Are there any talks of a post Christmas lockdown at all now?

Just that really.

We were incredibly relieved and surprised to actually make it to this point, but assumed if we did, we'd almost definitely be cancelling our NYE plans, but that all seems to have gone quiet now.

Or have I missed something?

Merry Christmas btw! Xmas Smile

I think it will be from 3rd of January when we start hearing about it again and something is implemented

HailAdrian · 25/12/2021 15:37

Last I read, there was little need for further restrictions because we are two thirds less likely to be hospitalised with the omicron variant

Suranjeep · 25/12/2021 15:38

Sadly SAGE came out with one of their predictions of doom yesterday which suggests that we need to move back to step 2 of the so called roadmaps

No household mixing and hospitality closed apart from outside, recommend it to the end of March.

Watch the media force the government this coming week.

thetigerthatcamefortea · 25/12/2021 15:39

I am meant to be getting married on the 30th and we are on pins waiting to find out if it will go ahead or if we need to rearrange again!

AnyFucker · 25/12/2021 15:41

That is fucking insane. Get Xmas Day over and the media will start with their doomsday headlines. So sick of this shit.

DH and I are on our own this Xmas Day, both adult dc’s have covid currently. All a lockdown will do is prolong the agony

FanGirlX · 25/12/2021 15:42

Doesn't a full lockdown have to be approved by parliament?

They can do guidance until they get parliament to vote but that's it.

I predict there will be media hype this coming week and a lockdown from early January. In the meantime I'm going to eat food and get merry.

Happy Christmas everyone and may this be over by next Christmas.

Suranjeep · 25/12/2021 15:45

Sadly I expect so much hysteria over the coming days parliament will be recalled midweek 😢

No sorry @YuletideLog I’m a key worker (transport) and I’m done with being the only people that can work.

Of it isn’t safe for the middle class to work then it isn’t for us either.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 25/12/2021 16:03

Until the end of March? Fucking insanity

Suranjeep · 25/12/2021 16:06

@Cripesitsthegasman19

Until the end of March? Fucking insanity
And let be honest if they get away with it this year, It’ll be an annual thing to deal with NHS capacity issues.
Dghgcotcitc · 25/12/2021 16:06

Masks to eat Christmas diner mumsnet is just surreal sometimes 😂🤣

NotSonicTheHedgehog · 25/12/2021 16:10

@YuletideLog source for hospitalisations going through the roof please

AnyFucker · 25/12/2021 16:22

Hospitalisation through the roof ? Where ?

HailAdrian · 25/12/2021 16:35

No doubt he or she has just been parroting this since early 2020

HailAdrian · 25/12/2021 16:35

(Hospitalisations through the roof)

Wishfulthinking1977 · 25/12/2021 16:59

They can pretty much say what they like now! No one irl will listen! There may be a few pockets of those that do and those vocal minorities will be the ones screeching at others! I feel for the hospitality trade as they are being royally screwed! As if they shut people will go into each others houses and financially they will need support and the government won't get the taxes they need to support the already crumbling NHS! Where I live pubs have already stated they will stay open and contest the fines and their supporters have already offered to contribute towards any financial costs! Sorry but everyone who wanted or needed a vax has been done plus 1 and over 30 million plus 2! If that's not enough then nothing is! It's ALL got to stop now!

FanGirlX · 25/12/2021 17:20

If they are leaking things to the Daily Mail to soften us up then some kind of lockdown til March appears to be on the cards. Whether it will be a full lockdown, or a lockdown lite, who knows.

ShepherdMoons · 25/12/2021 17:28

It's all over the media that there will be more hospitalisations than last January even if we lockdown now. The problem is that the government don't want to do anything.

Svara · 25/12/2021 17:36

It's pretty irrelevant to me now what they choose to do themselves, I won't be joining in and will continue to see friends and family who don't want to play either.

Roselilly36 · 25/12/2021 17:55

Tory backbencher will want the hospital figures to be proved for another lockdown even to be considered, and rightly so.

Livelifeinthebuslane · 25/12/2021 18:06

Problem is Labour will probably want an even harder lockdown....

Kljnmw3459 · 25/12/2021 18:12

No I don't think there will be any lockdowns now. Mask wearing might continue for a while, some restrictions on big gatherings but that's it. Omicron seems to lead to less deaths and hospitalisations than other variants so that's why I don't expect any more lockdowns now.

CovidCurious · 25/12/2021 18:15

It seems quite possible that there may be some further restrictions brought in before NYE. The last hospital figures for London were nearly 390 and according to reports I have read 400 is the red line they must cross for more restrictions. Except of course the figures don't get fully reported over a holiday period at the normal intervals so they will be working off incomplete data.

If a decision is made on Monday to recall parliament then I think restrictions could start on 29 December at the absolute earliest. Probably not until 30 December. It's hard to say whether they would be along the lines of Wales, Scotland or the worse restrictions of step 2 of the old roadmap which the media keep vaunting and which would shut hospitality altogether bar eating outside.

southeastdweller · 25/12/2021 18:16

There won’t be anymore lockdowns, we can’t afford it and the government know this. There’s no need for one anyway.
