I just tested positive.

Had to cancel meeting with a friend tonight and dscs no longer coming for their planned weekend which is a shame.

Me! This is my third infection. I caught it twice in 2022, both times it was really mild. I've had all the jabs and boosters I've been offered, but I'm too young for a booster this autumn, and now I've just tested positive again (well, yesterday).

I'm feeling much more ill this time round. I've had a high fever, an awful cough, all the aching limbs, runny nose, sore throat stuff. For the first time I've lost my sense of smell too.

My whole week is now cancelled, and I'm dreading dh getting it. He's not a good patient.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 06/12/2023 09:53

I've got a tickly cough and slightly drippy nose but feel fine apart from that. I've had the cough for weeks on and off so I've put it down to the heating being on and the air being dry but it definitely seems worse. I'm currently on holiday so have no tests so I'm just going to have to be careful - still go out for walks but give the restaurants a miss.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 06/12/2023 12:10

Me. DH has it too and he's been really poorly in bed for 5 days. I had a temperature the 1st night but now just have a slightly snuffly nose and my throat feels a bit scratchy. I certainly don't feel poorly at all, and no cough touch wood. When we had it 2 years ago it knocked us both sideways for about 6 weeks.

We run our own business and I'm desperate to go back in so I'm praying for a negative today even though my positive was incredibly faint yesterday and today.

@ChateauProvence Can I ask if this is because you're at a particular risk? Just wondering as I am 28+5 and was just told to take paracetamol.

JemimaFuddle · 08/12/2023 17:05

I tested negative on Wednesday, I thought I had updated but obviously not.

I hope you all feel better soon.

Me.

It's my first time as I far as I know and I feel awful.
Did anyone get a lump in their chest feeling? Like there is food stuck? It's there all the time and making me feel sick.

ChateauProvence · 08/12/2023 17:13

@MrsW9 Hi no I don’t think so I have had a very low risk pregnancy and no other health conditions so not sure why. I wasn’t well enough to question it tbh they just said as a precaution due to Covid and pregnancy increasing the risk of blood clots

Tinkerbellflowers · 08/12/2023 18:49

10 days and still positive 😷

Hopingforblueskies · 08/12/2023 19:52

This is my third time
tested as felt a bit off with irritable cough and knee it felt like befure
I work with the public and morally couldn’t not test
as I started to feel odd on Wednesday hoping by Monday I’ll be testing negative / anyone had a swift negative test ? Lots of plans from Thursday next week !

SpringPen · 08/12/2023 20:58

Me, and very fed up. Also got plans coming up the weekend after this one that I've been looking forward to for a long time. Really hoping for negative test quickly but took 11 days last time. Bloody COVID.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 08/12/2023 21:24

Well that bit me on the arse for saying I wasn't too poorly - felt like I've been run over by a truck yesterday and today. Missed out on our work christmas party tonight, have got so much to do for work I could cry, and haven't started any christmas shopping. DH still sounds horrendous as well. Am very seriously pissed off tonight.

SpringPen · 08/12/2023 21:53

@SkyFullofStars1975 same here. Much worse than when I had it in Apr 22. Feel pretty run over by a truck, as you say. Hurt everywhere, awful cough, high temp. It absolutely sucks. Hope yours will be short-lived.

MillarMountVandal · 08/12/2023 22:41

Hope everyone feels better soon 🤞

Fwiw I felt like I'd been sent for on days 3 and 4 - really, really awful. BUT I rallied mega quickly, and was testing neg by day 7.

Hopingforblueskies · 08/12/2023 23:12

I am right in thinking now though no need to test again after day 5 of you are feeling better ? I’ve heard could take a good while to get a negative test

flumposie · 08/12/2023 23:35

Me. This is my third time since July 2022 , last bout was in March. Worst part is having to send work in for my classes whilst feeling dizzy.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 09/12/2023 08:38

Work colleague took 13 days to get a negative so I'm not bothering to check. Will be back at work Monday as I feel an awful lot better this morning thankfully.

Hopingforblueskies · 09/12/2023 09:45

@SkyFullofStars1975 i think that exactly right you go back when you feel better even old guidance was after 5 days not really contagious and we never used to test to release could take weeks !! And im very cautious

MissFizzyPop · 09/12/2023 12:35

I've got it, I think this is my third time...
Started feeling off last Saturday but Tuesday, Weds and Thurs I was wiped out.
Feeling better now but still testing positive so not sure whether I should be staying away from people still?

Hewenttochurch · 09/12/2023 12:47

CityLass · 03/12/2023 14:50

And this is why the pandemic will not end. Each time you’re infected, you are literally depleting your immunity. You are walking blindfolded into the abyss. It’s just a matter of time sadly.

The abyss?? Farking heck!

Adarajames · 09/12/2023 13:16

Just got over it.

First time I’ve had it despite living with others when they tested positive and volunteering at vaccine clinics for months. Had 3 lots vaccine, due booster that couldn’t get as was ill.

Scratchy throat on the weekend, cold like on Monday, Tuesday morning everything hurt like I’d been trampled by a herd of elephants and even huge amounts of multiple painkillers couldn’t control it.
Tested from a stash of tests from when were free, darkest positive line going so no question about it!

As I’d logged my result I was offered place on research trial which meant got anti viral meds which wouldn’t normally qualify for; and I’m very glad as I suspect I’d’ve been far ill for far longer without them, going by how awful I felt until I started them.

Thankful it’s cleared and done before Christmas as volunteer at Crisis and would hate to have to drop out.

I’m pretty sure I caught it from someone at choir as not been near anyone other than that, always said going to church wasn’t good for your health! 😉😆

SpringPen · 09/12/2023 13:57

The information out there is irritating. Yes, the guidance is 5 days avoiding contact (although you don't have to) but then the information is also clear that, whilst most people are no longer contagious after 5 days, some will be contagious for up to 10 days (and some immunocompromised people for even longer). Other information suggests that if a test is positive, you're still shedding enough virus to be contagious. I don't know anyone who has tested negative after only 5 days. So which is it? Is the majority not contagious after 5 days, regardless of a positive test? It's so confusing. I'm currently positive - had symptoms since Tues/Weds but didn't test positive til last night. Have an event I would like to attend a week today. According to guidance, I should be fine to go if feeling better as my five days will be up on Tuesday next week. However, the event will be attended by plenty of people over 65, not to mention that I could spoil someone's Christmas if I pass it on at that point. So do I go with the guidance and consider myself fine after 5 days with no more testing or do I test again next Saturday and if still positive, not attend? I just want to know if I will still be contagion then if I have a positive test. There isn't enough clarity.

JemimaFuddle · 09/12/2023 14:55

@SpringPen I think there's a really good chance you'll be negative in a weeks time.

OP posts:
TeaWithASplashOfMilk · 09/12/2023 15:05

@SpringPen it is frustrating. It used to be that around 33% were no longer positive within five days. I assume the five day figure was from when you could test to release and it then became a 'more people might isolate if it's only five days' type thing. I thought LFTs only pick up if you're still positive and contagious, but PCR could pick up for longer. I don't know how many are positive within five days anymore or if that's changed that much - this push to pretend covid isn't still having a large impact and lack of decent messaging/info is a real PITA for those who want to try not to spread it.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 09/12/2023 15:37

I've just tested positive today with the 1st test. Been ill since Monday 🙁
