I got a lovely lie in this morning.

Meadow you need to direct the teenagers and keep telling them what to do or they will drift off into chat and other things. We have teenagers at beavers and that's the secret.
I would possibly divide and conquer too. Have little sub groups too but on a theme as you have a big age range.
Depending on your space we find game, craft, game works well. Elevens is ok and will help with numbers, home science experiment, decoating biscuits and cakes, making sandwiches, fruit kebabs, have a craft theme depending on the season/calender. We are going spring flowers next week. Then Easter. (Pinterest is your friend). I appreciate there may be religious aspects but you could do chicks and bunny's rather than Christianity.
Hth of you need more let me know

mammymammyIRL · 26/03/2017 07:51

Wow you guys have been chatty in my absence Smile
This will probably be a long post cos I'm catching up on a full days news from you guys Smile
Em in Germany they've a plate smashing ceremony prior to a wedding idea is you get all the arguments out of the way before the weddingHmm you'd fit right in Grin I broke a ceramic dips dish handle during the week, I'm going to attempt to fix it with uv glue, I really like the dish.
Best that sounds like a very frugal trip to ikea
Lonely that's great going to be managing your bank account like that, what a difference!
Hi tayto!!! Good to see you, did you enjoy our lovely fine day yesterday?
How much does your weekly shop cost then roughly? Just wondering Smile
I also did washing & hung it out yesterday two loads

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/03/2017 07:54

Grin need

Pottering today. House full of kids. Will make crispy cakes and raspberry and mallow muffins. Sunday lunch. Maybe a bit of gardening.

needastrongone · 26/03/2017 08:03

ps - Happy hangover Creme Grin

LonelyOversharer · 26/03/2017 08:25

Missing my hours sleep! But it's unheard of to only have one dc up at 8am, the house is so quiet. Have dispatched dp off on group pedal, am back in bed with a coffee in a new cup. Would be perfect if Blaze and the sodding monster machines wasn't on the telly.

Fine here, slight frost. Will start moving bricks soon. Dogs escaped last night as I'd left the gate open Blush luckily they were too tired to get far. Still, woke us up as I ran up the lane while dp went in the car (we have the routine down).

Happy mothers day to all the mums, and mums-to-be, and lets all of us have a lovely day FlowersCake

Loveabaconsandwich · 26/03/2017 08:46

Happy Mother's Day to all the mums, special mums to be, and mums of the future

Special thought to those missing their mums and those with difficult relationships with their mums FlowersCake

Strawberrythief87 · 26/03/2017 09:00

Just caught up on everything from yesterday, congratulations Cag sounds like we all need to be careful on this thread!
Yesterday was not a very frugal day at all here as expected, spent £60 on dinner and drinks for me and dp at friends birthday party and £20 on a scent from Lush as mine ran out a few weeks ago Blush but that will last me about a year
Todays not going to be too much better spends wise as I'm taking my mum out for mothers day and really want to spoil her as she does so much for me and dp and is helping us organise the wedding so it'll be exhibition tickets, coffee and cake then back home where (hopefully) dp will have prep'ed a roast dinner. Hoping to have a lot of nsd's next week instead!
Also in exciting news I've got an interview for a new job on Wednesday, I'm doubting I'll get it as they want someone to start quickly and my notice period is 8 weeks, either way it'll be good practice as I haven't had any interviews for a couple of years.
Hope everyone has a lovely day

ememem84 · 26/03/2017 09:00

Happy Mother's Day all you mums!!!

Catface has observed the clock change and plonked herself on my tummy at 7am.

I'm now sat up watching criminal minds having made myself a fish finger samdwich. Last Mother's Day where I'm not a mum...weird to think that this time next year things will have changed so much.

But all for the better.

Cagliostro · 26/03/2017 09:03

Well put bacon 💐 Hope everyone has a lovely day x

Spends yesterday £13 in m&s on steak and beef stock. Dh made Vietnamese pho bo for dinner. Not something I'd had before but sil is Vietnamese and she made it for him when he was in nz. I sent her a pic and she approved. Man it was tasty. And healthy.

I've been signed up by my midwife to a lifestyle and nutrition study. So from my 12 week appointment I've been asked to keep a food and exercise diary and will have three questionnaires during the rest of my pg and an interview after baby arrives. Then a further two questionnaires while on mat leave. They may extend until baby is 2.

Idea being to see whether mum to be's lifestyle has any correlation with babies weight at birth and then their growth.

It's not too much effort as I generally keep track of what I'm eating anyway.

Should be nsd today.

Aww Em! So exciting 😍

An exorbitant day here. Bloody car & glasses! Commuting is the devil at the moment as the car is not coping with uneven windy country roads. Grrr!

Yesterday we had said we shall not fritter. 10 mins later we had bought a new life jacket for DS even though we don't need it until Easter ConfusedHmm £30 (which is actually good value)

Does anyone know of any decent private pensions? I'd like to set one up on top of the governments workplace pension. I used to work in investment & I still have no idea what I'm doing regarding pensions. Shameful! It'll be minimal payments to begin with but I'd like the freedom of increasing my monthly contribution whenever I like. Does that even exist? Blush

mammymammyIRL · 26/03/2017 09:21

Posted too soon I wasn't finished catching upGrin
Seacow the iTunes password is one that troubles me every time Smile
Just realised I forgot to buy my weekly paper yesterday so €1.40 saved Smile
Tayto I asked dh not to buy anything for Mother's Day also as I know he can't afford it, he also had cost of my birthday & Valentines (another one I wish he'd stop wasting money on) recently. So he's insisting we eat lunch out instead. I'd prefer him not to be spending money he can't afford, he speaks about making room on credit card for purchases as in getting below limit enough to spend again rather than my goal of clearing mineSad we don't have a joint one so I can only hope he'll see the light eventually

Oh cag wow CakeFlowers don't think that was in your plan for this year, a Christmas frugaleers baby Smile they say you'll never regret the child you have only the one you didn't for those debating another child Smile

Lonely well done on your cycle 🚲
I did my 10K yesterday in beautiful weather - 1 hr 16 mins I think (times not published yet & I was near back starting off & started my app a bit early.

We've a new big Lidl too need I did a shop there & I don't like it so Aldi it is for me 💯 %
Lidl bakery cookies are amazing SmileBiscuit
Lonely great positives for cag there too Grin

Em it won't be me anyhow dh had snip last year Grin overshare/TMI Grin

Need apparently Lidl have skyr yogurts, they sell quickly so never in stock when I'm in. Their toilet roll with pink flowers on it is brilliant & was the only one we bought for years but au pair could go through 3/4 rolls a day Confused & it's too expensive to keep up with that demand by comparison we used 3 rolls per week until she arrived, ds also trained but he only uses toilet roll for #2's so can't have increased consumption by much & it goes down massively when she's not around BlushShock
Their massive jars of olives are good value too, they're a special item though so not always in stock

Meadow what age are the kids?
Volunteering as often as you do is brilliant well done to you & your dh. You're young your time for dc will come

My spends today were €1.90 toll & €45.45 on a fabulous lunch out after my race. Got a long sleeved tec top & a medal & some earplugs Confused in our race pack, there were some vouchers to use locally but I don't live there.
We went to two brilliant playgrounds with dc & i got a little red from the sun. Then in evening we went to see Evita, my birthday present from dh & spent €40 on babysitting. Dh bought us pulled pork fries from abra €10 paid a toll & €2 parking. Not sure what he spent on icecream for dc while I was running

Cag would it not be better for council to know because they'd need to rehouse you guys in 2 years again & they might just make allowances to avoid that Hmm

First pregnancy I didn't wear maternity clothes until the last 6 weeks when I went up two shoe sizes also, I just got stretchy primark stuff & smock type tops up to then. Second pregnancy I was in them by 10/12 weeks, at least I got wear out of them then cos dd came 2 weeks early so my maternity wear got only 1 month wear.

Meadow could you buy some jigsaws or Lego at charity shop?

My dc woke up early too wreck I'm mumsnetting in ds's bed & reading a children's ebook alternately, dh is lying in because he's wrecked from early starts at work.
Next week he goes back into a week of nights/week of days for a month. I love this pattern as he's off every Sat & I think he could get more rest if he worked it properly. He doesn't though he thinks he can do jobs outside all day & go to work all night.

Wreck how long until your trip? Are you getting excited about new job yet or will that only set in when you come back?

Strawberry good luck with interview
Em food looks fab I definitely think food eaten has a correlation on baby's tastes as they grow anyhow. I ate healthily in dds pregnancy, not quite as much in ds's as I felt so sick & he has a much sweeter tooth than she does. They also both love pasta cheese & yogurts like their mammy

ememem84 · 26/03/2017 09:34

mammy I'll tick you off my list then!! Haha Grin

collie can't put a price on safety.

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/03/2017 09:50

Tick me off to em. No babies here couldn't cope mentally or physically. Ain't happening.

Cagliostro · 26/03/2017 09:54

Thanks Mammy! Nope was definitely, definitely not on the plans 😂😳 but I agree, no regrets. Will be a struggle, no denying that, but we will manage, and the love in the Cag house will just expand. 😊

I will tell the council but I'm not expecting it to make any difference, it actually wouldn't until the baby is 10 I think going by current rules for sharing rooms (or maybe even not at all because it will be the same sex as one of the Caglets anyway!). I know someone who was housed about 24 years ago when they'd had their first baby, they were allocated a 3 bed because it was expected that they would have more babies in future! It's hard to believe that ever happened now, there is just too much immediate need for them to forward plan anymore.

Besides I think maybe they are trying to counteract the whole horrible stereotype - "you got pregnant for a council house" type thing. I'm kind of regretting being so open with people now about our housing issues as I know we will get epically judged for this TBH. 😳😞 I hate the idea of people thinking we did this on purpose when it couldn't be further from the truth! I need to practice my "not giving a shit what other people think" face.

Should be a NSD

Lots more washing and washing hanging out today. I spend my life doing laundry! Looks like it's going to be a lovely day. Kids loved being in the garden yesterday and only screamed at each other about 20% of the time Smile

WreckTangled · 26/03/2017 09:59

mammy a week today! I'm stressed about the new job as I start the day after we get back 😳😭

cag don't worry about others. Also meant to say at my surgery we would book you straight in with the midwife, same as where I'm registered.

mammymammyIRL · 26/03/2017 10:00

Cag people who think like that aren't friends of yours & their opinions don't matter

Bacon I've only one wash left Grin

mammymammyIRL · 26/03/2017 10:01

Wreck how exciting

ChristmasSeacow · 26/03/2017 10:24

Morning all!

I am just waiting for my breakfast in bed. DH has never ever made me breakfast in the whole time we've been together (can't cook) so this will be interesting. Yesterday I gave him instructions on boiling an egg (toast he can manage). I await the results with interest!

allthebestplease · 26/03/2017 10:45

collie there's an interesting thread on money about pensions, its worth a read. I opened a sipp with HL.
Lovely weather, may go for a walk today to avoid spending money.

Cagliostro · 26/03/2017 10:55

I remember learning to boil an egg on wikihow 😂😳 they do come out perfect every time though. I used to tell Siri to count down four minutes as soon as the water started boiling.

I must be feeling weird, I just asked for a cup of tea! I barely ever drink tea.

Will pop into town later with the Caglets (DH is working), stretch my legs and pick up a few bits in the supermarket, nice fruit and nausea friendly stuff for when it's worst (now I know why I'm feeling sick I feel more justified in getting twiglets and ginger snaps). I also need lettuce so I can make a fish finger sandwich (that's em's fault :o). Park too if the weather is decent. I am very aware it's even more important this time not to just stay in all the time no matter how sick/achy I'm feeling. I can't risk getting even more unfit than I already am! At the same time the last few weeks have been such a struggle 🙄

Need to phone mum too as it's Mother's Day, but also need to decide if I tell her or not!

Sorry I know I'm harping on. I'll get over myself soon once the shock wears off 😂😳

Where's Sunny?

OP posts:
ChristmasSeacow · 26/03/2017 11:02

Eggs were eggscellent. DH forgot to cut the slices of toast in half but that was the only small thing. I've told him he can learn something else now! He was thrilled.

Breakfast was lovely because DS got into bed next to me and sang songs. And for the first time ever he managed to write 'mummy' and my name in my card himself. I am feeling very happy today Smile.

ChristmasSeacow · 26/03/2017 11:03

*his name. I don't have a name other than
mummy, as far as DS is concerned Wink
