How is COVID presenting now?

I stopped following about covid and I'm wondering, how is it presenting now? What are peoples symptoms.

My mother was in town last week and so was I. I heard soany people with stuff and viral things and coughs. My mother has a sore throat now. She was definitely exposed to something whatever it is. Just wondering if COVID starts off as a sore throat?

Does anyone have a sore stomach? Specifically the top part?

Anyone else here on sort of day 7/8 and feeling EXTREMELY dizzy? Like i feel like i've just walked in from a day of drinking? I am so dizzy, nauseous and the room is spinning. Not sure if it's a GP call thing or a normal covid symptom that will fade away? I am so miserable 😓

Yep. Been out today with kids and walked loads and I could've cried

Solidarity @YouLetDougalDoAFuneral!! I have an 8mo so similarly the exhaustion is v much not welcome. Dh works full time so also it's been near enough impossible to isolate away from baby as I need to be around for food and entertainment, I'm so hopeful he doesn't come down with it.

Managed a short stagger around the block this evening, so bloody dizzy but haven't left the house in a week so hoping fresh air did some good.

Hope you feel better soon!

Sorry to hijack but I have lots of these symptoms too but don't have any tests; can you just walk into a pharmacy and buy one (UK)? They'll know it's for me, I look (and feel) terrible.

I got a pack on Amazon, next day delivery

Celia24 · 29/08/2023 07:15

Feeling rotten. Third time for me - fever, chesty cough and chills. Need to take the day off work.

Coolingdown · 29/08/2023 08:42

Myself DH and adult DD returned home from a trip to North Wales yesterday. DH felt like he was coming down with a cold on Sunday during the day, myself and DD were ok but all of us then overnight into Monday were unwell with dizziness, nausea, hot and cold chills, sore throat etc. Horrible 4.5 hour drive home yesterday where we all felt worse by the hour.
All 3 of us in bed with high temps, blocked nose / ears, dizziness, razor sore throat, headache, nausea but feeling hungry, horrible chills, body aches. Strange dreams when you do sleep.
The symptoms seem to come in waves, nose will block then clear but chills will start. It seems to travel from your chest to your nose to your head to your body.
It’s the second time for myself and DH to get it and first time for DD. its far worse than a cold, more like flu.

betwelve · 29/08/2023 08:58

Those of you with this new "awful headache/blocked sinus/vertigo" strain, you need to make sure you rest properly. Don't get out of bed too soon, really force yourself to recover properly. As someone else said, this one's more like flu so you need a few weeks to recover.

I didn't because at that point I didn't know I had covid and I tried to go back to normal after just over a week ; things then got much worse again. I'm sure I just about doubled the duration of it.

betwelve · 29/08/2023 09:01

The thing is about vertigo is that it's a neurological symptom, so what I'm saying is if you have vertigo/hearing loss/tinnitus etc. you are very ill and you need to stay at home and recover fully.

You don't want risk being left with permanent symptoms like hearing loss, loss of balance or tinnitus.

YouLetDougalDoAFuneral · 29/08/2023 09:01

@betwelve this is fantastic advice that I will echo - unfortunately it came a bit too late for me and I'm now in the relapse stage after pushing myself over the weekend!

The vertigo is no joke.

Celia24 · 29/08/2023 15:34

@betwelve I've also got tinnitus as part of symptoms. Need to heed this advice as I'm feeling pressure to work tomorrow.

Unfortunately my bosses never really believe you're sick and sort of expect you to work through COVID citing 'i was ok with it'. It really gets me down!

Thanks for the advice.

I had covid last year and my employer rushed me back to work. I was on day 5 of the infection and 48 hours after my fever but I still wasn't right.

So if I get covid with symptoms any time soon, I think I will over exaggerate my symptoms to my employer so that I am not rushed back to work.

@betwelve - good advice.

stuckonagroundedplane · 29/08/2023 22:56

I came down with symptoms on Saturday 19 August. Tested positive within hour of first symptoms.

Day 1: sore throat, headache, rapidly developed temperature of 39.4 overnight
Day 2: sore throat disappeared. Blocked nose. Sinus pain. Massive headache. Body pain ; not just aches but pains. Ear ache. Fatigue. Swollen glands. Diarrhoea.
Day 3: Developed horrid dizziness. And coughing. Headache. Body pains. Fatigue. Vertigo : Couldn't stand upright for more than a couple of minutes. Racing heart. Diarrhoea. Got anti virals as am a chemo patient.
Day 4-7: symptoms continued plus complete lack of appetite and everything tasted weird. Body pains stopped. Worst symptoms was racing heart, sweating upon any exertion including just sitting upright, horrid horrid dizziness and brain fog. Nose got blocked again. Sinus pain.
Day 8-9: both days I awoke feeling significantly better with just the dizziness, brain fog and fatigue.
Day 10: suddenly completely recovered.

Both teen children: 48 hours of blocked nose, slight sore throat, slight headache, slight temperature, dizziness, and feeling unwell. Rapid recovery on day 3. Complete recovery day 4.

I had COVID a couple of weeks ago, no idea where I got it. It absolutely floored me. I had it about a year ago and this time was much worse. Just like flu, in bed hot sweats, muscle aches, stomach cramps. I’m over it now but the fatigue and lethargy I feel is something else. So worried as I go back to a very busy and intense job next week.

I hope everyone is feeling better soon, it’s a very unpleasant virus if you get symptoms.

Doodledoo · 30/08/2023 13:11

Hi all, my vertigo seems to have gone now, tho i still do feel very unsteady on my feet - the room isn't spinning as it was before. I still have Tinnitus, and i still have nausea, but I'm so happy the Vertigo feeling has gone, I was really struggling even lying down felt awful. Hope you all continue to get better, were all in this together and all that!

HangingOver · 30/08/2023 15:14

I've just had all my special plans I've been making for my family to visit cancelled by COVID. I feel veeeeery hot and achy with smashing headache.

I'm so sorry to read this and other peoples experiences of the recent covid too.

You would wonder how some people are so flippant just to pass on their symptoms of illness and sickness.

I've tested positive today, my second time of catching covid (last was Delta on 1st November 2021). It's like a wide awake paralysis, hardly able to move at all, I feel absolutely wretched.

Polkadotfleece · 30/08/2023 17:59

Has anyone had really weird brain fog ? I just can't think straight. Started new job a few months ago so am needing to concentrate but today realised I'd totally forgotten something I did before my holiday (which is where I caught covid ).
It's really worried me and I started Googling before I stopped myself self diagnosing with dementia. I feel mostly better after a relapse day6 after going back to work too quickly. Felt weary all weekend but heart rate finally down and am just getting through now. No energy for my usuals long dog walk or any exercise though. I also had until today awful nausea but still hungry

Coolingdown · 30/08/2023 19:32

I’m on day 3 and feel appalling. I’m in bed as I feel too fatigued to move. My head feels like it’s been stuffed with wool, painful, pressure in my ears, nose, eyes and in my head generally. Even my teeth are throbbing. Every now and again my nose runs like a tap then stops. I have a cough that hurts my chest and is a little productive.
My eyes are painful and blurry and the light bothers me.

My legs and back are aching really badly. My skin feels itchy and sunburned. The thing that worries me is the sudden rush of palpitations and wooziness that comes over me in a rush. It does settle but I’ve also got a heavy feeling in my chest.

This is the second time for me to have Covid, the last time was about 18m ago. I remember feeling pretty poorly then and this is the same. Im fully vaccinated and was hoping that each time I got it it would get easier as my immune system would recognise it. Doesn’t seem to be the case this time.

Polkadotfleece · 30/08/2023 17:56

Horrible isn't it?

Indeed, I was expecting 24-48 hours of sniffles and blocked nose etc, having thought that I had antibodies from the awful delta strain and had 2 x az jab and the follow up pfizer booster jab, plus long covid. I'm not in particularly good health and am 61 so I should've expected something far more sinister and rotten.

stuckonagroundedplane · 30/08/2023 20:12

@Polkadotfleece yes to the brain fog. Mine cleared on day ten.

@Coolingdown yes to the palpitations and horrid sensation every time I stood up or even tried to sit up. Mine went on day ten.

It's really frightened me tbh!

Coolingdown · 30/08/2023 21:28

I feel a bit frightened by it too, I have a pulse oximeter and my O2 levels are absolutely fine. I just need to try and relax and accept it’ll take a while to get better I suppose. My DH who had it 2 days before me has bounced back quickly and is returning to work tomorrow as his workplace expect you in even though you still are positive.
DD is the same as me, still feeling really unwell. I’m still hot / cold / sweaty etc. It’s the most ill I’ve been in a long time
