Are there any talks of a post Christmas lockdown at all now?

OrangeCrunch · 25/12/2021 15:30

Just that really.

We were incredibly relieved and surprised to actually make it to this point, but assumed if we did, we'd almost definitely be cancelling our NYE plans, but that all seems to have gone quiet now.

Or have I missed something?

Merry Christmas btw! Xmas Smile

They will only lock down if hospitalisations, and deaths start to overwhelm the NHS again ,people can shout and stamp their feet all they want saying the won't comply ,but if figures go scarily high again I think the majority will
That said fingers crossed none of this does happen

Svara · 25/12/2021 18:21

@Livelifeinthebuslane

Problem is Labour will probably want an even harder lockdown....
I've never voted Tory but I don't think I could vote Labour ever again Sad
Svara · 25/12/2021 18:23

people can shout and stamp their feet all they want saying the won't comply
No one I know is getting worked up about it, just a calm 'No thanks'.

Topseyt · 25/12/2021 18:24

There will hopefully be no further lockdowns. This insanity and hysteria has to stop.

I think they are trying to avoid lockdowns to be honest. They would surely have to bring back furlough if there were to be another one, and I don't think they will be too keen on that idea. It has cost trillions over the last couple of years.

x2boys · 25/12/2021 18:26

Maybe post the whole quote 🙄
Arcadia · 25/12/2021 18:37

Why would we go from everything open to a full lockdown? It won't happen and people wouldn't do it anyway as they are no longer scared.

AnguaResurgam · 25/12/2021 18:37

No new stats being published today or tomorrow

The data immediately following will be a bit deranged (behaviour factors being different - many people off their usual routines etc)

I wonder how long it'll take for there to be a settled view?

Loads of DCs friends have tested positive in the last few days - NY parties looking less and less likely. Most no worse than a cold, but there are a couple who are proper poorly

Svara · 25/12/2021 18:37

Maybe post the whole quote 🙄
Posted the bit I was replying to. No one I know is shouting or stamping about it in the slightest, we just won't be complying. We will continue to spend time with likeminded friends and family outside and in each other's homes.

TheKeatingFive · 25/12/2021 18:38

No one I know is getting worked up about it, just a calm 'No thanks'.

Exactly. Ultimately none of this works without compliance

Yes. I think that's because Labour are more centred on people, Tories on the economy
TheKeatingFive · 25/12/2021 18:40

people wouldn't do it anyway as they are no longer scared.

Yes, this is key. We're all double/triple vaxxed if we want to be and the fear just isn't there any more for the majority.

MaloryPowers · 25/12/2021 18:41

@AnyFucker

That is fucking insane. Get Xmas Day over and the media will start with their doomsday headlines. So sick of this shit.

DH and I are on our own this Xmas Day, both adult dc’s have covid currently. All a lockdown will do is prolong the agony

Every fucking year, between Christmas and New year's the bloody media act as if the END IS NIGH. So sick of this shit. All of it. Schools and people in general acting as if there is no Covid throughout October, November and December. Parent evening in person at school with teachers not wearing face masks. I wore one and felt that it was anti social so tick it off when talking with the teachers. Last week we had a Christmas play with 120 parents and 60 kids, 2 days later they close the school early with one day's notice. People who went to Christmas dinners, family parties and what not 2 weeks ago are now sending passive aggressive message on what's app that they are testing to keep others safe and generally being hysterical and over reacting when all through autumn they acted as if there is no pandemic. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggg. Xmas Angry
TheKeatingFive · 25/12/2021 18:41

This kind of black and white thinking is just so juvenile. The immense harms of lockdown have been totally ignored by Labour. Their approach has been appalling.

Fallagain · 25/12/2021 18:41

No one not even the government knows. It all depends on the date and this year with a fast spreading variant that will include how many essential staff are isolating. Last year it was easy to see where it was going but this year I feel like what happens next it very much an unknown.

greyinganddecaying · 25/12/2021 18:45

We've been isolating a week and have another 7 days to go due to us taking it in turns to get covid. By the time we finish we won't be able to see family that we'd originally planned to see over Christmas because we'll be locked down again 🙄

LumosSolem · 25/12/2021 18:46

This.

Labour aren't centred on people any more than the tories are. At least some Tory backbenchers have had spines and been prepared to speak up for civil liberties.

IcedPurple · 25/12/2021 18:48

Do you think people thrive when the economy is subjected to repeated lockdowns?

"The economy" isn't just the stock market and guys in suits trading dividends. It's the couple who run the local cafe, the taxi driver who takes passengers home from a night out, the student who's paying off his fees with his part-time job in a cinema.

These are people too, aren't they?

savagebaggagemaster · 25/12/2021 18:58

There won't be another proper lockdown. There is no furlough available.
Surely schools will not close unless a lack of staffing forces it (possible)
As long as we don't all go back to school for a day then get ordered to close (see last year!)
I'm sick of this country's media telling us what we should think / do...

Incognito22333 · 25/12/2021 19:04

I don’t think it is just about the NHS being overwhelmed anymore- we need concrete figures as to how many lives are actually saved by a lockdown and the economic cost of each of those lives. If every Covid live saved costs eg 15 million then it can’t be justified because the NHS won’t spend that kind of money on eg a cancer patient either. So I reckon Parliament would want hard figures and costs at this point when we have ample vaccine availability.

BoredZelda · 25/12/2021 19:08

No one I know is getting worked up about it, just a calm 'No thanks'.

Which is equally insane. It won’t be a choice.

BoredZelda · 25/12/2021 19:11

Once again, stop pretending you can choose between covid and the economy.

TheKeatingFive · 25/12/2021 19:11

It won’t be a choice.

Yes it will in terms of household mixing

It’ll be my choice to continue to see friends and family in my home and theirs though.

Oh yes that's the problem right now. FfsHmm
LumosSolem · 25/12/2021 19:21

What exactly do you think is going to stop friends and family seeing each other in their houses? Some magical force field? The police snort ?
