The WhatsApp message leak

So, we’ve had the FBI saying it was a lab leak, the leaked messages showing many of the restrictions were for show, stats on the reality of masks being mostly useless unless N95s. Where are all the people that were so upset about anyone saying anything against the government now.

It’s almost as if no one care where the virus came from and how the government reacted. If I’d spent years being terrified and washing my shopping I’d be really pissed off.

Aaaand there's the random uncalled-for rudeness again.

Logic is not YOUR strong suit if you think you can randomly berate posters on one thread for something someone else said, in the past, in another thread.

This entire thread turned into one giant derail ages ago 🙄

Periornot · 20/03/2023 08:10

Shopping washers, face nappies, muzzles etc - all part of the same discourse.

WestwardHo1 · 20/03/2023 09:53

surrenderdorothy · 19/03/2023 23:10

Oh, yes, hahahaha. And all the face muzzlers with their face nappies...

Why are you mocking people for taking reasonable precautions, as seemed fit with the facts of that early stage of information, during a pandemic of a novel coronavirus?

You are going to be in for one hell of a nasty surprise when (not if, according to experts) the next pandemic occurs. Just have to hope it is not hemorrhagic in nature, or in your case not, say, the Nipah virus - with a 40-75% fatality rate - which is best protected against by washing fruits and fruit products.

But those are different diseases aren't they?

What would have been the point of doing those things to try and protect against Covid? Confused

A logical question.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 20/03/2023 10:40

Anyways, back to the broad subject area being discussed: Johnson gives evidence to the parliamentary committee this Wednesday. It's going to cover Partygate, so I'd expect they'll talk about some of the events that messages have already been leaked about. He's also submitting a dossier too, which should be a laugh.

It'll be interesting to see whether the Telegraph release anything else beforehand or if they're going to hold fire with whatever they've got.

Mycatsgoldtooth · 20/03/2023 11:30

The shopping washers now frothing at the mouth at the thought of anyone not completely towing the government line being wiped out by a new deadly pandemic, since we skeptics didn’t get killed in the last one like they hoped.

If there is a new pandemic I will do as I did in the last one, look at the evidence around me and decide my actions from there. Served me well so far.

Well reasoned, rational and in absolutely no way frothy post, OP. Honest guv.

For the sake of balance, the post she replied to was also absolutely fucking hatstand.

Periornot · 20/03/2023 15:57

Well, yes. If you're balancing an elephant against a cat.

WestwardHo1 · 20/03/2023 16:16

I can't find the words on reading that.

Other than, my dad died in a care setting just before the pandemic. Every day I am thankful he died before being incarcerated on his own.

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 20/03/2023 16:18

Periornot · 20/03/2023 15:57

Well, yes. If you're balancing an elephant against a cat.

You spelled post whose sentiments I broadly agree with against post whose sentiments I broadly disagree with wrong there.

TheDailyCarbunkle · 20/03/2023 16:18

The utter cruelty of decreeing that elderly people could be looked after by strangers but not be seen or touched by their own family is hard to fathom - it just makes no sense whatsoever. I hope those in favour of lockdowns can at least acknowledge that that was beyond anything that was necessary or right and that we never again have a situation where people are forced to die in solitary confinement 'for their own good.'

Periornot · 20/03/2023 16:27

@BashirWithTheGoodBeard, nope I articulated it just fine. FYI, that doesn't mean I hope all skeptics die in the next pandemic in case you take it the wrong way.

As I said, the post was fucking hatstand. You could only think it was an elephant and cat comparison if you were innately sympathetic to one viewpoint over the other, given that both posts were rather unpleasant.

Periornot · 20/03/2023 16:43

Are you saying you believe the posts were pretty much equally balanced?

Mycatsgoldtooth · 20/03/2023 16:52

The fact of the matter is the people that were most hysterical about covid seem to be wishing for some sort of worse pandemic to teach us a lesson for not taking the last one as seriously as they did. Sorry you were duped. But threatening some ‘hemmoragic’ illness on people is bonkers.

You’re upset by shopping washer. Try being called a selfish murderer for saying you were upset to give birth in a mask. or being told you shouldn’t get nhs treatment for any illness because you didn’t get vaccinated. Literally the vilest stuff said on here to covid sceptics during the pandemic but you’re getting so upset about a bit of piss taking.

I certainly think the idea that the first one was cat sized compared compared to the elephant of the second is sufficiently ridiculous that bias is the best explanation. Don't approve of either post and both have roots in unpleasant previous discourse.

Periornot · 20/03/2023 17:10

So is that a yes or a no?

BashirWithTheGoodBeard · 20/03/2023 17:10

Periornot · 20/03/2023 17:10

So is that a yes or a no?

Yeah, there or thereabouts.

FrostyFifi · 20/03/2023 17:20

The carehome lockdowns was particularly cruel. We all know that many of them aren't great and it required the vigilence and frequent visits of families to ensure the safety, comfort and dignity of residents. That's before you even factor in the emotional impact of spending your last couple of years separated from everyone you love.
I actually dread to think what went in behind closed doors during that time period.

Hospitals as well - how posts have we read on here alone of people whose elderly or very unwell relatives have been neglected or received sub-standard care? Everything from medical bungles not picked up on to staff not ensuring that patients eat or drink. It's the relatives that pick up the slack and pick up on errors. Again you've had how long where that simply didn't happen.

Between the above two, how many lives lost?

Periornot · 20/03/2023 17:31

@Mycatsgoldtooth and if you'd responded to someone saying those things to you with 'shopping washer', I'd be referring to you as the cat. I'm not upset, but I do find your choice of jeering language to some posters deliberately provocative and not conducive to discussion.

Mycatsgoldtooth · 20/03/2023 17:59

Im responding to the palpable excitement of a new more deadly pandemic and people not taking precautions, you deem sensible, as inviting death by bleeding on themselves. Literally mad.

OP posts:
WestwardHo1 · 20/03/2023 19:23

We've seen it on several threads lately. Posters getting all upset at what they perceive to be "jeering", quite forgetting the relentless abuse which was being hurled at others two and three years ago.
