need Did you manage to stay dry today?

I was just remembering on my first ever day in Cambridge when I was cycling around looking for digs, we had the worst day of rain for years. I was soaked through to my undies for the whole day and all the way home on the train. At one point I got lost in the outskirts of the town on my bike and ended up on a building site, where my map disintegrated in the rain. I think Cambridge must always have it's whole year's supply of rain in one epic day of splosh.

I hope you had fun in spite of it.

MeadowHay · 04/11/2017 19:35

Sunny That sounds like such a sad little story! I would be bawling my eyes out if that kind of thing happened to me but then I am irrationally anxious most of the time.

NSD again obv given I'm still housebound. My dinner was just a few garlic dough balls and a cracker...sigh. I haven't vomited much today on the plus side, still feel bloody grim though. DH is out volunteering so this is my first time alone for a week or so. DM and DB are coming to visit me tomorrow for a bit too. I'm sad that I'm missing the fireworks and volunteering. But I am enjoying Strictly on the plus side...little wins.

I wear fleece-lined leggings from New Look, so warm and comfy and inexpensive, but they get super bobbly straight away which is annoying.

needastrongone · 04/11/2017 19:38

Just back in. It’s been a long couple of days. But good.

sunny, so glad that I read your earlier message, I only just did. But I’m glad that I did. I wouldn’t have seen King’s Chapel. And I am eternally glad that I did. Thank you.

DD loved the lectures, loved the talk about the course, loved Cambridge. And wants to apply, so is now researching colleges. And needs to get the gradesSmile

I’m a bit over spends this week, as I got a few bits today. All for Christmas or DH’s birthday next week. Nothing frivolous.

needastrongone · 04/11/2017 19:41

Oh and I enjoyed watching those still brave enough to go punting on the river in this weather!

ememem84 · 04/11/2017 19:52

Watching strictly. Holy moly. Ruth and Anton...

Cagliostro · 04/11/2017 19:53

em I just came to write the same thing 😂 That was... an experience

MeadowHay · 04/11/2017 20:24

Em Cag They are my faves by far haha. I grew up watching Ruth on ITV so adore her.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/11/2017 21:10

£20 all in at the footy. Some such at Sainsbury's. Tired.
Haven't seen strictly yet, was it bad?

ememem84 · 04/11/2017 21:41

life no it wasn’t bad. But yeah. Just watch Ruth and Anton. It was glorious. Especially the ending. A real WTF??? I hope they win the series now. Glitterball

Spends today £27 Riding. Annoyingly our lesson price has gone up. I can afford it, but it’s the annoying amount. £27. Eugh. Means I either have to have the right money or have to get a bunch of change. Aaah. But hey ho.

Chickpea coconut curry for dinner. Strictly and then we watched an episode of “wanted” on Netflix. I’m now in bed with ds and catface. Nice. All my faves (apart from dh who will be in later).

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 04/11/2017 22:21

We went to the fireworks and am pleased we did as they were pretty epic cost £8, also wasted £3 on a raffle there, didn't win anything.

Will be watching Strictly on catch up tomos, this year has been a good one!!

Also got petrol today £27.

Glad you were able to eat something Meadow

ChristmasSeacow · 04/11/2017 22:25

Hellooo! Been to PILs for lunch today. Lovely to see DNephew as well - he's a few months older than DD and it was very cute seeing them eyeing each other up. And both dcs were very well behaved in the car and super cute for the GPs. I was very proud.

NSD and not too bad diet-wise apart from the very yummy pavlova... but I am looking at yarn online. Someone tell me to stop.

Glad you had a good day Need - does this mean DD has gone off Oxford? Wink Seriously, 'best' depends on the course. Although I do genuinely prefer Oxford as a city as it is just a bit bigger and there is a little more to it. Both stunningly beautiful. Good luck to her.

Meadow you poor thing, HG sounds so grim! I hope it eases soon.

There has been so much chat today I've lost track, sorry!

Oh, I remembered this though: Mo... if your baby really sleep that long last night in one go then I am not sure we can be friends Envy. Unless you'd consider a swap? Wink

SunnyLikeThursday · 04/11/2017 22:32

Need That's great that you found the chapel. I really find it amazing to see. That's very nice that your daughter enjoyed her day. I think she'd probably be fine from what you've said about her.

Meadow It's okay, my first day wasn't that bad actually. It was only water, and I was so excited about the adventure that it barely touched me. At the moment when my map disintegrated I was standing looking at the foundations of the building where I later met my husband, so I think of that as rather a happy rainy memory in an odd way.

100yearsdotcom · 04/11/2017 23:54

It's been lovely to read back and catch up, the chat just gets nicer and nicer.

So, spends, mainly NSD all week with just taxi fares of £19 total for return journeys to hospital - would love to not have to be doing this - and £61 weekly shop. Also frugally applying for wtc and ctc which should give us a boost although waiting in trepidation to see if our mortgage will be increasing. Nothing we can do if it does as we can't remortgage at the moment.

SnugglySnerd · 05/11/2017 03:23

Been up 2 hours already with one baby then the other. I've just had an epiphany! I think they might need to drop their 3rd nap!

Strictly was fab again.

ChristmasSeacow · 05/11/2017 03:52

but hope you are asleep by now!

SnugglySnerd · 05/11/2017 06:26

Thanks Seacow! I think I slept between 4.15ish and 5.45! Hope you got some sleep too!

Hoping for another NSD although I might go out for more bird seed. The birds are emptying the feeder twice a week at the moment. Do they stock up before the winter perhaps? I don't mind. DD and I love watching them.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/11/2017 06:42

Morning, more Footi today freezing my wotsits off.
Fireworks tonight.

Pleased a good time was had by dd need.
Glad to hear the needs are working a bit meadow. Come on here and moan away if it helps as we are some of the few who know.
Will watch strictly later or just the results show.
Pleased the riding is going well em

needastrongone · 05/11/2017 07:27

And it is bloody freezing too Life. I've got a 10k today, pretty local anyway.

Boo hiss (well, it is nearly panto season) for the lack of sleep and sickness.

Seacow We've lot to see, but she's really taken with the course, the lecturers etc so far. There's others on the list to visit but this visit has been useful in any event as it's inspired her to aim high and graft hard for it. Personally, I have found St Andrews the most stunning of all the places visited, so quiet. I'm biased though, I love Scotland almost as my spiritual home and I'd like to see Cambridge again when it's not tipping it down on a Saturday 6 or so weeks before Christmas Grin as I think it would show it's self in an even better light than it did already.

Spends - will copper together £6 for some race clips for pinning numbers on in club colours, that's it.

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/11/2017 07:30

Good luck need. Are your aiming for a time or just competing? I miss 10k races.

needastrongone · 05/11/2017 07:35

I'll see how the legs are Life, but sub 45 would be good. I used to run around 42 but those days might be gone, I'm not doing so much 10k based training. I hate 10k's, you are mad liking them!

lifelongfrugaleer · 05/11/2017 07:40

45 is a good time, my best was 54 back in the day. See I hate the longer distances. Takes a mad thing to know one Grin

needastrongone · 05/11/2017 07:46
Grin

54 is a bloody decent outing too! I like the slow burn of a half or marathon, 10k too much hurt. It's a club run though, so I'll do it and enjoy.

WreckTangled · 05/11/2017 08:07

Was meant to be going spinning today but my friend has had a bad night with her ds so we’re going for coffee instead. Will be cheaper than spinning and eating now so I’m not tempted to buy food as well.

Going to do a roast for dinner and have just put some washing on so that’s the main bulk of it done.

SunnyLikeThursday · 05/11/2017 08:09

Need I would also seriously consider St Andrew's. Is she thinking of studying archaeology though? That's not the golden road to gainful employment unless she plans to ditch the subject entirely on graduation and become an administrator or something.

northender · 05/11/2017 08:27

Got back just before midnight after a Devon stop off for ds & Dh to go to the football. Long journey but nice to be back home.
need glad your Cambridge trip has given your dd focus, I can imagine our dd being like that but we've a while to go yet. Ds is in GCSE year but has now decided that he wants to take a year out after A levels to go to play cricket in Aus/NZ. He will have to save up the fare but then should be able to find a club to play for & help with coaching & in return, the club will provide a family for him to lodge with. He has no focus really academically in terms of what he wants to do, despite being bright so I think the year out will be great for him.
need and life I'm in awe as I've never run times anywhere close to those.
wreck I haven't done spinning for years but used to enjoy it
girlie I love bonfire/fireworks but I think we've missed the boat as all here were either Friday or last night.
Sorry to snuggly and all others having disturbed sleep, it's soooo energy sapping

Here it's going to be all about unpacking and organising ready for back to school & work tomorrow. We've got a busy 2 weeks coming up so definitely need a plan. Also need to update my budget spreadsheet, bug not sure it's going to be good news. However frugal you feel you are on holiday, it always seems to work out expensive.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.
