This week we're doing quite well with organised healthy dinners without the stress.
Monday dc and dh had something Confused and I had scrambled egg on toast

Tuesday Prawn Stirfry, frugally using up a pack for pad thai that has been languishing in the cupboard for approx 1 year Grin
Wednesday Chicken Curry and Rice - curry in slow cooker so all I had to do when I came in was cook the rice
Thursday BBQ Pork Chops, Veg and Potatoes - potatoes steamed last night so should be on plates in 20 mins tonight
Friday Meatballs in Lloyd Grossman tomato & basil sauce with pasta
Saturday Bacon, Veg and Potatoes
Sunday Roast Chicken and all the trimmings

Great news about your DC Audit.

Hello new folk.

I'm a complete and utter diet sceptic I am afraid, for a variety of reasons. Unless they change peoples attitude towards and relationship with food of course.

100% agree that diet, exercise and sun protection and genetics are more effective than any cream. (I do love a cream though!). But my skin is clear because of the former, not the creams!!

I've just done the Meerkat cinema offer trick that Martin Lewis recommends and someone mentioned on here. Bought a single days travel insurance for £4, which gives me access to 2 for 1 cinema tickets at Odeon on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for a year. Cool.

mammymammyIRL · 11/01/2018 10:00

Carraig Donn sale email came in today, and there's lots of lovely stuff but I'm not buying because of NSD Jan and it's not a saving if I'm putting it on the credit card either. Halo

needastrongone · 11/01/2018 10:03

Can I just also mention that I have bought NOTHING from the Hush sale.... nothing... nada....niente.....Grin

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 11/01/2018 10:10

Ugh just lost a post!!

I love the meal plans as well, a little bit in awe at some of them! I am very time short so we tend to eat the same dinners on a rotation. Need to make a vat of bolegnaise today as got a load of mushrooms to use up, will freeze several portions.

A normal week for us is jacket potatoes, freezer food, pasta, roast dinner and something on toast !!

Dd is off today, given her the benefit of doubt as she is saying her throat is sore Hmm told her she will be going in tomos as I've got work!!

She has a routine ent appointment later anyway, parking will be ££ no doubt but otherwise should be a lsd...

Pinkpeppermintteaforme · 11/01/2018 10:15

Well done mammy
Ive stuck to the meal plan and have realised that a couple of nights a week of scrambled egg/omlette isnt too bad and it deals with being tired and hungry pretty fast.
Add in some fruit and a couple of squares from my choc stash and Im happy.
Leftover biryani and 5 spice potato tonight.
Batch cooked 2 bags of new pots that were 15p a bag reduced so just need to chuck in the spices and fry up.
Bread made .

Pinkpeppermintteaforme · 11/01/2018 10:19

need I would agree that diets arent great if they are too extreme and not sustainable.
I eat everything in moderation .
I quite fancy a couple of skirts from Hush need
Can you put me off them please Grin

ememem84 · 11/01/2018 10:25

I haven’t even looked at the hush sale.

needastrongone · 11/01/2018 10:30

5 spice potato Pink? That sounds good. What you put in your mouth for many folk is complicated, there's a lot of emotion tied up in eating for lots of people. I think maybe if folk figure that too, then maybe diets would be more successful. Who knows? There's been that many diets and folk are getting larger on the whole, I can't figure it out.

Agree omelette/scrambled eggs etc are a great quick meal. I generally have to eat a bit more the next day sometimes.

Girlie Have you tried the Jamie Oliver 7 veg sauce? I made a massive pot of it yesterday, it's quick and easy. You can do other stuff too as it cooks.

needastrongone · 11/01/2018 10:30

Pink I look at how much Hush stuff I own already and stay away ha ha!!

needastrongone · 11/01/2018 10:33

In stages, for Girlie. I chopped in sausages for DS and veggie ones for me and DD. But bacon would work, halloumi etc

What's this 7 veg sauce? Scurries off to google, maybe it'll get more veg into my dc. They've developed a love of potatoes, steamed in their skins at dgp's over Christmas, so I pulled out my steam saucepan topper yesterday to give them the same at home. We also peel, chop, boil and mash, don't think dh is too happy about it Hmm

Dieting where people are very strict for a short period of time, and then binge, go back to old habits and repeat has definitely meant people are getting much heavier.

mammymammyIRL · 11/01/2018 10:36

Looks good need if I don't see the courgettes I'll surely forget they're in there Grin

SnugglySnerd · 11/01/2018 10:41

Jamie's 7 veg sauce is amazing! All the dcs love it. It makes a good pizza sauce too. I need to make some actually, we're down to one portion in the freezer.

needastrongone · 11/01/2018 10:41

Smile I'm the only one that likes courgette here too! I'll photo the recipe if you can't find it Mammy. I think Snuggly uses it too. Makes a lot of portions. I think you're right, folk feel deprived and then return to their less healthy ways, having not changed any bad habits for good. X

Right, admin has turned into MN, but I've done what I needed too, plus chucked some stock on for good measure.

needastrongone · 11/01/2018 10:42

Ha - cross post with the very person!!

It's frugal too.

SnugglySnerd · 11/01/2018 10:42

Ha! Cross post Need!

SnugglySnerd · 11/01/2018 10:42

Twice!

WreckTangled · 11/01/2018 10:44

My dc don't like the JO 7 veg sauce 🙄

mammymammyIRL · 11/01/2018 11:12

found it need Jamie Oliver's 7 Veg Sauce

Next week's shopping list & meal planner will include this!

MeadowHay · 11/01/2018 11:16

Need Mmm, looks yummy!! I love lots of veg. I pretty much like all veg I think. Also we've done the Meerkat Movies thing for the last few years, we don't use it that often but now and again it's ace to save some money.

Thanks for all the pram tips, making a mental note for a few months time! Snuggly the adjustable handlebar thing is a good point as DH is tall (over 6 foot), although I imagine I will be using it a lot more than him.

I've been on this thread for ages and never meal planned yet! Dunno if that's a bad thing or not but tbh we always have stuff in so we just decide on the day what to make.

Girlie Hope DD feels better soon.

ememem84 · 11/01/2018 11:24

SAuce looks yum.

I’ve said before here that I’m an emotional spender but I’m also an emotional eater. I love fresh healthy food don’t get me wrong but sweets crisps etc are what I crave when I’m in stress.

Tonight’s dinner is green Thai chicken curry.

Floors hoovered. Washing on. Tidied up a bit.

I looked at the hush sale. I want but don’t need anything.

Annwithnoe · 11/01/2018 11:37

Emotional spender is a great term. Having a bad day here: €50 on counseling which is the last thing I’d ever cut back on! But we got intimidated some pretty heavy stuff and I had to collect a parcel for DH and splurged on a Burger King €7.50 while I was out. Had a mosey round the shops and picked up all sorts and put it all back. Still went to BK though. Oh well, could have been worse.

Annwithnoe · 11/01/2018 11:38
  • we got into some pretty heavy stuff. No one was intimidated. Stupid auto correct
Annwithnoe · 11/01/2018 11:39

Now wishing I hadn’t put back the chocolate Hmm
