How is covid presenting now?

Hi all,

Just wondering how covid is presenting now? Is there any respiratory symptoms / breathlessness with this strain?

@Catswillbecats I hope you feel better soon. My old dog just wandered into my bedroom to see me and I started crying at how old he is ( he hasn’t changed in the few days I have been positive). It is evening here so I went and sat in the sun and feel a bit better now. The sadness feels like day 3/4 after childbirth - I hope it passes soon - it is very unusual for me 😢

severe body aches
Exhaustion

Did you all immediately test positive on an lft?

All four of us have had symptoms many of you describe:

Crushing headache
Fatigue
Loss of appetite
Runny nose but only slight cough
Muscle pains and aching joints

I had it back in 2022 and this time its milder, but there are similarities. Back then I didn't test positive until day 3. I tested around the same time this time ad it was negative but admittedly haven't tested again.

I know other viruses are available, but it's the way it's gone through all of us within days (unlike a normal cold) which makes me wonder.

Took 4 days to test positive even though I had full blown symptoms by then.

Interesting, @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor .
I started with a runny nose on new years eve and still feel exhausted now. Dh is coughing downstairs as I type.
Doesn't make much of a difference in the overall scheme of things as we've kept away from people anyway by being stuck to the sofa. But I'm just curious.

familyissues12345 · 05/01/2024 08:25

I had it just before Christmas - fever and very sleepy for 24 hours, followed by cold symptoms for 3 days

DH had it at the same time - no fever for him, but he had cold symptoms for at least a week - took him much longer to test negative than me

NoisyDachshunddd · 05/01/2024 08:37

Cold symptoms plus really weird intense chest pain on breathing in for a day or so.

i also had the runs and insomnia but that was pretty much it.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 05/01/2024 08:50

Day one sore throat
Day two runny nose
Day 3 nose worse sneezing by eveining shivers aching hips and legs
Day 4 hacking cough
Day five cough easing
Day 6 feeling better

That was mine and my husbands tho hr didn't get the aches

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/01/2024 08:51

I tested Xmas Eve, after doing a night shift. Felt off but didn't think I would get a positive, then it went down hill from then.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/01/2024 09:02

Interesting posters talking about experiencing insomnia, I found that the worst thing, couldn't sleep at all, maybe an hour a night but no energy to do anything else even watch telly as my eyes hurt. It was like I'd drunk 30 cups of espresso and another a couple of lines of coke, completely wired!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/01/2024 09:03

Actually loss of taste and smell was the worst,it lasted ages too.

Noshowlomo · 05/01/2024 09:04

Cough, really fuzzy head and feel run down and no taste/smell although it’s coming back quicker than the first time.
I was negative 3 days ago but still exhausted

Noshowlomo · 05/01/2024 09:13

Oh and just feeling down, blue and teary. Spent most of yesterday crying

rainbowstardrops · 05/01/2024 09:31

DH and DD tested positive on Wednesday. Both coughing loads (DH has been coughing/snotty for days and only tested because we did), snotty, aching etc. Me and DS's girlfriend tested positive yesterday. She feels like she's been hit by a bus. I've had sore throat, very snotty today but constant headache. DS is still somehow testing negative, even though he has a sore throat???
When me, DH and DD had Covid back during the pandemic, DS escaped it then too!!!
Oh and DS, DD and girlfriend were also sick this time too.

Strangely on the Monday I was fine. No symptoms at all. Was out shopping all day.
Tuesday woke up feeling like death.
My daughter made me do a test, and it was positive.
Tuesday I did a test again and it was negative as it was Wednesday and Thursday however my symptoms were getting worse and worse!

By Saturday I felt I was turning a corner (still negative)

Husband then caught it and tested positive for two days although again got worse once tests were negative.

Daughter then caught it....all identical symptoms however she never tested positive at all!

All brand new LFTs too!

We tested as have very elderly immune suppressed parents one of which was in hospital.

Letsnotargue · 05/01/2024 09:39

I’m on day 4, OH probably day 6 but he didn’t test until I did.

We’ve had completely different
symptoms - he’s been congested, coughing, difficulty sleeping. I’ve had the muscle and joint aches, upset stomach, headache and terrible sore throat. We’ve both had really sore sinuses.

First time I’ve had it and it almost feels like a different illness every day!

oOiluvfriendsOo · 05/01/2024 09:53

Ds2 had been unwell for days with bad cold like symptoms. Very runny nose, cough and headache.
Ds1 then became unwell, sore chest when breathing in and a cough and headache.

Both tested negative.

On day 3 of them feeling ill my nose began to run constantly. Next day I went to work, nose still running like a tap and sneezing, began to feel rough with it too. Took a test and was positive.
Only other symptoms have been chills and fever.

Both boys still negative.

Daisies12 · 05/01/2024 09:54

Who cares? No one tests anymore.

You do when your mother has a rare type of blood cancer and will be taking chemo tablets for the rest of her life.

Menomeno · 05/01/2024 10:19

We had it all over Christmas. I had

  • Severe aching all over. Even my tongue and eyeballs ached! 60mg of cocodamol didn’t even touch it
  • nausea
  • Bad headache
  • head cold/snotty/blocked sinuses
  • sore throat (only bad for a day or two)
  • no cough or breathing problems
  • exhaustion
  • high temperature/feeling freezing cold

I was in bed for five days, didn’t eat or wash. Crawling to the loo. Then another 3 or four days between bed and the sofa. This one was by far the worst yet. It’s been three weeks now and I still feel completely wiped out. DH was floored by it too, and he’s never ill.

Snozwanger · 05/01/2024 10:22

For me, a terrible headache and like a really bad head cold, runny nose, congestion and after the headaches stopped, still congested for a week after. Four weeks on and I now have a terrible thickly cough. Not sure if it's related though.

youngerself · 05/01/2024 10:23

V runny nose
Body aches
Sore in eyes
V tired
Not much of a cough - only coughing as nose secretions so voluminous
Day 4 of lying in bed

Blarn · 05/01/2024 10:25

We were ill a couple of months ago and although didn't test, dh worked with some people who did test positive. We had a bit of a cold but dh felt very achey and had a lot more congestion than me. Like the first time we had covid in 2020 we both had that awful tiredness again and that lasted weeks.

I still get the heavy chest feeling from the first bout of covid but can't say that got any worse.

CrapBucket · 05/01/2024 10:27

Sneezing, snotty, fever, ACHING everywhere, tired and crying at anyone being nice to me. Mentally dopey, eg can’t write in proper sentences.
