And if you chose not to please don’t give COVID to my red zone working partner.

I’m CEV, I’m positive, I can have only caught it from him - and he works In a red zone where last week 98% of patients were not vaccinated

Sorry for the moan.

@SantaClawsServiette

OP, while your partner may deal with more unvaccinated people at work, given that he has ppe there, it may actually be more likely he's picked it up in the community going about his regular business.

Perhaps you are not out and about much and don't realize it, but things are not the same now as they were. It's basically everywhere like a cold. Everyone is going to be exposed to a covid positive person, it's just a matter of time.

Absolutely! It’s definitely come from his work this time (for reasons I won’t go into detail on but yes we have been pseudo isolating for other reasons bar the person who treated me for a kidney infection.)

Ah well

@Cherryblossoms85

Sigh. I'm vaccinated and boosted. Doesn't make me any less likely to spread it.
It does make you less likely to end up in covid critical care though…

The point of my post was to be a mardi bum and dictate people get the vaccine.

Clearly. D’oh.

I am not sure that you are right about that. Could you please give me the data that you are basing your statement on (bearing in mind that viral load is not the same as transmissibility)?

OP I’m sorry you’re sick again.

But I have to say your title is very aggressive. But I get it. It’s the fear talking. Fear can cause us to blame others and act in unreasonable ways.

I think now we all just need to calm down and stop blaming others and try to be a little more understanding of other people’s views. We’ve ALL been traumatized on some level by the last two years. We’ve all got fears and concerns whether that be over vaccines, the actual illness, finances, the effects on our children/families etc.

I’ve only had one vaccine. I was so ill from it that I can’t face another. Maybe one day but not now. Other people I know I have genuine reservations and concerns about the vaccine for various different reasons. They’re not stupid. Or selfish people. They’re fearful. As you are.

We’ve been all asked to give up SO much lately and we’re all jaded. I think it’s time we all start respecting other people’s views and stop blaming. The virus is circulating whether we like it or not, whether we try to hammer it with vaccines or not sadly.

PaulGallico · 10/01/2022 15:49

These threads give people who refuse the vaccine too much attention and as a pp poster said more entrenched in their ideas. We are at the stage in the pandemic where it is time to move on - get a vaccine/don't get a vaccine - have a milder dose of covid/find yourself in ICU. Really down to personal choice. I've had the booster myself.

It won’t work and just gets people backs up and entrenched further

at the end of the day you can't expect anyone to change their vaccination status just to suit you. You can however have a word with your partner about the job he's choosing to do if it's causing you this much worry about your health.

Yes I agree with this.

You can't control whether other people want to get vaccinated or not. But you can control where you and your 'dude' work. Try to focus on changing the things you can control.

cook4Meals · 10/01/2022 16:15

If there is anyone out there still trying to prove that the unvaccinated are driving the pandemic based on some graph, chart etc presented to them by the govt.... PLEASE STOP! If you live in the real world, go to work, have kids in schools, see family and friends, we absolutely all see the same pattern that anyone and everyone can get covid and it's passed onto them by anyone and everyone regardless of their vaccine status. In fact, I'd even go as far as saying that all those around me who are fully vaccinated and those recently boosted came down with covid much worse than those who are partially jabbed or unjabbed. Literally nothing they show and tell us on tv/radio matches what my family and I see around us in real life.

This is so true!
ravenmum · 10/01/2022 16:27

If you like individual anecdotes more than large-scale statistics, here's a couple:
My exFIL had it in 2020, when unvaccinated, and was in hospital.
He then got it again in 2021, when vaccinated, and was not in hospital.
A vaccinated friend age 50 got it from work, had a nasty cough, but is back to jogging with me now.
An unvaccinated friend age 50 got it and now has 20% lung capacity. Used to go mountain climbing but obviously not any more.

Like some anecdotes but not others? Then continue believing whatever you fancy, but stop bothering me with your stupid anecdotes!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/01/2022 16:34

This is so true!

But unscientific. There are no words to describe how this annoys me. It traduces everything we know about medecine, viruses, vaccines.

And yet so many people rely upon it...

Well how about expecting people to change their vaccination status to save other peoples' lives? Is that unreasonable?

Flaxmeadow · 10/01/2022 18:08

You're right OP but what you're dealing with here is covid denial. A refusal to accept the reality of an extremely serious situation and what this virus is capable of. Heads either stuck in the sand or glued to the hopium pipe

Flaxmeadow · 10/01/2022 18:17

MarshaBradyo

It's not so much the vaccine refusal, it's the denial that gets to me Marsha. The refusal by so many to accept what's happening. How serious the situation so obviously is and has been right from the start

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 10/01/2022 18:24

@Seriouslymole

Can I just ask how you manage being CEV with a partner working in healthcare, during a bad flu year?

And your turn of phrase will do nothing to encourage people to have a vaccination.

I hope you recover quickly.

But I've never been offered immediate treatment for flu within 24hrs of a positive test Or been told to isolate with it Or been sent food boxes by the government It's not flu, and I've had flu so I know kind of how I will be with it but I don't with covid

Also if you've been with your partner say a decade and then you become CEV, I guess we just ditch our husbands and partners?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/01/2022 18:27

And the certainty that the vaccine makes no appreciable difference, or that CEV people have no right to still be scared by it or any one of hundreds of "I did my own research" claims.

It's a fucking global pandemic, never been experienced before. The WORLD stopped - with the exception of Tuvalu, Turkhmenistan, Tokelau, Picairn, Nth Korea, Kiribati, Cook Islands - a total of 12 countires, mostly isolated small island groups (and Nth Korea, Turkhmenistan with their own reasons for posting 0 cases) - and had to take stock.

As bad as it has been we have been immensely lucky that it was no worse. And yet, still, next time, many will refute the data, have very short memories and will insist that they are capable of assessing the RR - for themselves and those around them based on social media and newspaper headlines.
