I just tested positive.

Had to cancel meeting with a friend tonight and dscs no longer coming for their planned weekend which is a shame.

Me - tested positive for the very first time yesterday afternoon and feeling absolutely horrendous. I think DS might have brought it in but all he's had is a runny nose.

iknowwhymummysporridgewascold · 12/12/2023 06:26

I've had my booster though so I guess I should be grateful it's not worse (I'm not grateful at this particular moment though!)

No idea - didn't know people were still testing? Are people's employers OK with them taking time off following a positive test?

Depends on the employer. Some want to protect their staff, employees and customers - some don't. Taxpayer subsidises. Some want to pay staff a living wage, some don't - taxpayer subsidises. Some content to take the risk of long term disability with their staff, some aren't - taxpayer subsidises. Clean air in parliament, ministry of defence buildings etc to reduce viral spread - taxpayer subsidises. Honest messaging on impacts of covid - taxpayer subsidises. Lack of messaging - taxpayer subsidises.

Mine actively encourages us to stay away from the office and only work from home if we feel up to it. They'd rather we took the time we need to recover than struggle into into the office and spread it to everyone else. Seems like common sense to me.

We aren't allowed into work if we knowingly have covid. Our employer wants us to rest up, get better, and not spread it. I know we are very lucky.

Day 6 here. God this is awful. I am so dizzy. That's my worst symptom. Every time I fall asleep I'm having dreadful nightmares. Sore head, sore throat, blocked sinuses, sore ears, a wee bit of nausea. Temp not too bad - 38 but comes down with paracetamol. I cannot believe how many packets of medication I have taken.

JemimaFuddle · 12/12/2023 11:46

I got nightmares too @stargirl1701

I wanted to go back to work yesterday, but I'm absolutely floored by the pain in my sinsuses and feeling so dizzy. Rang GP to ask for antibiotics but was told a firm No and it'll pass. Said it's common to get sinusitis with this new variant and antibiotics won't shorten the duration so are pointless. I'm horrified by how many painkillers I've taken in a week.

stargirl1701 · 12/12/2023 11:53

@SkyFullofStars1975

Yes, I feel horrified too.

The last time I had this number of empty meds packets, I was recovering from sepsis!

My peak flow has dropped to around 280 (norm 350-400 range).

Not sure whether to call GP or not. Is the dizzy symptom related to my breathing?

@Thelmsie

No, I don't. Swithered about buying one but never did in the end.

dementedpixie · 12/12/2023 16:20

I tested positive yesterday. Only tested as we had lots of tests in the house that ds brought home from school during the height of covid. I've had it once before. It's like a bad cold with blocked and runny nose and feeling hot and cold.

Unfortunately I had been visiting my mum in hospital before I had symptoms and she now has it. Whether I gave it to her or she gave it to me is up for debate!

stargirl1701 · 12/12/2023 16:25

My pulse is on the low side - 58/59

That seems a low peak flow and something to ask for a phone consult with a GP about, perhaps. Especially with the dizziness.

Amazon do pulse oximeters with next day delivery.

stargirl1701 · 12/12/2023 21:26

I'm thinking I should call tomorrow. Asthma Nurse might have more availability than the GP. Peak flow 280 this evening but it was down at 200 before I ate some dinner.

Heronatemygoldfish · 12/12/2023 23:56

Day 6 here and my taste and smell are back thank goodness. Feeling OK now but know too many folk who rushed getting active and wound up worse.

Though since DH now has it, it's worse. He's an appalling patient! And he was only boosted 2.5wk ago.

Teen went shopping and put it all away. Impressed. I won't be in 6h when I'm trying to turf him out of bed....😂

stargirl1701 · 13/12/2023 19:22

I feel better today. I took Feminax Ultra (Naproxen) for my period and it relieved the sinus pain and then the dizziness. I was able to get out of bed for an hour this afternoon (slept for 2 hours afterwards) and I managed to eat dinner at the table.

SpringPen · 13/12/2023 22:52

I've tested negative today, hurrah! Much quicker than last year's bout, which was milder but more protracted and took 11 days to go negative. By contrast, this has taken 6 to go negative (although when I finally got a positive, I'd been poorly for 2-3 days already).

minuette1 · 14/12/2023 07:51

I am fine now 6 days after getting the first mild symptoms, and 3 days after the worst symptoms. I took time off work and completely rested while the DC were at school and I think this helped with my quick recovery.

A lot of people I know have got a bad 'cold' but haven't tested for covid and it sounds exactly like what I had. I wouldn't have gone out and bought a test to be fair, we still have lots left from when they were free.

Mine went down to 52-53 for a couple of days, but it's back to normal now.

Madameprof · 14/12/2023 08:09

Pickingmyselfup · 01/12/2023 21:21

Quite possibly but I haven't tested because there is no point. I've been in work all week because I don't get paid if I don't go in, I've been feeling ropey for 2 weeks and it's just not possible to take that much time off without consequences, financially and I need to keep my job.

My kids are still going to school, my husband is still going to work because life has to go on.

So many people around me are the same, they've had what I've got and are still coming to work because they have to. Maybe one of them gave it to me and I'll have given it to others but what choice is there? The is real life, we can't just opt out because we are a bit ill, especially not for 2 weeks!

I would love to hibernate at home fully paid whilst someone else deals with the kids!

Exactly this. So many people I know are ill but too busy to take time off as they're not that ill. Honestly given the numbers of people who are not testing and inevitably spreading it around, you're just punishing yourself by isolating.
