How is COVID presenting now?

I stopped following about covid and I'm wondering, how is it presenting now? What are peoples symptoms.

My mother was in town last week and so was I. I heard soany people with stuff and viral things and coughs. My mother has a sore throat now. She was definitely exposed to something whatever it is. Just wondering if COVID starts off as a sore throat?

To be fair, I've had it five times. I don't have a lot of faith in the protection of my antibodies

Five times!!!!!! I haven't had it once. (sorry for derailing)

Val1985 · 27/08/2023 10:57

I'm similar. Headaches quite bad for a few days, all in one side, sore eye. Thought it was just a sinus infection. Aches in my neck and shoulder, pressure through my ears. Last night ran a bit of a fever, this morning headaches are more or less gone. Much milder. But one ear keeps popping and I have tinnitus. Other strains never really had too much effect on me.
Out of the kids, DD1 woke one night with what I thought was croup, was fine the next day. No temps. Woke about 3 days later saying her ears hurt, had some calpol and was fine the next morning. DD2 ran a low fever for 3 days, lots of snots, very sore throat and ears.

medianewbie · 27/08/2023 11:05

Headache. Fatigue. Feeling weak/ breathless in my chest. Then a Barking dry cough about every 3mins for 4 weeks solid. Exhausting. Plus it screwed up an inpatient appt I've been waiting for since Nov 2021 (gutted).

Pootle40 · 27/08/2023 11:13

Headache, dizzy then dry sore cough and losing voice.

Polkadotfleece · 27/08/2023 13:18

I'm am feeling like I've had a relapse
So so sickly and awful migraine type headache

AllLopsided · 27/08/2023 23:36

Sorry you are feeling rough again @Polkadotfleece. Hope it doesn't last long!

I am on day 11 and still coughing a bit, and have have a slightly raised temp. But I'm so tired! Could just sleep all day. Feeling a bit low too... I thought I'd be glad it was (hopefully nearly) over.

darkestnights · 28/08/2023 00:46

Day 6 here. Started with full body aches and then moved on to a horrific headache - so bad I couldn't sleep on days 1-3 (painkillers wouldn't even touch the sides). Stabby pains in ears and weird sinus pains (different to usual cold) have been a new one. Upset tummy. Everything tastes like cardboard but I'm weirdly quite hungry? And so bloody exhausted but sleeping in drips and drabs all over the place so my night sleep has gone to pot. Massive brain fog. Heart palpitations too.

Most of the pains have stopped now and I'm sneezing so hope I'm over the worst. Just so flattened and depressed with it.

Weirdly dh seems to have got away without catching it as have the 3 kids in the house.

darkestnights · 28/08/2023 00:47

Oh and no real sore throat here! Raised glands on day 3 though

amisrong · 28/08/2023 05:55

Sorry to hijack but I have lots of these symptoms too but don't have any tests; can you just walk into a pharmacy and buy one (UK)? They'll know it's for me, I look (and feel) terrible.

Yes. I bought one last week, it was actually for dh. Just put a mask on?

YouLetDougalDoAFuneral · 28/08/2023 07:29

@darkestnights so sorry you feel this way but it's so reassuring to hear someone else feels the same!

I have your exact symptoms, this is the 4th time I've had it that I know of and by far the worst.

The headaches, sinus pain and exhaustion have laid me out, and I've got the exact same re eating - can't taste or smell, have a weird taste in my mouth all the time, but seem to want to eat more than ever and couldn't understand that at all, so your post has made me feel a lot better.

I've got an 18mo so I really need the exhaustion to do one.

YouLetDougalDoAFuneral · 28/08/2023 07:38

Also to everyone saying what's the point in testing, I actually tested because I thought I had a sinus infection and was concerned that loss of smell and taste from a sinus infection is something I should let my GP know about (via econsult before anyone starts). To have it confirmed as Covid was therefore helpful.

Equally, to those saying it's like a cold - good for you. I've had plenty of colds in my life that have impacted me nowhere near as badly as this bout of Covid. I don't get migraines but I don't go round telling sufferers it's just a headache!

My Sainsbury’s has them next to the medicines.

Jokesadooooo · 28/08/2023 08:52

I didn’t have the booster last year but I am considering taking my appointment this year. I can honestly say, beyond my gallbladder attacks, I don’t think I have ever felt as unwell as I have since Thursday last week.

Cece92 · 28/08/2023 08:57

I just got rid of it and I started scratchy throat, then later that day my body was aching temperature and flu symptoms, chesty cough no smell or taste and a bad stomach along with a headache. I've still got a chesty cough and a dizzy head and barely any taste or smell. that's the second time I've had it xx

betwelve · 28/08/2023 09:09

It'd be better to get someone else to pick up the test. Surely if we learned one thing from this whole thing it was to keep away from others when you're ill, covid or not? The mask won't stop @amisrong from spreading covid round the pharmacy, unless it's FFP2 or 3.

Doodledoo · 28/08/2023 09:17

Anyone else here on sort of day 7/8 and feeling EXTREMELY dizzy? Like i feel like i've just walked in from a day of drinking? I am so dizzy, nauseous and the room is spinning. Not sure if it's a GP call thing or a normal covid symptom that will fade away? I am so miserable 😓

Vargas · 28/08/2023 10:55

DD and I both over it in 7-8 days. She had loss of appetite and mild nausea in addition to headache and congestion. I didn't have any loss of appetite...but very sore eyes, tinnitus, sinus pain and headache plus fatigue.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 28/08/2023 11:23

I had it last week. Cold symptoms, mild temperature, mild flu feeling, slept a lot. Was negative by day 5. Week 2 poor chest, though.

I had the dizziness yesterday at day 5. Today I'm not feeling so dizzy but still have head pain especially when moving my eyes.

We've all had it (DH, me, DD 2 and DS 8 months).
DH started with extreme tiredness and he is 2 days ahead of us. We've had a weird symptom where our bodies felt like we had sunburn. Other than that I've had shivers followed by hot sweats, headache that takes forever to go, runny/blocked nose and a cough.
Luckily both kids seem to be much better now and so does DH but I'm still feeling a bit ropey

betwelve · 28/08/2023 11:32

@Doodledoo Just so you know in case you call a doctor, that kind of dizziness is called vertigo.

I did wonder, maybe I should give them a call. If it hasn't gone away by tomorrow I think I'll call them in the morning. It's really awful. I wondered if I had an ear infection as I am getting ringing in my ears at times too. Thank you!

Like any other illness - varies per person. Mad how anyone still tests though; if you’re ill, stay home, don’t make a song and dance about it being Covid

Maybe suggest it’s mad how we also expect to test our urine if we have a urine infection, or skin for infections, or phlegm for chest infection or for flu or basically any modern test. You will save the NHS bazillions.

This was me until 2 days ago. First infection now and I feel pretty floored.

DaniAlvez · 28/08/2023 17:41

Me, DH and DS all have it now. DH symptoms (cough, extreme fatigue, 1 day of loose stools) started last Monday. He tested negative. My symptoms started on Thursday and all weekend I've had cough, razor blade throat, loose stools and the worst nausea. Constant feeling of motion sickness. I didn't test because DH had been negative and it seemed like the same illness.

DS started today. We tested him because he was due to go to the in-laws for 3 days and I wanted to be totally sure he wasn't positive. Sure enough, he has it so DH and I both tested today. Both positive.

It has been pretty grim. Much worse than the first time I had it which I think was Omicron.

Hope everyone feels better soon!
