We were supposed to have a power cut today (between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.) but it hasn't gone yet. So we planned a day of board games and arts and crafts. But the power hasn't actually gone yet. We're enjoying a fun day anyway and have agreed we should do it more often i.e. play games and do arts and crafts. Only thing is, I could have got a few wash loads done.

WreckTangled · 12/11/2017 15:31

Our power is going off on Wednesday all day. Luckily we will be out of the house. Does mean it’ll be freezing when we get home though!

ememem84 · 12/11/2017 15:44

Apparently mil and Fil never did the presents from the kids when they were younger. We always did it when I was growing up.

Catface bought dh presents on his birthday too. And on mine the first year she was here - but not this year.... hmm with all the new baby excitement she must have forgotten.

fluffy dh is he same re holidays. We went for a walk earlier. I asked when did I get a break (and also said that I’m struggling with the having to ask permission effectively to go somewhere on my own thing). Dh sympathised - and said that’s why he’s scheduling all his things (appointments gym etc) during the day so I can do gym etc when he gets home. Sadly, a lot of the things I used to do are at 6. I’m lucky if he’s home by 615...can’t take ds spinning. (I have checked and there is a crèche at the gym but only between 1045 and 1145...)

Maybe I just need to rethink. We popped into see Dm and df after our walk. Dh’s idea. He likes chatting to Dm. She said (while they’d been in the kitchen making tea) that if I ever want to gym in the mornings just to drop Ds up to her. So dh has had a word...

He did the best smiles at my dad too (ds not dh). This makes all the crapness so worth it.

Petrol today - £30.45 dh questioned why I hadn’t got it in the week....because I have to get ds out of the car for all of 3 minutes when I pay and it takes longer than that to get him out the car and back in....!

Remember remember it's frugal November
WreckTangled · 12/11/2017 15:48

Oh em I’ve always been a ‘leave them in the car’ person when I got petrol BUT I know people whose dc cried the second the car stopped so wouldn’t have done it then

ememem84 · 12/11/2017 15:51

wreck id do it but there are so many busybodys here whod report to social services/police etc or give me a mouthful once I got back to the car... and at the station with the cheapest petrol you can’t se the cars from the till.

And no pay at pumps on island at all. So....

Anyway. Ds is in living room with dh. Dh is making cottage pie. I’m on bed watching suits. Yay.

WreckTangled · 12/11/2017 15:54

Mmm love cottage pie. I suppose if no one else does it round your way it’s not worth the hassle! It always amuses great debate on here...

Roast chicken for dinner here. With pigs in blankets mmmm

Dd is feeling under the weather and is asleep Sad

Cagliostro · 12/11/2017 16:06

That smile!!! 😍💕

Loveabaconsandwich · 12/11/2017 16:08

Urrrgh just lost a post.

Summary: not been well so stayed in bed all weekend = frugal

fluffy those data tracking apps seem to keep cutting out my wi fi connection. But I want the vouchers so will have to just reduce my internet surfing!

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/11/2017 16:12

He is giving a smashing smile there, has he got a little chin cleft?. I tell Dh if he wants to live like a child he can go home to mom. So far he's not taken me up on it. I don't think she'd be too thrilled either.

Im making rice pudding with long grain rice. Out of pudding rice.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/11/2017 16:16

Love Yes that's pissing me off too. It's when the vpn is logging in. Sometimes you have to switch off & on again.

As soon as vpn appears in the corner it speeds up again.

Loveabaconsandwich · 12/11/2017 16:22

When I try to turn the vpn off, it just flicks back on again. I seem to lose connection if I’ve been online for a while.

Lonely please will you pm me your Etsy shop?

SunnyLikeThursday · 12/11/2017 16:51

I've chosen a microwave. Hopefully it works okay. I had a Panasonic too Wreck but mine rusted after a year and has packed up altogether after two. I'm not sure what happened there.

lifelongfrugaleer · 12/11/2017 16:51

Ah cute smile em

SunnyLikeThursday · 12/11/2017 16:51

Oh - no it was four years. That's definitely not in warranty then.

WreckTangled · 12/11/2017 16:55

I don’t think they make things like they used to Hmm

SunnyLikeThursday · 12/11/2017 17:29

LOL! I think you're right. I went and visited loads of microwaves in Tesco and John Lewis today and they were a bit rubbish. I bought a Sharp one in the end. I'm hoping it will be good.

We're buying a smaller, less powerful one, on the grounds that it will take up less space. We used to have a huge combi thing that I got as ex-rental for very cheap when I was a student. It was bomb-proof and lasted for donkey's years. But Huge.

LonelyOversharer · 12/11/2017 17:48

em gorgeous little boy you have! Smiles (and later hugs and kisses) do make up for a lot of crap! The love we have for our dc is totally irrational, my dd1 (who is nt) threw hideous 3 hr tantrums daily for several years. She still makes my heart burst, but crikey, she tested me!

Turkey (bacon and leek) pie filling in the slow cooker. Smells divine. Will cook the pastry separately in a bit. Need to sort some veg out too.

Spent £13 in the coop, the chap who bought our old tandem frame on ebay turned out to be a guy who comes to our races. We were, "oh, it's you!" Small world. One bike less in the shop.

Unfrugal maths:
DH's first day back at work + ill mummy = takeaway pizza! 🍕💸

needastrongone · 12/11/2017 18:06

Afternoon. Haven’t read back other than skimmed (the baby talk, sorrySmileSmile) as it’s been a busy weekend but thought I needed to check in before I lose the thread completely.

fluffy, nothing yet from the water. I’ll give it another week. You’ll be pleased to learn that I was £110 in credit on my final dual fuel bill though. You would break into a cold sweat at the total lack of fuel efficiency in our house, so god knows how we do it. I’m putting in towards the winter fuel bill and turning th heating upGrin

Spends
£40 Aldi, the monthly stock up of cleaning products, nuts, baking stuff etc. Plus selection boxes for the DC. I got so much for this.
£23 M&S, pile of reduced stuff. Great haul. Hoping that I can eek out the shopping now.
£8 candle for a present.
£2 tin of mints for a present.
£2 coffees after marshalling at an event this morning.

Yesterday
£40 takeout, half will come back from our friends.
£8 Amazon

life cheers for the heads up on the Nectar boost.

Should be a frugal week, I’ve meal planned and we are having a number of veggie food, soups etc. The Ocado organic vegetable box is fab value and I’m working through meal options using it as a base. Keeps me thinking.

MeadowHay · 12/11/2017 18:08

Hi everyone. Been awfully ill as usual so didn't really have anything to post out so been sulking on my own Grin. My sick note runs out tomorrow so need to get DH to call the GP for me tomorrow and hopefully can arrange another one because clearly I'm not going back to work any time soon, bleurgh. I am slowly increasing the variety of things I feel able to stomach though keeping more down so that's good at least.

Our microwave is Daewoo. We've had it 3 years and it's fab. We got it on offer from Wilko's at the time.

DPs and DS came to visit me today. Which was nice if it weren't for my DF making irritating comments all the time and saying I will now never be a lawyer. That's his reaction to my pregnancy, lol. When DM told him (he was abroad for a while so waited til he came back) he Whatsapped me saying 'I've heard you're not well. Hope you feel better soon.' !!! DM says it is his cultural background and they don't say congratulations when hearing about pregnancies and things there, I'm not so sure but what can I say/do really. Sigh.

We are having to put our heating on a lot now as it's cold and I'm home all day and barely moving because of HG. I am dreading what our bills will be like eek.

Em DS is so cuuuute, look at that little smile!!

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 12/11/2017 18:15

That is such a cute pic em parenting is such hard work and a massive adjustment getting used to having to constantly consider someone else's needs first.

We have had a lovely day, made use of our national Trust membership and went to knightshayes. Not been before and we both loved it.

Spends £7 on 4 cushions for my sofa (2nd hand.)
£5 Cafe.

Think that's it, not bad considering it was such a nice day.
