What happened to all the people saying they would continue wearing facemasks?

I rarely see anyone with a facemask. Even the elderly.

I see quite a few (I'm not in the uk)

CleverClogg · 26/11/2023 10:37

I'm still wearing mine, and see plenty of other people wearing them too.

I am immunocompromised.

I have a constant battle to keep a window open on the bus, and frequently end up getting off and walking miles and miles to work

ChocolateCakeOverspill · 26/11/2023 10:38

I wear one when I’m unwell, when I’m in a hospital or when I’m due to take dad for chemo. I still see a few people wearing them but I imagine there will be specific reasons rather than it being a general lifestyle choice.

User1343 · 26/11/2023 10:38

My elderly parents are still basically locked down, and if ever go out it’s with a mask.

B12B12 · 26/11/2023 10:40

I occasionally see people wearing them on the tube. A couple a week.

Down2earthsort · 26/11/2023 10:41

This is really surprising. I'm in Brighton and don't see facemasks at all even in hospital

That's really sad 😢

Yeah it is, isn’t it.

We do still wear them in hospital to prevent cross infection for vulnerable patients but I’m staff, so maybe you mean the general public.

APurpleSquirrel · 26/11/2023 10:47

I still see a few in the supermarket.

User1343 · 26/11/2023 10:47

I wore one recently when I had covid yet still needed to do the school run etc (single mum)

Nutella22 · 26/11/2023 10:52

I still wear an N95 in most crowded indoor situations. I see a few people wearing masks in my local area, although mainly the blue surgical type.

dragonpen · 26/11/2023 11:10

I still see some people wearing them and do myself in some circumstances.

I find it a bit sad that some people are quite comfortable sitting coughing and sneezing in places like hospital waiting rooms, even though it would be easy to put a mask on just for that time. Even just a blue one that would catch droplets would be better than nothing.

gamerchick · 26/11/2023 11:15

I see them quite a lot and I wear one when I've been infected with a lurgy and have to work. They're useful on occasion.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 26/11/2023 11:18

They are all out in protests

mynameiscalypso · 26/11/2023 11:20

I see quite a lot on the bus. Less so on tubes/trains but still probably a couple of face masks per carriage.

IsadoraQuagmire · 26/11/2023 11:22

I wear them on public transport and see quite a few other people (all ages) wearing them on the buses and tubes. I'm in central London.

ohtowinthelottery · 26/11/2023 11:24

I've seen a few folk with them in shops and on buses. They're mainly older people.

SnowFir · 26/11/2023 11:25

I see some people wearing them where I am

WrongSwanson · 26/11/2023 11:27

I still see some people wearing them, mainly older people in supermarkets

Waitingfordoggo · 26/11/2023 11:29

I still see at least one person wearing one every time I go to a supermarket. I’m just along the coast from you OP!

Latenightreader · 26/11/2023 11:32

I see at least two or three each time I catch a bus, and wear one myself if I have a cold or if someone is coughing/sneezing in the carriage (I have the good ones - can't remember the code now). My mother has a lung condition so I take extra care. She always wears one on the bus.

egowise · 26/11/2023 11:33

My brother who is immunocompromised was attacked for wearing one recently, by a bunch of supposedly grown men.

So it's no wonder is it.

AdoraFruitcake · 26/11/2023 11:33

I commute on the tube in London most days and there are usually 2 or 3 people per carriage wearing a mask.

I’d wear one if I had a bad cold or cough on the tube, as I’d feel terrible coughing and spluttering on other people.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 26/11/2023 11:38

I wear one as I’m immunocompromised.

usernotfound0000 · 26/11/2023 11:38

I was in New York last month and was really surprised by the amount of people wearing face masks, they even have boxes at the entrances to theatres and the like. A very stark difference to over here.
