They are what my DDS call emotional vampires 😜🦇🧛‍♀️🧛‍♂️
My Mum is one too 🙄
No strike that, most of my family are 😂

Wolfcub · 03/04/2021 16:15

Em remember you are making a dinner of things you like, Fil is going to be mawky whatever you do and you know that, try to focus on enjoying cooking it because it's what you want to cook and what you will enjoy eating

Yep. Emotional vampires is right. They’ll complain to our faces. Then badmouth and laugh behind our backs.

I’ve told dh that I can’t do it. Trouble is the kids are excited about seeing them. They’ll learn.

Fil will laugh because the lambs going on the bbq (bbqs are for burgers and sausages / who do we think we are/bbqs are for the summer not for cold days)

Fil will turn his nose up at “forrin” food (although having read and reread the ingredients list the only thing “forrin” is ras al hanut and cumin. Everything else is “normal” just used in a different way etc.

Fil is a rude twat. His gf is just as bad. I mostly make them dhs problem. And he deals with them.

Tonight we have to hide anything snoop worthy (gf is a snooper so we hide all post remove the calender because she reads that and phones go up high so she can’t reach them - she’s one to read messages when they come through).

Dh is faffing about the garden. He needs to finish the raised bed as Fil will tell him he’s useless for not being able to get it finished. I’ve said just to leave it and tell Fil it isn’t done because he just hasn’t had the time. Fil is disappointed because dh didn’t work with him and instead took on a soft boys job (accountant - Fil was a roofer) dh said he went into accountancy purely for the money.

AmberItsACertainty · 03/04/2021 16:22

North hope you had a good day at the photography exhibition.

Happier well done for sticking to Lent for as long as you did. You shouldn't feel bad about it. We all need a treat some times.

Wolf how lovely to have a farmer's market and eat fresh food. That feels very hopeful and spring-like, in contrast to all the Brexit and covid stuff I'm hearing lately. Enjoy your dinner later.

Unescorted glad your haircut turned out ok. Littering is awful at the moment, we get a lot of fly tipping round here.

Mrs that's a sorry looking cake. I'd have eaten it though, I've had them come out like that and they usually still taste fine, just a bit 'solid' in texture. I'm sure the birds will enjoy it anyway. Better luck with the next one!

Em tomorrow's lunch sounds so stressful.

I've been doing life admin all afternoon. NSD. Went for a short walk. I haven't made a cake in ages.

SnugglySnerd · 03/04/2021 16:23

That is so rude of her Em!

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/04/2021 16:26

What ever you make or do is never going to be good enough em. Do it for you and ignore the ignorant fuckers.
Lunch will be lovely and proper people will love it

AmberItsACertainty · 03/04/2021 16:34

Mrs surrounded by emotional vampires must feel like such hard work. I can't bear people like that.

Em the snooping is beyond words 😳. My favourite response to people complaining to me is asking if they don't have any friends they can bitch about this to, because I'm not interested.

ememem84 · 03/04/2021 16:40

Dh doesn’t like how she’s inserted herself into his past - so telling him how she remembers the holidays they went on when he was a kid. She didn’t go on them. But she’ll act like she did.

I have no patience for it.

It’s funny though because she’s 8 years younger than Dm. But looks about 10 years older. She hates this and thought Dm was the same age as her. The annnoyance when she found out.

She’s a drinker and a smoker though.

Lovemaltesers · 03/04/2021 17:05

mrs that cake attempt is pretty similar to what I’d produce if I baked a cake 😁

Enjoy the food em, I’m hoping you’ll post a picture as I bet it will be yum 😋

Sadly, most of us don’t get to choose our family!

We’re having roast lamb tomorrow

I’ve moved a bit of money to my LISA before the end of the tax year. Need to move to a new one in the next tax year for a minimally better interest rate

maddenlightfoot · 03/04/2021 18:09

So much for daily posting and keeping up with the thread.... I have a good excuse though - I had a quite spectacular fall from my bike yesterday and have been nursing injuries ever since. Also not very frugal as I've sent dh to the shops (always £££) and have felt rather sorry for myself so needed all the treats!

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/04/2021 19:02

Ouch Madden. Definitely need treats then

£12 Chinese, Sainsbury's coming Monday £73 ish. £339 phone for DD but her money and she is selling her current phone. £3.50 ice cream at the park. £400 for dh phone and cover

Sheesh spending day

maddenlightfoot · 03/04/2021 20:08

We have Chinese on the way life!

lifelongfrugaleer · 03/04/2021 20:49

Yeah

AmberItsACertainty · 03/04/2021 23:35

Wishing you a speedy recovery Madden

AmberItsACertainty · 03/04/2021 23:36

Oops posted too soon. I sold something tonight so I'm £5 up today

northender · 04/04/2021 06:57

Ouch, Madden! Hope you enjoyed your takeaway.
Yesterday was good. Had a wander round the outdoor photography thing. It is really good & hope lots of people get to see it. There was a set of photos from 14 different people (about 4 or 5 each) about personal aspects of pandemic life & it was brilliant, made me feel very emotional. Things like that make you realise how much it has affected all aspects of our lives.
Grocery shop £150, car parking £2
Dd made JO hot cross buns in competition with my Mary Berry version & has probably beaten me!
Dh did some digging in the garden so we're off to the garden centre today to get plants to start filling our very blank canvas.
Dd has rugby again today, ds is going round to his friend's for another garden social. They are lucky, they have a very close group of 6 so it's perfect for current rules.
Dd is back to work at the rugby club next weekend getting ready for reopening. Interesting, she is coming to terms with earning way less than her furlough pay. Her Autumn/winter furlough was high as it was based on a period when she did some full time work in summer hols.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/04/2021 07:52

Dunno about this morning but the afternoon is national Trust for a walk

ememem84 · 04/04/2021 08:10

Dd has successfully eaten 7 small Easter eggs (cream egg sized) for breakfast.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/04/2021 08:12

Well done dd

Wolfcub · 04/04/2021 08:25

Morning all. Happy Easter. We also have rugby this morning, will do roast chicken for lunch and then go and see dparents for eggs and a short walk round their village this afternoon

Gensola · 04/04/2021 08:29

Happy Easter to those who celebrate! DH was very nice and got me lovely flowers instead of chocolates as I am trying to lose weight and had asked for no chocs.
We are having a nice lunch from local pub though, and a walk in the sun.
I’ve booked DH some zoom cookery classes for his birthday, they’re priced per household so we will do them together. They’re run by a charity called migrateful, who link up refugees and migrants with a kitchen so they can earn money by teaching to cook some dishes from their country and telling their story. I’m excited for them - three this week!

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/04/2021 09:27

That's sounds fab gen

Happy Easter.
Usual Sunday here except chocolate for breakfast

maddenlightfoot · 04/04/2021 09:43

Gen and north I like the sound of the photography exhibition and the cookery classes! I hope there are many more green shoots of new ways of doing things.

Happy Easter everyone! I love Easter, love spring, love chocolate and roast lamb 😋

Taytocrisps · 04/04/2021 09:50

Happy Easter to all you lovely frugaleers Easter Smile.

I enjoyed some gorgeous sunshine sitting out in the back garden yesterday. Although I need to do some work out there. I tried mowing the lawn during the week but the lawnmower died on me - there was smoke coming out of it Easter Shock! I've ordered a new one from Woodies. My patio is ancient (Ex and my BIL laid it) and there are lots of weeds sprouting up in the cracks between the paving slabs. If I ever have a lotto win, I'm going to pave the entire back garden. The 'lawn' is about 90% moss. I need to dig out the soil and dead plants in my containers and plant some new summer plants. I'll leave it until June though, in case we get some late frosts. And there are signs that some of last year's plants are slowly coming back to life. By May I'll have a fair idea of what's likely to survive and what's not. And I can have a look around the garden centre and get some ideas.

Having a roast dinner today - half leg of lamb, garlic potatoes, carrots and asparagus with brie and breadcrumbs. And strawberries and cream for dessert. And lots of Easter egg. Missing my Dad though - he usually spends Easter with me. He's only had his first vaccination and the restrictions don't allow for any households mixing, even in gardens. Although I suspect some people will take advantage of this lovely weather and meet up in gardens anyway.

madden sorry to hear about your fall. Rest up.

north the outdoor photography exhibition sounds good.

Gen those cookery classes are a great idea - allowing refugees and migrants to share their culture and earn some money in the process.

em you'll have to sneak off to the loo every five minutes and give us updates.

MandUs · 04/04/2021 11:14

Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if it's still ok to join your inspiring group. I'm planning to overhaul the family finances completely. There's me, DP, and 2 DC. We are lucky in the sense that we have a very healthy family income but that has led to us being fairly plan free and not on top of things. We had a big change of circumstance in the sense that my ex, the DCs' dad died recently so we need to re-plan (or actually plan in the first place) our lives financially but also logistically.

I'm planning to cancel all unused subscriptions etc and get on top of the family food budget. So far we've not had one. I need to make plans for savings etc. Any tips are welcome.

Hope you're all having a lovely Easter!
