No masks ffs

Took my two dc to the evening showing of Spider-Man last night and the cinema was pretty much full with hardly anyone wearing a mask. I was really shocked. I thought this was a rule now in indoor spaces and after I made the booking I received an email from the cinema chain saying that everyone was expected to wear make inside unless exempt. It was really hot in there and no distancing (previously I think cinemas made some seats unavailable to create bigger spaces between people). I just felt really uncomfortable.

Obviously I realise I could have got up and left but didn't want to disappoint two excited kids. Plus they've both had it recently so it was only really me at risk.

Has anyone else experienced this in cinemas? With rates so high and it being close to Christmas I just would have thought people might be more careful.

I said zero about the NHS.
I was and am still surprised that someone would eat so much junk food that it lasts two hours. But okay some people do. But it wont be most people in the cinema.

RosesAndHellebores · 24/12/2021 11:30

DD and I made one small tub of popcorn last two hours in the cinema the other day!

RoyalFamilyFan · 24/12/2021 11:31

Yeah that is stringing it out. Like people on a train eating a sandwich over 2 hours to avoid wearing a mask.

RosesAndHellebores · 24/12/2021 11:32

It wasn't to avoid wearing a mask we are just dainty eaters Grin

MarshaBradyo · 24/12/2021 11:33

Lol at people upset at popcorn being eaten too slowly.

Avoid the cinema if that’s so bad to you.

Crazy

Lol no, you just decided to play Gillian McKeith and give a calorie count on a medium popcorn 😂

There you go @RoyalFamilyFan, have a Biscuit, if the calories aren't too shocking for you.

I'm off to have chocolate Yule log for breakfast, mmmmmmmmmm!

pradavilla · 24/12/2021 11:34

I've been to the cinema and everyone wore them walking around but not when seated. I was aware your only supposed to take them off when eating or drinking but it wasn't enforced, thankfully. Also I was eating and drinking every now and then so wld have been mask on mask off every 5mins or so absolutely pointless. I wldnt have wanted to stay while being sweltered under a mask for 2.5-3hrs.

The how long should you be allowed to eat pop corn for in the cinema posts are the 2021 version of ‘put cheese in your tea’ posts of 2020 🤣🤣🤣🤣

DS will graze on popcorn for a whole movie. He isn't a scoffy chops like some on here, guzzling all his good down without pause for breath. I have to make my drink last all movie or I'll need to pee at the exciting bit.

As long as you can hold your breath for 😂
Beadebaser · 24/12/2021 12:04

I am curious about cheese in tea - has anyone tried it?

I’m thinking Wensleydale would taste better than Brie.

Dunking biscuits in red wine is quite nice.

SleepingStandingUp · 24/12/2021 12:04

@JohnSmithDrive

People will have justified it to themselves because they were eating and really what differnece would it make if they were intermittently removing it to eat and drink compared to not wearing one at all.?

Cinema is probably something to avoid if you're worried about contacts. TBH I'm surprised it was busy, all social things seem very quiet here as people are choosing to stay away.

It's SPIDERMAN
SleepingStandingUp · 24/12/2021 12:05

How long do I get to eat my pizza in the cinema??

tatkin · 24/12/2021 12:07

So lockdown after all. Was a news blackout but presser just finished

Eh?
Beadebaser · 24/12/2021 12:09

What lockdown? @tatkin

LumosSolem · 24/12/2021 12:09

Should I blend my tiny portion of popcorn and make a hole in my mask for a straw to fit through, then kind of suck the pulverised popcorn through it?

Just so I can feel morally superior on Mumsnet to disgusting people who put all of humanity at risk by eating a medium sized popcorn and taking the length of a film to do so.

Whammyyammy · 24/12/2021 12:11

Perhaps the cinemas could state that popcorn is to be eaten within a set time limit? Say 5 mins for small, 10 for medium and 15 for large? You could buy extra minutes at the pic n mix counter too?

That will keep the granny killing popcorn munchers in check

Beadebaser · 24/12/2021 12:13

Or would a snorkel work? You could drop popcorn down the opening…

MajorCarolDanvers · 24/12/2021 12:14

I'm in Scotland. Even though against the rule nearly everyone wips the mask off when they sit down.

bigred22 · 24/12/2021 12:14

If you're that concerned going to the cinema in the holidays to see a new film is not where you should be 🤷🏻‍♀️ Is a mask really going to stop the spread when you're together for so long and people would be taking it off regularly to eat/drink anyway

Whammyyammy · 24/12/2021 12:14

Would these be ok for the cinema

No masks ffs
SleepingStandingUp · 24/12/2021 12:15

@Whammyyammy but what about my chicken pizza??? Or my bubble waffle. It cost £7, I'm not SCOFFING it

Beadebaser · 24/12/2021 12:15

Or cinemas could set up an intravenous popcorn drip by each seat.

Lifeisnteasy · 24/12/2021 12:19

Good nice to hear people are out & enjoying themselves.
