Who fancies a No Spend Day thread (like MSE forum's) ?

I prefer MN to MSE but would like to do some NSDs in January. Anyone else interested in doing a support thread ? this is the idea

I have a shocking spending habit and i really, really need to curb it. So I am going to have a goal of 10 NSDs in January and aim to manage 3 in a row. That would be a massive achievement for me.

Diary I bought yesterday is missing 3 months in the middle! Pfft.

I won't bring it back today, if I go into town I'll spend other money so I'll leave it till Friday. Hoping for a NSD today - DC are on holiday with their nan so I'll use the chance to tidy the house.

Shinyshoes1 · 02/01/2013 10:28

My first nsd completed yesterday hurrah!

Am trying for my second nsd today I will let you know how it goes

lorisparkle · 02/01/2013 10:29

well today car in to garage and tesco arriving soon so it is still 1 down 14 to go.

PolkadotCircus · 02/01/2013 10:48

Going to have turkey jambalaya with the last of the frozen turkey tonight, mac cheese tomorrow, fish fingers Friday, homemade pizza Sat along with the rest of the frozen veg.If I can just eek out the cupboards Sunday(lebkuchen pie anyone)then I'll be v chuffed with myself.Kids won't melt if they're banana less-they can work theirselves through the clementine mountain mouldering away in the lounge!!!!!

Washing powder could be the only fly in the ointment but all the school stuff is washed and ironed so it won't hurt us to make do.

paneer · 02/01/2013 10:52

I am going to try this.

Yesterday was a NSD, and I think today as well as I am working. I hope tomorrow too!

TheHappyCamper · 02/01/2013 10:58

Ooo can I join you all please?

DH and I have decided to try and have a no spend january as far as possible. Our cupoards and ches freezer are full to bursting (in case we got snowed in over xmas ha ha!) so we are only going to spend money on: fruit, veg, read and milk. I work full time and take packed lunches anyway so that should be easy.

So, I'll go for 10 NSDs but in reality hoping for more.

Didn't spend anything yesterday - went for a lovely long free walk and resisted the urge to take dd for a hot choc!

So, 1/10 so far Smile

PolkadotCircus · 02/01/2013 11:11

Just found some jacket pots so that's Sun sorted.Going to make choc/banana cake with the decaying choc santas and black bananas-fruit sorted!!!!!

mum23girlys · 02/01/2013 11:22

Hi, can I join too? Me and dh had talked about doing this in the new year so hoping following this thread will help.

Aiming for 3 nsd's a week as we are super skint and want to try and stop having no money left by week 2! We always set budget but then something always comes up. Another thing we're guilty of is if we have a flush month where overtime has been plentiful then we just end up spending it all rather than sticking to our budget and leaving money in the bank for the lean months and other expenses like mot's etc.

So yesterday was nsd and hoping for today too. So 1/12

wools · 02/01/2013 12:06

Well, a good start. Managed to spend absolutely nothing yesterday and won't be spending anything today either. I'll need to do a food top up tomorrow and will need to top up with petrol before the end of the week!!

today is back on track as the dentist couldn't fit me in until tomorrow.

so here's to NSD no.1

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 02/01/2013 13:36

2 no spend days so far. Tomorrow I've promised the dds a trip to the cinema but they got £50 each birthday cash from aunties/ grannies and they are going to pay for a change with sweeties from the Selection Tin of Doom instead of pick and mix! Might be a bit stingy but I don't care really!

I guess I'll just have a couple of quid parking in town

ConfusedPixie · 02/01/2013 13:40

Bought some loo roll today as housemate seems to have destroyed 4 rolls of it in the four days he's been here alone Hmm Going to sort out other spending now so that tomorrow and Friday can be NSDs :)

babyicebean · 02/01/2013 13:46

Can I join in please - am aiming for 15 days

Managed the first yesterday and am halfway to day 2

QuinnFabray · 02/01/2013 13:50

Today will be my first no spend day. Haven't really got a goal, but 10 seems doable. 1/10

TinyDiamond · 02/01/2013 13:51

I'm in too. tomorrow and today already NSDs. yes!

flossy101 · 02/01/2013 14:15

Another NSD here for me, was supposed to be meeting a friend for coffee, but DS unwell so have stayed home. DH back to work today, sent him off with a packed lunch so no spend for him today either.

2/10

Shinyshoes1 · 02/01/2013 14:47

Ran out of milk so sent ds2 to the shops for some so that's my nsd out of the window.

1/15

TinyDiamond · 02/01/2013 15:38

I'm aiming for 15 BTW so I'm 2/15. I like seeing it written down like that. its going to be hard as today have enough for tonight's dinner/tomorrow's lunch in fridge+veg. then tomorrow breakfast and dinner from freezer. after that..... will be much harder eek.I also have a cheque and some cash to pay into bank but I will need to spend the bus fare to go and do that

TinyDiamond · 02/01/2013 15:41

I just, whilst I was typing that last comment just made £200 on eBay. I think you lot are bringing me luck :-)

FleeBee · 02/01/2013 17:32

I didn't spend anything yesterday. But now I have a dilemma. On Boxing Day I ordered stuff in the Next Sale on my mum's account - As Boxing Day is my birthday! As nothing had arrived my mum called & no ordered registered. Did it all online! So I've reordered. Technically it is spend from Boxing Day & it's also my birthday present so does that count as a NSD or not?
I'm definitely 1/10 as spent Nothing on 1st

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 02/01/2013 18:00

Right I,m stil at 1/10 due to a drop in at sainsburys I needed only passata and a curry sauce, however I csme out with a 2.2kg gammon joint for a fiver instead of £10 dated 15th Jan, also the bedlinen was half price, I was planning to replace some old sheets at the end of the month so really I will have saved as it was a necessary spend. ([Blush] at state of old faded bedding)

ComradeJing · 02/01/2013 18:20

Yay! First NSD for me. Going into the city tomorrow which will be a spend day.

1/15

hurricanewyn · 02/01/2013 18:41

Ok 1/10 for me today. Hoping for number 2 tomorrow.

MirandaWest · 02/01/2013 18:50

I used an Amazon gift certificate today so I don't feel that counted Grin
