To say get your fucking vaccine (if you can)

And if you chose not to please don’t give COVID to my red zone working partner.

I’m CEV, I’m positive, I can have only caught it from him - and he works In a red zone where last week 98% of patients were not vaccinated

Sorry for the moan.

Have been vaccinated but my decision

This is the main point, it was your decision. No one should be coerced/bullied into being vaccinated. I've had my 3 but I don't know if I'll have another booster if it goes that way. Maybe in a year or so but not before that and no amount of telling me to get a fucking vaccine or pushing me to do it will change my mind.

Flaxmeadow · 10/01/2022 18:36

You only have to compare the numbers before vaccination (Jan 2020) and after vaccination to see how successful the vaccine was at reducing deaths and still is. Look at the graphs.

Vaccines, and other measures, gives us time. Immunity (both infection and vaccine induced) might not be very long lasting, but the vaccine is better than nothing. Testing, lockdown when needed, masks, social distancing, ventilation all helps

MarshaBradyo · 10/01/2022 18:52

I agree with both last two posts

Vaccines have been hugely helpful in reducing disease etc but it should be personal decision without coercion

And I’m not for sacking nhs staff, whom we need

I really dislike the ‘hopium’ phrase though! Probably up there with the worst of pandemic ;

Flaxmeadow · 10/01/2022 18:58

Marsha, yes, even though I just used it, I probably shouldn't have. I'm starting to dislike the phrase too TBH.

AllisoninWunderland · 10/01/2022 19:03

We’re just going round in circles now.
Half posters saying ‘the vaccine is the only way out!’
Half posters saying ‘The vaccine isn’t very effective!’
Truth in both but neither is the whole truth.
Can’t we all just agree to us all being at different places on a spectrum and to STOP blaming other humans who are all just doing their best???!!!

Rosscameasdoody · 10/01/2022 19:16

@Blubells

at the end of the day you can't expect anyone to change their vaccination status just to suit you. You can however have a word with your partner about the job he's choosing to do if it's causing you this much worry about your health.

Yes I agree with this.

You can't control whether other people want to get vaccinated or not. But you can control where you and your 'dude' work. Try to focus on changing the things you can control.

And exactly how is he supposed to ‘control where he works ?
Rockbottom2910 · 10/01/2022 19:21

I'm all for vaccines but I also know vaccines don't stop transmission. You could have sight or regardless

BasketBlocks · 10/01/2022 19:23

As has been noted above several times, telling the unvaccinated they’re thick, deluded and/or irresponsible. It’s just going to make them stick two fingers up.

You persuade by telling people why it’s good for them, good for everyone else and by addressing the reasons they haven’t had it.

And ultimately, if they still don’t want it, that’s fine.

Rosscameasdoody · 10/01/2022 19:26

@DancyNancy

You are being very very unreasonable.

My double vacc DH got it in a pub which was vaccine cert with valid photo ID entry only (indoor pubs/restaurants in ROI is vaccinated only).
Table service only. So he was socially distanced in a room full of vaccinated people and still got it.
I got it from him at home(double vaccinated)
2 of my 3 children got it (none vaccinated).

Anyone I know who's gotten it over Christmas (many people! ) is vaccinated and got it from a vaccinated person...a lot of them boosted.

In ireland circa 50%of ICU patients are unvaccinated.....so there's still 50% vaccinated covid positive patients gonna be in there for staff to work with.

So ya...I'm sorry OP but you're being very unreasonable.

I hope you are doing OK in terms of health and symptoms though?
I understand you must be very scared right now. I felt scared when we got it cause of 2 years of media and waiting for it. I hope you recover quickly

And nowhere in your post have you clarified whether anyone was CEV, which is rather the point.
Blubells · 10/01/2022 19:28

And exactly how is he supposed to ‘control where he works

By finding a workplace that doesn't involve a lot of contact with covid patients

It's not so much the vaccine refusal, it's the denial that gets to me Marsha. The refusal by so many to accept what's happening. How serious the situation so obviously is and has been right from the start

There are some covid deniers out there but I haven't seen any on this thread. Possibly I've missed someone but the fact is it isn't common.

But different views on how serious the situation is? That's not a totally objective measure, for one thing. People can have a totally accurate understanding of the risks it involves and not believe it warrants the measures another person might.

Some of that comes down to some people being much more risk adverse than others. Some people are also more included to be upset by things they can't control. Others see the downsides of measures differently and may think those are more serious. Or they may simply believe that the measures are unsustainable long-term - something like isolation for every covid positive person, for example - how long can that go on? These are all very arguable positions.

And while you might think some people don't put enough weight on the risk of covid, and I am sure that is true of some people, there are also plenty of people who think it is far more serious than it is. Research suggests British people overestimate the risk of death from covid by a factor of about 10. They misunderstand who is likely to die from covid, and they also tend to especially misunderstand risk compared to things like other respiratory infections.

MoonlightFancy · 10/01/2022 19:56

Facebook isn’t research.

That's not what the discussion has been about at all?
DancyNancy · 10/01/2022 22:00

@Rosscameasdoody I'm not sure what you mean....
The OP wants everyone to get 'fucking vaccinated' so that she doesn't get covid....
the point I was making was that vaccinated people still transmitted covid to others......she got covid from her vaccinated DH......so everyone being vaccinated won't stop her getting covid....

milkyaqua · 10/01/2022 23:43

@workingtowards

This conversation is reminding me of the Indian folktale of the blind men and the elephant Grin

Blind men and the elephant

Oh, that is such a beautiful rendition of this story. Thank you for that.
Rocaille · 11/01/2022 00:07

YABU. Vaccination does not prevent transmission. It reduces the likelihood of infected people becoming seriously ill.

Stay out of other people's business.

How many threads do there have to be before all the monumentally stupid posters on here realise that the health/death risks are far far higher from catching Covid than from having a vax that causes no side effects in most people
