That's useful.

I imagine it will vary enormously. Earlier in the week it was 12-24 hours here but I imagine it's longer now with all the bank holidays.

Theimpossiblegirl · 27/12/2021 13:08

I can't get anything in my county so have ordered postal. It's not great, I can't work unless I'm negative but the sooner I know the better for cover.

DopesickSis · 27/12/2021 13:12

@Tabbacus

Probably as people went bananas over testing over Christmas! No wonder our cases are higher when we test so much, those that had pcrs just in case have made it harder for those with symptoms to get one.

That's just not logical, it's Ostrich thinking.

You can't find what isn't there.

JanglyBeads · 27/12/2021 13:14

Apparently all regions are now showing as having tests available again

LadyNell · 27/12/2021 13:17

I used a priority postbox to post pcr tests Christmas day but apparently there are no colle tions until weds

ShaneTheThird · 27/12/2021 13:22

You don't "need" to go to work if you meet the criteria for a PCR test. You "need" to stay put.

I don't have symptoms but many people at my work do. I need to work. I get no sick pay. I work zero hours on a min wage contract and if someone has to cover days I'm not there they get priority over available hours the next week. It's not happening. If the government say you have to stay off and test then they better have tests immediately available for everyone to avoid this. I'm not losing my income and home for the sake of a mild illness.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 27/12/2021 13:26

Oh I've just learned something new - bills don't need paying if you can't work because of covid!

SpringheelJack · 27/12/2021 13:27

There are in the East Midlands! I booked one on Boxing Day for 12.30 - booked it about 10. Results came back about 10.30 today - fucking void, so I booked another one for 11.30 today. All quicker and easier than I thought it would be given numbers!

That's just not true though.

Royal Mail are working though, my PCR tests ordered yesterday (Boxing Day) have just been delivered to me.

If they are delivering, they will also be collecting from the designated priority boxes.

Not Christmas Day, no. They had one day off.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 27/12/2021 13:43

The system updates on on several defined times each day, so best not to over-interpret ‘unavailable’ status as often just means a lot of time has elapsed since last refresh.

Tabbacus · 27/12/2021 13:46

It's not ostrich thinking as not bothered about daily case rates, they don't mean much really unless they translate into a tonne of hospital admissions which doesn't seem to be the case yet for omicron. But lots of people do test unnecessarily just in case, and whilst some will be asymptomatic and be positive, we should start charging for them like other countries now as its ridiculous.

CorrBlimeyGG · 27/12/2021 13:48

@BeLessMe Have you looked at the criteria for the support payment? Far more people do not qualify for it, than do. Another 'pretending we care but not really' initiative from Sunak.

Pinkflipflop85 · 27/12/2021 13:50

Sunday collections apply for 26th, 27th and 28th December, which is our area means no collection at all.

Our local depots have all shut down until Wednesday.

AnyFucker · 27/12/2021 13:50

3 members of my family have had walk-in PCRs over the Xmas period and all had results within 24 hrs

Ftl6 · 27/12/2021 13:56

Odd. Some of my family members booked late on Christmas Eve for tests on Christmas Day morning, as one was symptomatic and the others contacts. Results back on Boxing Day in less than 30 hours. None of them had to travel far for a test either, all getting in at their most local centres. I’d just try again later.

PurpleDaisies · 27/12/2021 13:57

Everywhere is showing available now.

LadyNell · 27/12/2021 14:00

Dopesicksis

I was only you'd that by Post Office shop owner. I drink he meant normal post maybe? I'd have thought being a priority postbox box they woukd colle t like you said. I'm NHS and need result, we are so short staffed I need to get back there. No idea if positive, I've done lft and they were negative but not feeling very well. Son positive so not sure what my result will be jabbed x3 also

Aardvarkitsabloodyaardvark · 27/12/2021 14:08

Postal tests are not available for a few days in my part of the country.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 27/12/2021 14:09

Yes got one for tomorrow morning.

oviraptor21 · 27/12/2021 14:11

Postal test ordered Friday and arrived yesterday.

Poisinedmummy · 27/12/2021 14:20

Is the home test the LFTs?

Cookerhood · 27/12/2021 14:22

You can order PCRs to do at home @Poisinedmummy. Or order LFTs for delivery as well.

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/12/2021 14:28

Postal PCR tests don't take ages. Mine came the next day, I posted it in a priority box that day and got the (negative) result the next morning.
