Fluffy I think even you may have gone too frugal on this one Grin

Cagliostro · 01/12/2018 09:38

Spendy as fuck yesterday. We ordered our PS4. I am an excited child. We haven’t bought a console since our Wii in 2007 :o which we finally got rid of just before we moved house with the promise that our main Christmas present would be a new one. Didn’t go for any bundles as none of the games were ones we wanted. But they had a deal separately for the two I wanted (Spyro and Crash trilogies!). Went via quidco (slightly higher rate than TCB) and signed up to the reward point thing on Game.

Snotty wheezy baby. Gonna be a long day.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 01/12/2018 09:38

fluffy 😂

wolf our Christmas tree and decorations are in the loft and I'm already dreading getting them down, getting things out of the loft is one of the only times I miss having a man 😉

seacow the cookie receipe was one we googled, will see if I can find it. ... dd said they went really fast at her club!!

Plan today is to take dd riding and then do very little this afternoon 😆 we are both full of colds.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/12/2018 10:25

Aldi say to return anything your not happy with though.

CurlsandCurves · 01/12/2018 10:49

Glad my afternoon gave you all a chuckle!

Bit the bullet yesterday and got DS1’s laptop. FIL is saving us £35 by setting it all up for us instead of paying the shop to do it. And DB works in IT and can get us a Microsoft Office licence for free.

I was hoping to have some money left over at the end of the month, but DS1 desperately needed a new mattress, there are springs poking out the side of his, so bought a new one yesterday. We all could do with new pillows etc so when my folks ask what DH and I would like for Christmas I’m going to ask for Dunelm vouchers.

Plan today is tackle the ironing pile and hopefully go for a walk if the rain stops. DS2 wants to go to a skate park with his friend too.

Morning all. Having a nice laze in bed with a cuppa after a hectic few days at work. The Late Late Toy Show kicked off the Christmas season last night. For those of you who aren't familiar with it, the Late Late Show is a live chat show (a bit like the Graham Norton show except with less glitzy celebrities and a higher concentration of Irish celebrities). It's been running since the 60s. Once a year (around the end of November or early December) they have a show especially for children. They have children giving demonstrations of different toys interspersed with children or teenagers giving musical or dance performances. It's really magical and the fact that children are allowed stay up late to watch it (it starts at 9.30 p.m.) adds to the excitement. Of course, the smaller ones are usually asleep after about half an hour Smile. The presenter gives out lots of generous prizes to the audience e.g. free toys and very generous gift cards for different shops, so there's huge demand for audience tickets. Last night one of the prizes (for each member of the audience) was a free holiday at a new Center Parcs that's due to open in Ireland! They usually have a slot where one of the children is rendered speechless when their musical or sporting hero walks onto the set. Happier I don't know if you watched it the whole way through so I won't spoil it for you if you didn't see this bit. The Toy Show is a bit of an institution in Ireland so all the kids would be talking about it at school and to actually get picked to demonstrate toys or perform on the Toy Show is A Very Big Deal. Some people put up their Christmas tree and decorations the day of the Toy Show.

Anyway, I gave out the Advent calendars to DH (Lego Star Wars) and DD (Cadburys). They were very bold and opened the first window after midnight.

It should be a frugal weekend because I'm not going anywhere or doing anything much. I want to give the house a good clean and catch up on laundry and wrap some of my presents.

Meadow I'm sorry to hear that everyone is so sick, especially DD. Hope you all feel better soon. It's very stressful and I'm not surprised your anxiety has rocketed Flowers. I hope your little excursion to the fayre helped - good to get away from it all even for a little while.

Seacow hope the Santa train is good and not too overwhelming for DS. Very annoying about the bank account Angry. Sounds like your oven wasn't too impressed with the vigorous cleaning and is now staging a protest.

Happier glad the instapot arrived - hope all goes well for your party. Is if family or friends or a mix of both?

Sneaky don't like the sound of your creepy neighbour Shock

Lonely what a rotten thing to happen at work. And I think you said that jobs like that are very scarce where you live, so it's not like you can flounce off and find another job where they'll treat you better. But don't believe their put-downs. At the risk of repeating myself, you are crafty and talented and all around fab and I am proud to call you my imaginary friend. I also predict that the other person will make a mess of the work and then they'll look to you to pick up the pieces.

Get well soon Girlie and Girlie Jr.

Autumn seems like your music has given you a new lease of life. You sound very chirpy these days.

Wolf annoying about the late payment from DH. Hopefully it's the bank's fault and not DH playing mind games.

Cag I was thinking of you during the week. They're opening a Hotel Chocolat in Dublin. They've a shop on Henry Street. They were fitting it out when I passed it - I'm not sure if it's actually opened yet.

Wolfcub · 01/12/2018 11:50

Gah. The tree is up. The 9 million lights that were new next year are on it. No decorations yet. I am exhausted and the bastard plug is missing off the lights. Why would anyone put the lights away without a plug.

Now looking through the old dec boxes for it, which I was trying to avoid and I am somewhat worried that if it went in a drawer it will have been binned as part of my wires with no purpose tidy up in the summer.

Happierwithouthim · 01/12/2018 11:54

Tayto that was a brilliant description of the toy show, it's the day mine get to wear their Christmas pjs for the first time Grin I watched it the whole way through, that young boy is just amazing I was thrilled for the whole family.

My instant pot is giving an error message EC I don't really have time to sort it out today. Will have to boil my rice Grin

I've taco mince made, bolognese in slow cooker for lasagne, Curry in oven, lemon cheesecake made items weighed out for beet wellington & will tackle sticky toffee pudding then.

I scorched a saucepan making stewed apple, forgot it was on & was engrossed in toy show, stewed apple is grand though Hmm

H quizzed me about single parents tax credit today, what did I put down for how much time the dc are with me? I wasn't asked that but he has been, it's great to see him squirm a little Grin

Happierwithouthim · 01/12/2018 11:55

Wolf that's super irritating 😠

AutumnLeaves12 · 01/12/2018 12:04

Thanks Tayto yes it has. I always wanted to play an orchestral instrument, since I was about 3, and it just never seemed to be possible. It's very exhilarating to have got this far.

Hilariously, people keep asking me to give music lessons to their children as they can see how musical ds it. They have no idea that he was just born that way and that I'm scrambling to keep up with him.

One of these days I'll say yes, and become the patientest, most inexperienced piano teacher ever. :-)

Is there any way that we can see that toy show in the UK? Ds is half Irish and I don't really know what cultural institutions I'm meant to be teaching him about. I'd be glad of any hints.

Wolfcub · 01/12/2018 12:35

I’ve torn the house apart. Looked in all the decoration places and asked h. No plug. I could cry. It took me an hour to get the lights on the tree it’s going to take another hour to get them off and then have to go and buy new again and start over Sad

SnugglySnerd · 01/12/2018 12:37

£33 top up shop. Got rid of 3 bags at the charity shop in preparation for Christmas and ordered the turkey from the butcher.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/12/2018 13:04

Wolf, can you just buy the plug bit off eBay?

CurlsandCurves · 01/12/2018 13:45

Happier EC I think means you’ve not got the lid on properly. There’s a list of error codes in the instruction manual.

ememem84 · 01/12/2018 13:46

£30 riding. In the rain.

Just got back and dh is off to work. Ds and I are going to make some pancakes this afternoon and maybe some dinosaur biscuits.

Pancakes for breakfast tomorrow (make them and freeze)

And biscuits for the week.

So my h free day has been anything but as I’ve had to be in touch and go through loads of things I’d packed up for him on the hunt for the transformer. No success bought new from Sainsbury’s. Absolutely knackered and depressed now. Best laid plans and all that

ememem84 · 01/12/2018 15:56

Made apple and raisin Chinese 5 spice pancakes. About 16 in total. 4 kept for tomorrow morning the rest in the freezer.

Have also changed bedding and sorted two loads of laundry. Ds is napping. He’s napping a lot at present. But is walking now and is tearing round the place non stop when he’s awake! So I guess he needs to rest!

Have also done a meal plan and a shopping list. Dh is going to go to the shop once ds is in bed.

The tree is up. Wooooo. The mess is tidied and the cake has been fed.

I also have whisky!

Ocado order arriving in a couple of hours but we have Sainsbury’s pizza first for easy tea whilst we warch strictly. My bet is on a shock exit this week

Em those pancakes sound lovely as does Happier’s menu

ememem84 · 01/12/2018 17:53

Thanks wolf tomorrow I’m attempting cinnamon rolls.... it could all go horribly wrong.

Sickness has hit here again for DD1, and her school is shut on Monday so they can deep clean as confirmed as norovirus. Currently trying to decide how to cover it, may be dependant on if either DP or I get ill 😷 I really have to go to work Monday as worried about probation.

DP spent £90 in Tesco (I really need to stop him going food shopping!)
£11 by me in Tesco for the missing bits
£14 matalan
£27 home bargains (included a dolly pram Christmas present)

Lovemaltesers · 01/12/2018 18:03

Thanks wolf. Sorry your day has turned out so rubbish, when you had great plans for fresh beginnings

Wolfcub · 01/12/2018 18:03

Oh god Em I bloody love cinnamon rolls

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/12/2018 18:03

Wrongwayup · 01/12/2018 18:15
