Who fancies a No Spend Day thread (like MSE forum's) ?

OhDearNigel · 31/12/2012 13:27

I prefer MN to MSE but would like to do some NSDs in January. Anyone else interested in doing a support thread ? this is the idea

I have a shocking spending habit and i really, really need to curb it. So I am going to have a goal of 10 NSDs in January and aim to manage 3 in a row. That would be a massive achievement for me.

I've done a NSD today!

Went to a New Year's Day party and re gifted a nice bottle of wine. Me and DH doing no booze January so should help save a little too.

1/10 so far!

ComradeJing · 01/01/2013 18:18

Tyaca I think a list of targets is a great idea.

0/15

snozzlemaid · 01/01/2013 18:21

I'll join you. Think I'll aim for 10 as well and will not include direct debits.
Spent the day in having a massive post Christmas tidy up so today's my first NSD.

lorisparkle · 01/01/2013 18:23

I like your idea booyhoo, I really struggled with ds3 when I tried the monthly shop but I have invested in the tesco pre pay delivery so can get a big shop delivered once a month and lots of tiny shops whenever I need them. we don't have room for a chest freezer but do have two fridge freezers so it might just work.Smile

bigkidsdidit · 01/01/2013 18:30

I've made it today :)

Need some maternity jeans and a new pair of shoes for work so will get them tomorrow

Exogenesis · 01/01/2013 18:36

I'll join Grin I think I will start at 10 and work from there. Did a NSD today sooooo only 9 more to go Grin

TeWisBeenNargledByTheMistletoe · 01/01/2013 18:43

NSD today! DH has joined in and told me he successfully swerved the shop today, I'm going tomorrow - DDs are going out, and I'm only buying what's on the list!

1/15

OWe3WiseKneeHairsOfOrientAre · 01/01/2013 19:38

Can I join?
I'll aim for 10. Not succeeded today as I bought a coffee at work and something off Amazon.
I rarely physically buy anything apart from food and coffee, but online shopping is my downfall.
Maybe I should take the one- click capability off my Amazon app!

Booyhoo · 01/01/2013 19:43

ooh forgot to say. i didn't go out today so no spending and as it's a bank holiday all my DDs and SOs will go tomorrow although, i'm not sure if i'm supposed to be counting those as they are unavoidable spends aren't they?

so 1/20 for me Smile

QuinnFabray · 01/01/2013 19:49

Marking my place.

ReinDearPrudence · 01/01/2013 19:51

Not heard of these before, but it's a great idea. We nearly had one today, but we stopped for coffee during a walk.

Levantine · 01/01/2013 20:05

I'be done one! Park and party for which I had already bought a bottle of wine

lorisparkle · 01/01/2013 20:16

day 1 successfully achieved. only 14 to go!

ConfusedPixie · 01/01/2013 20:23

0/10, as amazing as my eco astra is, it can't get from Brightlingsea to Brighton on the red lines so we needed to fill up.

DP also bought some chips from Pease Pottage services for us, which goes against the "Food from home only for the entirety of January" challenge we had set ourselves Hmm Apparently that rule doesn't count on motorways HmmHmm So whilst I didn't personally spend today, both the car and the chips benefit me so I'm counting them!

OhDearNigel · 01/01/2013 20:26

Nearly 8.30pm and unless I buy something on the internet I have managed a whole day off on my own with DD without going into town, ordering a takeaway or buying something online.

Going to go for another day tomorrow as I'm back at work and will have the temptation to buy lunch from tesco express....going to make a packed lunch and actually eat it !

I'd like to try this as we're trying to concentrate on saving this year. I'll aim for 10, not including direct debits although it seems like a difficult aim at the moment. I seem to end up needing to top up with something most days. Today I've bought bread, milk, eggs and several books so will aim for a NSD tomorrow.

ThermalMittens · 01/01/2013 20:38

How bad is it that ten NSDs sounds like a lot? I'm a terrible frittererer...

Thermal, you are among friends. How about trying 5 ?

OP posts:
OhDearNigel · 01/01/2013 20:47

sorry, pressed send too soon !

5 NSDs would give you one NSD per week as there are 5 weeks this month. Does that sound doable ?

OP posts:
PersuedByPenguins · 01/01/2013 21:08

1/10 done! In fact I am in credit as I have just changed holiday plans (previously booked) and saved £100 in the process Grin I will be spending tomorrow however, as I have to pay for slimming group (might even pay 6 in advance as I think you get 1 free if you do that) and buy a bottle of something which would appeal to a 21 year old (anybody know of any bargains?)

OhDearNigel · 01/01/2013 21:10

Shots are popular with that age group - what supermarkets do you have near you ?

OP posts:
OhDearNigel · 01/01/2013 21:14

2 for £8 bargain at Asda

Is it for a female or male ? Jagermeister is really popular at the moment, as are Sourzz, tequila, flavoured schnapps. Anything you can drink as a shot really !

OP posts:
OhDearNigel · 01/01/2013 21:15

bugger, it didn't do the link properly - it's a deal on "Sidekick" - cream liqueur in a variety of flavours
