There's the headlines for tomorrow.

Plan your Christmas now. No restrictions.

BarefootHippieChick · 21/12/2021 18:04

No restrictions this Christmas, but then he's locking us down from New Year's Eve until December 26th 2022 😆

Ceramide · 21/12/2021 18:05

He's Damned if he does and damned If he doesn't really

This. Put in a new lockdown now? Cue many people very disappointed, making angry comments, ignoring the instructions, complaining it isn't necessary etc.

MarshaBradyo · 21/12/2021 18:07

If it was before Christmas people would be angrier but still angry no restrictions for some

Next up escaping them afterwards too hopefully

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/12/2021 18:08

@Waxonwaxoff0

Christmas yes, but I want to know whether I'll be going on my holiday on the 27th!
Then we went to school and work for 1 day!
MousesBack · 21/12/2021 18:09

He's merely trying to save his own job.

campion · 21/12/2021 18:11

Is this so I'll vote for him?
It didnt work.

Judging by the vox pops in York on last night's News there's not a cat in hell's chance of people saying 'Oh OK, we'll give up our family Christmas again'.

christmaspop · 21/12/2021 18:11

@HerbertChops

We’re booked to have Christmas lunch in a restaurant, first time ever after two years of booking and cancelling, just been pinged twice today after an event Sunday am crossing everything but also just ran out and bought a turkey crown 😬
We weren't in the pandemic at Christmas 2019 so why have you cancelled for 2 years?
ilovesooty · 21/12/2021 18:12

@Justmuddlingalong

The only thing he's trying to save is his arse.
Agreed. Has he fuck saved Christmas. He's dithering and doing nothing because he's trying to save his popularity with the dwindling number of deluded people who still support him and because he's afraid of his backbenchers.
BigGreen · 21/12/2021 18:13

How did he save it? We have locked ourselves down since he hasn't got one iota of moral courage or leadership. I'm not sure I'll get to see family this year anyway since we've had so many close contacts. Covid is rife here in London.

christmaspop · 21/12/2021 18:13

@x2boys

He's Damned if he does and damned If he doesn't really .
So true.

I don't like Boris but equally would really not want to making these decisions

MarshaBradyo · 21/12/2021 18:14

Should it have been cancelled in your view?

Figgygal · 21/12/2021 18:14

I wouldnt credit that man for a thing

icelolly12 · 21/12/2021 18:14

Well he knows a significant proportion of the nation wouldn't care or listen to what he said anyway.

Vapeyvapevape · 21/12/2021 18:15

He wouldn’t have dared to cancel Christmas a second time, I reckon there’ll be restrictions after though.

cantkeepawayforever · 21/12/2021 18:15

He's relying on infection rates limiting mixing anyway - I don't know anyone with original Christmas plans going ahead, as everyone has at least 1 case of Covid amongst the family.

User135644 · 21/12/2021 18:17

@x2boys

He's Damned if he does and damned If he doesn't really .
That's what being a PM is though. You can never please everyone.

I'm not sure. I don't suppose many people would have taken any notice anyway. The continued silence and lack of any decision from the government is unacceptable though. He needs to recall parliament in my view but I think he's too afraid to.
thewhatsit · 21/12/2021 18:17

By the sounds of it it wasn’t even him was it? He went to the cabinet proposing lockdown and was overruled and is too weak right now to do anything about it…

MarshaBradyo · 21/12/2021 18:21

Ilovesooty I think the reality would have been huge upset if cancelled, many would have altered plans and been incredibly sad

But also listening to Farrar this morning who said we are in very uncertain place and data is due in next couple of days, I think he’s been very pro early restrictions (SAGE) so I do think we are waiting.

With numbers things could be showing glimmer of hope (see data thread) probably too early to say but if we avoid harsh restrictions I’ll be incredibly relieved

I think that's a fair assessment.
Roselilly36 · 21/12/2021 18:24

Oh yes, let’s clap our hands in joy, haven’t we been good for the gov to allow us Christmas with our families. I can’t believe all this madness, I really can’t.

MilitantFaucet · 21/12/2021 18:25

He hasn’t saved Christmas what absolute nonsense. He’s delayed the inevitable and more people and businesses will suffer as a result. He’s weaker than ever.

FrownedUpon · 21/12/2021 18:25

Can actually relax & look forward to Xmas now. Won’t be surprised if there’s a lockdown from 27/28th though.

Tinacollada · 21/12/2021 18:27

Has he fuck saved it 😂

Tealightsandd · 21/12/2021 18:32

An event cancelled is better than a life cancelled," said Dr Ghebreyesus on Monday.

It’s better to cancel now and celebrate later than to celebrate now and grieve later."

the short term, Dr Ghebreyesus said holiday festivities would in many places lead to "increased cases, overwhelmed health systems and more deaths" and urged people to postpone gatherings.

Personally I trust the opinion of the head of the WHO over Boris and his backbench MPs.

'Save' is very subjective.
