No masks ffs

Took my two dc to the evening showing of Spider-Man last night and the cinema was pretty much full with hardly anyone wearing a mask. I was really shocked. I thought this was a rule now in indoor spaces and after I made the booking I received an email from the cinema chain saying that everyone was expected to wear make inside unless exempt. It was really hot in there and no distancing (previously I think cinemas made some seats unavailable to create bigger spaces between people). I just felt really uncomfortable.

Obviously I realise I could have got up and left but didn't want to disappoint two excited kids. Plus they've both had it recently so it was only really me at risk.

Has anyone else experienced this in cinemas? With rates so high and it being close to Christmas I just would have thought people might be more careful.

It is, its a huge flat hut bubbly waffle with two or three scoops of ice cream, some broken chocolate bar on top, sauce and sprinkles. I'd say 20 minutes, you need to be mindful off melting

SleepingStandingUp · 24/12/2021 14:30

Their pizza is freshly made too

FourTeaFallOut · 24/12/2021 14:33

Ice cream and chocolate sauce, balanced on a flat waffle? There's no way I could eat that in the dark without coming out of the cinema without looking like a toddler at a party.

SleepingStandingUp · 24/12/2021 14:35

You forgot the broken up chocolate bar. I had kinder bueno and I ate it during the brighter adverts 😂

SleepingStandingUp · 24/12/2021 14:36

It does come in a shallow but firm box too which helps

VikingOnTheFridge · 24/12/2021 15:25

@Silverswirl

The how long should you be allowed to eat pop corn for in the cinema posts are the 2021 version of ‘put cheese in your tea’ posts of 2020 🤣🤣🤣🤣
100%! This thread surely belongs in Classics.

🤤

I hadn’t heard of such a waffle, I’m determined to try one now

LumosSolem · 24/12/2021 15:38

I really want one of those waffles now (I'm sure they're more than 800 calories, we must be disgusting irresponsible pigs) 😁

I think it's ok as long as you eat it through your mask.
soredust · 24/12/2021 16:24

But if you were wearing masks and masks work, then what's the problem, you were protected Confused.

Also, perhaps all the non-mask wearers had hidden disabilities and were exempt?

Peaseblossum22 · 24/12/2021 16:26

Masks do work but they have limits . It’s like wearing anti mozzie stuff . If there are one or two miscues it will probably be enough but if you walk into a mozzie nest them if probably won’t be enough

LumosSolem · 24/12/2021 16:38

@VikingOnTheFridge well the masks will lessen the calories 😁

VikingOnTheFridge · 24/12/2021 18:36

I suppose you'd get less of it in your mouth. Might be onto something there!

BunsyGirl · 24/12/2021 19:06

I went last week and no one wore a mask once sat down. It was an Everyman though so eating and drinking is a big part of the experience. Was great. Would have gone sooner had I known.

VeganCow · 24/12/2021 19:16

Went to a gig a couple of weeks ago and hardly anyone was wearing a mask. Didn't bother me and was glad not to have to. If you're that bothered then don't go out in a crowd. All you can do is take responsibility for your own health and get jabbed and wear a mask yourself if you want, you can't police other people!

Lifeisnteasy · 24/12/2021 19:28

This thread has inspired me to book a cinema trip for me & DH.

bluetongue · 24/12/2021 19:35

As others have said, even if everyone wore masks the entire time a cinema is not the place to go right now if you’re worried about Covid.

The government cannot remove all risk re Covid, especially with a strain as infectious as Omicron. There is also personal responsibility as to the level of exposure you’re comfortable with.

Are that silly to believe everyone will wear a mask inside a cinema...? Who's wearing a mask in the pub? Who will POLICE these entertainment hubs and force individuals to wear a face mask?

Def more than that. I love our cinema - the converted part to a bar selling freshly made pizzas and ice cream
Zander44 · 24/12/2021 23:25

I went to the cinema with my husband a few days ago, (saw The new Matrix) and we had the entire row to ourselves. There were only 6 other people in the cinema. Everyone spaced out and wore masks. The guy who works there kept popping in to check as well. I felt quite comfortable.

SleepingStandingUp · 24/12/2021 23:37

That's cos you saw Matrix not Spiderman 😂

The guy popping in is not to check mask wearing. It’ll be to check for people illegally recording.
Willyoujustbequiet · 25/12/2021 16:40

Yanbu. I actually posted about this the other week and was derided by a few ignorant posters that mocked the idea that vulnerable people might want to visit the cinema.

We walked out in the end. Too many idiots. It's not worth it.

ExcaliburBaby · 26/12/2021 08:50

Can’t believe a poster is acting all OUTRAGED that someone would dare to eat a MEDIUM popcorn at the cinema 🙄😂 it’s like an absolute standard cinema snack. Some people are such joy sponges it’s unreal.
