Who fancies a No Spend Day thread (like MSE forum's) ?

OhDearNigel · 31/12/2012 13:27

I prefer MN to MSE but would like to do some NSDs in January. Anyone else interested in doing a support thread ? this is the idea

I have a shocking spending habit and i really, really need to curb it. So I am going to have a goal of 10 NSDs in January and aim to manage 3 in a row. That would be a massive achievement for me.

I did another -2/10! Might aim for 15 at this rate

theowlworrier · 02/01/2013 20:12

ooh! Can I join in?? Have only just found this thread, so haven't had any yet, but I love the idea. We are really trying to save a lot of money in the next 6 months...!

citybranch · 02/01/2013 20:36

I'm still on 1/10. Took the DCs to Kids AM at the cinema (£9 for 3 of us) and then spent £11 in Waitrose mainly on reduced bargains...a very large Xmas ham was £30 now £5! Will be great for sandwiches for work. Also got rolls, bread and scones at 10p a pack, and two bottles of beer at 50p each.

So although it was a spend day i'm pleased with the value for money I got overall. Aiming for a NSD tomorrow!

TeWiSavesTheDay · 02/01/2013 20:41

I've namechanged just to confuse you Nigel Wink (i'm still TeWi)

None today, bills have gone out and did a top up shop (only 4 things and stuck to list!)

Still 1/10

mum23girlys · 02/01/2013 20:52

Thanks for adding me to the list ohdearNigel :-)

Managed a second nsd today. Unfortunately will need to spend tomorrow as we're low on bread and milk. Also needing fuel as sadly had a family loss today so will need to go visiting my dh's aunt tomorrow.

2/12

greensnail · 02/01/2013 21:20

Hooray I've managed my first NSD today so I'm 1/10. It was my dds who kept me on the straight and narrow as I sorted out a load of stuff for the charity shop and was going to take it into town, which would have meant at least paying for parking, but they didn't want to go out so we stayed at home instead.

Tomorrow I will need bread and milk as well as a bus ticket to get to my friend's house. Friday I have an internet shop arriving and will need to take dd1 out to choose a cake and a few other bits for her birthday party so will aim for my next NSD on saturday.

androbbob · 02/01/2013 21:36

Hooray here also! Managed another NSD mainly as was back in work and it piddled down all day so not inclined to go out of work at lunchtime! Went to the gym after work as well and then home for tea.

Will be a spend day tomorrow as need to get a birthday card and present for saturday. Will either get today or tomorrow.

Now on 2/10 NSD! Onwards and upwards!! Probably saved spending £8 to £10 on crap over the two days. Should put it in the savings acc really, but seeing as I am skint after Christmas, I could be putting my overdraft into savings, which is not the idea!!

GW297 · 02/01/2013 22:22

I've managed 2 as well now. Very pleased! Hope I can keep it up!

WiseKneeHair · 02/01/2013 22:28

I've name changed back from m Christmas name just to confuse ohnigel
Unfortunately, still on 0/10 as had to go on a 230 mile round trip to a funeral today. Did make a packed lunch to take with me though.
Oh, just remembered, wouldn't have been a NSD anyway as the I turner shop came. That does mean we have lots of food in now, so aiming for NSD for tomorrow and Friday.

Well done those who are on 2 already.

WiseKneeHair · 02/01/2013 22:29

I turner shop?
Internet shop maybe. Grin

VestaCurry · 02/01/2013 22:36

Spent today, but planned so 1/2 for me, 9 left to achieve by end of month.

babyicebean · 02/01/2013 22:55

Managed another day so its 2/15 - hopefully tomorrow will be another as need to start a costume for next weekend but friday may well be a spend day as will have to go and get lining for the skirt as its more see-through than i though

Billybubbles · 03/01/2013 00:07

Please can I hop on board-I have only just seen this thread? I desperately need to clear approx 5000 pounds of debt so I am in for 10 NSD 'S a month please. I have to do a food shop tomorrow in Aldi and get some stuff in the chemist but after that I'm up for my first NSD.
Put me on the list please nigel if its not too lateSmile.

Living · 03/01/2013 06:22

Ok yesterday was very much not a NSD - improntu trip out for dinner probably against the whole ethos :) So I'm still 1/10.

I had to pay nursery fees this morning and am away tomorrow-Sunday with associated cab fares so really no hope of another NSD until 7 Jan :(

Good news is the weekly shop came to £70. Probably sounds like a lot to people on here but for us that's very good (and we're not in the UK).

insancerre · 03/01/2013 08:55

Yesterday was a NSD too.
2/10

Managed it yesterday, so 1/10 down! No chance today, run out of milk, fruit, veg...plenty of chocolate and onion ring crisps in the house though!

2Old2BeABluePeterPresenter · 03/01/2013 10:08

NSD for me yesterday so that's 2/10 so far. Today will not be one, I have to go to to town so it'll be lunch and coffee most likely!

hurricanewyn · 03/01/2013 10:55

Another NSD planned here today, will update later (if I announce my intentions on here, I have to see them through).
MIL's cheque for Christmas presents has cleared so have £50 to spend Grin

Torn between a haircut (haven't had one since October 2011 and def need one) & eyebrow wax, maybe a coffee out if there's change, or being a grown up and buying the slow cooker & electric knife I need badly.

Hmm...

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 03/01/2013 11:01

Trying for nsd 2/10 today got loads of cleaning to do so not going anywhere, everyone keep up the good work.

PolkadotCircus · 03/01/2013 14:22

Caved today.Went on a long, muddy (free) walk with friends, all of us covered in mud so popped into the Co-op for washing powder (couldn't face the small mountain of muddy clothes sitting there past today)and a couple of things that will see us through to Monday.

Kids sending their thank you letters tomorrow so will need to buy stamps,dp will need to get petrol so I'm 2/10 so far but will hopefully get another 2 under my belt Sat and Sun.

Going to do a weeks shop Monday and will see how far we get the following week, will be interesting.

wools · 03/01/2013 14:39

I managed another NSD yesterday so 2/10 so far. I had to do a food shop today but hoping Friday, Saturday and Sunday will all be good days for me.

flossy101 · 03/01/2013 16:01

Still on 2/10 as spent today.

£1.50 for baby group
£1.00 for coffee after group
£9.65 in tesco on veg and Victoria sponge

TheHappyCamper · 03/01/2013 16:17

I am now on 2/10 NSDs. Yesterday was a failure as we had friends coming today so bought a large piece of beef (half price but still £10!) and a few other bargains at Sainsburys which totalled £33, then ordered a photobook of all our xmas pics (£14!) last night Blush.

No spends today so far, as our friends stayed all day and the kids played, and I am now very tired so will watch a film in bed and have an early night.

Does anyone else have a really bad internet shopping habit? I'm so bad on an evening on ebay/amazon etc Blush.

Keep up the good work everyone. Well done!
