myocarditis and covid jab

Hi , my dd has just had the 1st covid jab , I’ve received a letter from the NHS to book a second one . I’m weighing up her catching covid & having the vaccine . My concern is myocarditis and covid jab . Will your teen be getting the second jab ?

The risk is absolutely tiny and I believe that in those who developed this were mainly boys. It is worrying the amount of children now being admitted to hospital, so I think if my child was recommended to have the vaccine I would let them.

Yes, already booked. Risk of getting myocarditis from vaccine is way lower than getting it from covid.

If you read the research properly, there is a higher chance of myocardial problems from catching covid than there is with the actual vaccine.

My teens are all going to have it.

I did worry about this. I was advised to lengthen the gap between jabs to 8 weeks. As I understand it, young men are more at risk than young women.

I know the risk is infinitesimal but it is a risk and I wanted to know if done what I could to minimise that risk.

I am in NZ where we have had two vaccine related deaths from myocarditis, one in a woman with other health problems and one in a perfectly healthy young man.

Look at the risk of getting myocarditis after covid call after the jab.
That should make the decision very easy.

It’s really her decision anyway.

Risk is higher with Covid for myocarditis. It really is such a tiny risk with the vaccine.

If they want to travel at all this year then they’ll need to be double jabbed.

To be honest I don’t worry about Covid for my children though (12,11). 11 year old had it and was asymptomatic.

It’s the restriction on their lives if they aren’t vaccinated which I guess is a different issue.

Yep all 3 teens are double jabbed and have been since October, risk of myocarditis is significantly higher when if catch covid, so protection against severe illness is much less risky.

Ds (15) is getting his in a couple of weeks. My dd (18) has had her 2nd jab now.

How old are they? Weight up the risks. If they're under 16 getting ill from either at this point is pretty low. Although I'm aware you can have heart issues like myocarditis from covid, I have never heard of a young person having it, whereas I have with the vaccine. Doesn't mean they haven't, but I've just not come across someone who has.

My DS's 10/11yr old class mates that have had it have pretty much all been asymptomatic. A couple had cold like symptoms. That's it.

My 13 and 16 years old had their second vaccine last month. They had no doubts over having it, either before or after hearing of any potential risks.

More likely to get myocarditis with covid than from the vaccine

dd1 has had both. Dd2 will be.

They were both quiet poorly with covid and the risks are higher with covid compared to the vaccine.

They don’t actually know this for sure given the whole comparison is based on hospital admissions data.

My son had some cardiac event after dose 1, it’s never been reported anywhere, not even the yellow card system.

Others I know have had their heart checked afterwards because of strange effects and doctors have dismissed the vaccine being involved so it wouldn’t appear on any notes anywhere.

I’m not saying it’s not true, but I don’t think you can say with any certainty that it is true, the data just isn’t reliable.
