That's useful.

Family member has "just a cold and a cough, it's fine because lateral flow is negative".
FFS.
I manage to persuade him to have a PCR test but there are none. Can order a postal one but that's likely to take bloody ages this time of year, isn't it.

@EndoplasmicReticulum Royal Mail are working every day so a postal test won't take long.

Ifailed · 27/12/2021 12:14

postal one ordered now should arrive tomorrow, in England.

ToykotoLosAngeles · 27/12/2021 12:18

I booked one this morning for 4.30?

LegoPandemic · 27/12/2021 12:28

I had one this morning at 9, booked yesterday. Wondering how long for results!

dairyfarmerswife · 27/12/2021 12:29

Booked a PCR for DH this morning, he's just gone for it now.

Tabbacus · 27/12/2021 12:29

Probably as people went bananas over testing over Christmas! No wonder our cases are higher when we test so much, those that had pcrs just in case have made it harder for those with symptoms to get one.

MehMahMoo · 27/12/2021 12:32

I'm in the queue now for my father to have one. They were available here all day. And on the booking system said available for all areas.

Two of my kids tested positive Christmas Eve -results took 48hours.

CremeEggThief · 27/12/2021 12:32

If there are still postal PCRs, it negates your thread title.

Yes they will take ages, but some of us who don't have a car have no choice anyway! I had to wait from Saturday lunchtime to Wednesday morning for my results. And you know what? It takes as long as it takes. Simple as that.

TellMeItsPossible · 27/12/2021 12:33

I made some sort of error when booking my test yesterday, for today, and it didn't go through. So now I've ordered a test by post. Hey ho. I'm already off work until the 5th and wfh anyway, so I suppose it makes little difference.

Underhisi · 27/12/2021 12:34

People are booking walk ins and drive throughs because of the postal ones taking ages. There are no collections here until Wednesday so there was no point in ordering a postal one until today at least.

OhPleaseJustLast · 27/12/2021 12:35

There’ll be more slots loaded later. Try again in an hour or so.

SameToo · 27/12/2021 12:35

I’ve just done one at a test centre this morning Confused

PheasantsNest · 27/12/2021 12:36

@Underhisi The priority post boxes are being emptied daily.

greenanorak · 27/12/2021 12:36

We had three this morning

Cookerhood · 27/12/2021 12:37

There were appointments available yesterday but quite some way away. We ordered a postal one yesterday & it arrived this morning. It's gone into a priority post box which apparently has a collection at 3pm. If you look on the post office website you can search on priority post boxes & bank holiday collections.

bumblefeline · 27/12/2021 12:39

I think that's a slight exaggeration OP.

Underhisi · 27/12/2021 12:44

Royal mail is stating Sunday collection which is no collection here. Even is that is not correct it will put people off.

ShaneTheThird · 27/12/2021 12:47

And you know what? It takes as long as it takes. Simple as that.

It's not as "simple as that" when some of us need to go to work and cannot take time off waiting days for tests and results.

CremeEggThief · 27/12/2021 12:52

Well you have to ShaneTheThird, or you'll be breaking the rules! Simple as that.

I'm an agency worker on just above minimum wage, who has had to take unpaid time off a few times waiting for PCR results, when you're not even entitled to the pittance that is SSP for the first three days, so believe me I probably have more reason than most of you to moan, but I don't!🙄

Iggly · 27/12/2021 12:55

@Tabbacus

Probably as people went bananas over testing over Christmas! No wonder our cases are higher when we test so much, those that had pcrs just in case have made it harder for those with symptoms to get one.
Or maybe if the government updated the public on the three main symptoms of covid then testing would be better targeted. Instead of the three bullshit “cough/loss of taste/fever”.

My children keep getting coughs during the winter. But the symptoms for them are more likely to be dodgy stomach and a sore throat.

Blame the testing all you like. Why don’t people blame the actual government. The people in charge?!

ToykotoLosAngeles · 27/12/2021 12:55

@ShaneTheThird

And you know what? It takes as long as it takes. Simple as that.

It's not as "simple as that" when some of us need to go to work and cannot take time off waiting days for tests and results.

You don't "need" to go to work if you meet the criteria for a PCR test. You "need" to stay put.
rc22 · 27/12/2021 12:56

I did one at a drive through test centre at 11am on Christmas Day and got the result at 11.30am yesterday.

Iggly · 27/12/2021 12:56

Also testing doesn’t increase the prevalence of covid. That’s Donald Trump logic.

Malteser71 · 27/12/2021 12:58

I had dinner yesterday with somebody pretty senior in the NHS, told me the turnaround for results is five days.

Don’t know where he gets that information from, especially on Boxing Day, but he’s reliable.
