I wonder if there's any way to practise running inside a house, like running up and down the stairs 30 times a day. Part of our problem is that we live in a city, so ds can't get out and practise, even if he wanted to.

Unescorted · 08/02/2018 21:09

sea that sounds hurty.
Love do you fancy doing mine when you get a chance? I have a competency based job application to do. A sideways move but I am bored with my job. And this one has more chance of promotion. I must fill the form in.

Wolfcub · 08/02/2018 21:17

Unescorted I’ve got one of those to do tomorrow. I would rather stick skewers in my legs

MeadowHay · 08/02/2018 21:25

Wolf Unescorted Urgh, I hate those. Civil Service by any chance? They are the worst. I got interviewed for a civil service job a few months ago and got put on the waiting list, was quite pleased as before the interview arrived I had decided I probably wouldn't take it anyway, and the waiting list thing meant I would be contacted if the role opened up again within x months. Well I just accidentally found out it has as they're recruiting now but they haven't contacted me! Hmm I don't want it anyway but still feel miffed!

Sunny Could you get a treadmill or take him to the gym to use a treadmill? Or just running laps in a park?

ememem84 · 08/02/2018 21:29

Exactly sea it’s a risky game we’re playing but it’ll pay off. I know it will. When we lost our buyer last year we had to pull the sale because pregnant. But it was becoming more difficult to sell because it was summer and people want outside space which we don’t have.

The offer we’ve accepted this time is a whopping £13k more than the one we acceoted last time.

Am going out out tomorrow. Lovely friends invited me to meet her at 430 for a “cheeky” cocktail then to my fave Indian restaurant. She’s paying. Then we’re going to see 50 shades greyer (or whatever it’s called). This is not my kind of movie. I read the books and thought they were utter tosh. But each to their own. She wants to go. So I’ll go. Plus cocktails and curry and uninterrupted time without ds so I can talk about grown up things without having to stop mid conversation and be “oh you’ve dribbled on Mummy...” or “ohh nooo not a sicky....” #mumlife

needastrongone · 08/02/2018 21:32

sunny. One thing I notice with DH is that, whatever you suggest, he will find a reason to say no. Whatever it is. I sometimes think that's why he struggles with MH issues, it's a trait I've noticed in his family, MIL excepted. Me, I'm different. Mil says I was born sunny side up. DH was definitely the other way ha ha!! All I'm gently saying in a bloody useless and crap and clumsy way that I have is that, you are not telling me, in that beautiful and stunning city of yours, there's nowhere, not one green space that your DS can run around in? If he wanted it and you wanted him to that is? I just think where there's a will there's always a way!

My coach for running is out in Kenya at the minute, he's helping with coaching young kids. They don't have the money for trainers, they just run bare foot. Because they want to run iyswim?

Ps - I'd be knackered running up and down my stairs for any length of timeGrinGrin

MeadowHay · 08/02/2018 21:33

Lonely You need to write to their head office and state clearly that you expect to be compensated for your loss, detailing your loss, sending copies of all previous correspondence and other related documents etc and asking them to therefore send your claim to their insurers. This is sort of the area I work in, or at least related. It will do you no harm to also send a copy of that to the CEO.

SunnyLikeThursday · 08/02/2018 21:45

Need LOL! This is another of these things where it's hard for you to understand because we are completely and utterly different from you.

We can't run round a park because I just actually can't run (CFS type stuff) and ds is too young to go sprinting off round a park by himself.

My hope is that by running up and down the stairs he could get maximum effect from minimum time commitment. He has no interest in actually running but just needs a very quick way to build up some muscle and stamina. We don't want excellence, we just need him to be able to run fast enough to not be embarrassed when playing tig.

Does that make any sense at all?

Loveabaconsandwich · 08/02/2018 21:53

unescorted and wolf I truly haven’t mastered the art of compentency based applications. I didn’t pass the competencies of a job at a similar grade last year. Made me feel crap! Luckily i’ve managed to sideways move without applying from one job to another over the last few years when i’ve got fed up.

I’ve finished my mini CV. It isn’t great. But I did get offered a job on a 10 minute chat the other day so figured they might not be extra picky Wink

My eye hurts and feels weird

mammymammyIRL · 08/02/2018 21:59

I'm not caught up & I don't think I will get caught up tonight either but just a little ponder sunny is running his issue or is it that they're playing catchy type games and he's not fast enough to know it's time to go the opposite direction for a fraction longer than the rest & falls behind this way? I'm not sporty at all and this would have been something I vaguely remember from school but definitely know it happens me in exercise classes as an adult, possibly due to coordination issues but running as an individual effort I can do definitely.
That's long winded I don't know if it makes sense?
I have visited your city, isn't there lovely walks by river & parks there that your ds could run on? Isn't it the city that lots cycle in, a university city? Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've been in my job 10 years, last interviews I did were almost 11 years ago. What are compentencies that you guys are writing up?

Seacow I'm not great, going to do reduced hours a few days next week.
Half day tomo, Hairdressers, followed by make up, followed by attending a wedding. Sat night away with dh who isn't so 'd' this evening Angry

Spends today
€7 eyebrow shape
€2 protein bar
€4 old El Paso enchilada sauce, and old El Paso fajita sauce
€10 DD's ladybirds fees
€4 chicken burger 🍔 I rarely eat anything like this but a friend asked me to take her to takeaway and I hadn't yet cooked my dinner, steak, so I said pick me up a burger
Like why would you eat a burger if you've steak at home Smile if you're cranky, tired & hungry is my justification

Today was YNAB day, pay packet down due to sick pay (no overtime) so less to play around with Sad

Lighthearted poll what's the longest you went before naming your child?
Heard of someone today's who had her second baby boy a week ago and he's as yet nameless Grin the names they had in mind don't suit! It was the child's granny who told me, she's afraid the older boy calling him baby will stick Grin
We had a boy & girl name picked for first baby so dd got that girl name then we kept same boy name and picked new girl name & ds got the boy name, they suited the babies when they were born though Grin

sunny am pretty sure there is a junior parkrun in your city, that's an excellent place to start as you don't have to run (although you could help as a marshall) and your ds only has to compete against himself iyswim. I think joining dd up to various sports clubs helped with her overall fitness, the one that actually made the biggest difference was tennis which surprised me. Tennis made a huge difference to her coordination and general stamina. My mum paid for one to one classes for her last summer and I still see the benefits now.

Busy afternoon and evening here, had parents evening which went well, they all seemed happy with dd which is always nice to hear.

We went to morrisons for tea as dd had to go back up to the school for a dance show this evening. Tea was £6.

Ive been sorting out the living room ready for bday girl tomorrow 😊

needastrongone · 08/02/2018 22:41

Makes sense and I was coming back on to apologise for perhaps being intrusive in my post. Your life if your life and not my business. And I felt I overstepped what I was trying to say.

But I still have the unshakable belief that if you want something to happen, you can find a way. You only have to look at the Para-Olympic athletes to see that this is so.

Here speaks the relentless optimist thoughGrin

needastrongone · 08/02/2018 22:45

Oh junior park run is an fantastic thing (from one who regularly volunteers at the adult version). Great idea girlie, my PT's 8 year old did her first one last week. They are marshalled through the whole course so never out of sight at any point and it's all about participating.

Definitely not about excellence, I never intended that.

SunnyLikeThursday · 08/02/2018 22:47

mammy Thanks, yeah, I know what you mean. I better not witter on really. It seems a shame to discuss my ds's shortcomings at length on MN. He reads like a pro, for what it's worth.

SunnyLikeThursday · 08/02/2018 23:22

Oooo! I just got myself a hot water bottle. Man damn it's good.

SunnyLikeThursday · 09/02/2018 00:13

I have also bought ds a treadmill, would you believe. If you notice that hell has frozen over at some point in the coming week, it may be because a family member of mine is doing exercise voluntarily. LOL!

mammymammyIRL · 09/02/2018 05:49

He's hardly reading Mumsnet though sunny so work away Grin

Happy Birthday to girlies dd Grin

I also have CS competency to write. I think I have written them all over the last few weeks. Can't get a promotion in my current organisation so trying externally.

It's 1/2 term next week- must meal plan.
Parent fail yesterday - forgot dress up day at school. DS ended up trying on the authentic costume someone took into school so he was made up with that.

SunnyLikeThursday · 09/02/2018 06:38

I try to be a bit careful Mammy because it wouldn't be too hard for a hacker to just change all our usernames to be our actual names and out the whole lot of us overnight. I ought to chance my actual name in profile to a made up one I suppose.

mammymammyIRL · 09/02/2018 07:00

Lifelong you're under pressure unfortunately we're not perfect.

SuperValu gave yet another €27.50 off think it's an operation transformation promotion so there'll be another 5? weeks I think 🤔
So in frugal use of my time I'm going to get delivery first thing tomo morn before we head away so that I'm ahead for week ahead.

We managed without child benefit going into mortgage this month, not sure if u mentioned that!

I think sunny even if we were hacked I’d be safe - I rarely post on the more contentious threads (the ones the newspapers pick up on anyway) so my “outings” would be dh and I can’t agree on a house, I hate my mil, I have too many beauty products and what I’ve worn today. Haha!

Was awake st 4. Has to get a hot water bottle for my hands. They are so sore. Dh has just commented that they can’t bethat sore as I’m typing on my phone. Thinks he’s being clever he does. They are sore but they’re sore doing nothing.

Gym then a mostly stay home day (maybe a walk) and then out out tonight

Argh just stood on a marble AngrySadAngrySadAngry

Em that would make me mad

Dh has made me mad this morning. He doesn't have to be in work until later so could make the DC's assembly for the first time ever but he doesn't want to so he's not going. What a twat. I always go to their assemblies on my days off.
