's it until next month. You ignore what's in the bank because it's already been budgeted for, if an expense isn't on your budget list it has to come out of the spare cash.

When you do the initial sum and there's no spare cash but a minus figure instead, that's when you have to start questioning what you consider to be essential and be a bit more ruthless.

Happy Easter everyone Easter Smile As usual I'm cleaning, it being Sunday. Theoretically anyway, I'm actually on the sofa still in my pyjamas. So I'd best get on with it. I have a Galaxy egg with truffles.

Unescorted · 04/04/2021 13:49

Happy Easter everyone.

Welcome MandUs I second what Amber says - a big spreadsheet with everything on to work out the essentials, the lovely to have and the frittering.

Em the snooping is outrageous.

Gen the cooking classes look great. I am going to sign up for the Iranian or Syrian ones... or maybe both.

I have done a huge stint in the Foodbank this morning and then popped in to see M&D - off for a walk up a hill and then Boat race for later.

SnugglySnerd · 04/04/2021 15:17

Happy Easter all! Also welcome to MandUs.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day and enjoying the sunshine!

shipsandgiggles · 04/04/2021 17:54

Hi would I be able to join? We’re really lucky as we don’t have to pay a mortgage as we live on a boat and brought it outright but our outgoings have increased massively since coming off Mat leave and sending 2 DC’s to nursery so we need to manage our spending a bit more. I’m awful at impulse buying so I really need to cut back on that

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/04/2021 18:05

Hi ships and meandus

On a boat? Ooh what kind? Moored I take it

shipsandgiggles · 04/04/2021 18:14

SnugglySnerd · 04/04/2021 20:22

Welcome ships!

Had a lovely afternoon in the garden - a bit of weeding etc and a bit of sitting with a cuppa. The dcs helped with some jobs then played, they made up an assault course! Dh mowed the lawn. The sun has shone and 2 loads of washing have dried on the line. Much chocolate has been consumed!

Waiting for LOD now...

SingToTheSky · 04/04/2021 20:48

Very non-eastery day today. We had family round to the garden yesterday so today was just egg hunt and then normal Sunday really.

Bit of retail therapy - spent Cagletini’s easter money on some play food and multilink cubes, and some crafty/home ed stuff to do with the big two. And some chocolate for me as I wait for the sales for mine :o

Hey ships :o

SingToTheSky · 04/04/2021 20:49

Oh crumbs yes LOD! YAY!

Unescorted · 04/04/2021 21:19

Ships welcome. We thought of a narrow boat, but had a storage problem with the bike storage.

gen I love Persian and Armenian food. I might see you on the Syrian one.

Unescorted · 04/04/2021 21:21

I forgot the bird list - Curlew, Red Kite, Grey Tit and a little unidentified speedy thing that was having a whirl in the wind.

maddenlightfoot · 04/04/2021 21:49

We can't watch LoD until tomorrow now as we overran watching The Terror on iPlayer presuming we could start LoD anytime but it's not available yet 🤦‍♀️

SnugglySnerd · 04/04/2021 22:03

@Unescorted

I forgot the bird list - Curlew, Red Kite, Grey Tit and a little unidentified speedy thing that was having a whirl in the wind.
Were those all local to you? I haven't managed to add anything new for about 2 weeks.

LoD didn't disappoint but no spoilers!

Taytocrisps · 04/04/2021 23:18

Sooo full! I couldn't manage dessert (strawberries and cream) although I nibbled on a few strawberries five minutes ago. Dinner was fab and I'm working my way through my first Easter egg. I'm going to have lamb pittas with the leftover lamb tomorrow. DD is off to Ex's house for the week tomorrow morning.

During/after dinner we watched a double episode of 'Modern Family' (the wedding episodes) and then an episode of 'Grey's Anatomy'. Then I tackled the dishwasher and the washing up. Now I'm chilling for a bit before bed.

Taytocrisps · 04/04/2021 23:18

We need an update from em

AmberItsACertainty · 05/04/2021 00:08

Welcome ships

Snuggly your garden day sounds relaxing

Tayto perhaps Em is busy laying a new patio doing some gardening. At midnight. Like you do. Wouldn't blame her Easter Grin

Enjoying the lovely sunshine today, although it's quite chilly still here. Hanging out my washing, listening to the birds and trying to ignore Moaning Minnie next door. Walked down by the river this evening, some bird got angry and told us to do one when we walked underneath the tree it was perched in. Saw two mallards sleeping on the rooftop opposite home. Jackdaws in our trees. Popped into the shop for lemon cake too £3

SnugglySnerd · 05/04/2021 06:16

Amber Grin

Unescorted · 05/04/2021 06:32

Snuggly yes they are all local this week. We get a lot of returners at this time of year as they nest on the moorland in the summer.

Grin Amber.

Today is a long walk - 18 miles planned. I am packing plenty of cake and sandwiches.

ememem84 · 05/04/2021 08:01

Morning!

Yesterday’s update. Food was ace. The Fil and his gf got all shirty about the choice of food:

Ras al hanut lamb
Bailalh (lemoney parsley chickpeas)
Basmati and wild rice salad (with raisins chickpeas and crispy fried onions)
Honey carrots
Humous
Flatbreads
Couscous
And chocolate cake for dessert.

Lots of wine.

Fil refused to talk to me. Dm asked the gf whether his ears/hearing was on as I’d asked him things but he hadn’t answered. (She was on her best most passive aggressive form). She said that Fil doesn’t talk to people he doesn’t like.

Dm told her they were both rude. They didn’t bring anything with them - not that I expect gifts but isn’t it the done thing to bring something if you are invited for food? Not even Easter eggs for the kids.

The choice of beers wasn’t sufficient. Neither was the wine.

Dh is upset and will be having words today.

Lovemaltesers · 05/04/2021 08:14

😡 kind of speechless here em

I think we’ve been paid 13p as a dividend from our one share in a water company 😆 The alternative was £20 off a bill instead of the share.
