There's the headlines for tomorrow.

Plan your Christmas now. No restrictions.

Bobholll · 21/12/2021 17:30

None of the leaders have gone for full lockdowns even after Christmas. I’m actually finally relaxing & believing our Christmas plans will go ahead so long as non of us actually catch it 🙏🏼

JanglyBeads · 21/12/2021 17:32

That depends whether you listen to the scientists and medics OP.

TheCloudsHavePassed · 21/12/2021 17:32

He didn't save it. He just made it legal for us to have it. Ridiculous isn't it 🤣

God knows what will happen next 🤔

User135644 · 21/12/2021 17:32

Glad we can enjoy Christmas now.

OP posts:
HerbertChops · 21/12/2021 17:33

We’re booked to have Christmas lunch in a restaurant, first time ever after two years of booking and cancelling, just been pinged twice today after an event Sunday am crossing everything but also just ran out and bought a turkey crown 😬

the80sweregreat · 21/12/2021 17:34

Hmm, it is a tough one.
It's a bit late now to start changing things plus who will listen now to be perfectly honest?
I can imagine the scientists and the NHS workers are not impressed, but if the data and the figures do not support any more restrictions then what are they meant to do ?
What would people on here do ?
I do feel for the staff in the hospitals though

MostNamesAreTaken · 21/12/2021 17:34

We are meeting extended family after Christmas day, so it still seems uncertain. I guess so it should be given the uncertainties of the pandemic. It would be wrong if the government tried to second guess what will happen in the next 5 days and made firm decisions either way.

PieMistee · 21/12/2021 17:36

Fuck off had he saved it. He is a useless, lying twat who wouldn't dare do anything that affected his tattered support. I would want him to get Omicron and feel shit but he has a new born so can't.

the80sweregreat · 21/12/2021 17:36

One of the papers had Boris Johnson as the Grinch the other day.
Tomorrow it'll be a happy photo of him in a Santa hat !

TheCloudsHavePassed · 21/12/2021 17:36

I'm seeing my parents on the 28th. Anyone's guess if that will happen. We all know he will likely announce the night before to stop people from moving about too much. Or maybe it's just not as bad as we thought 🤷 and the media are just cackling away to themselves somewhere

MollyQueenOfSocks · 21/12/2021 17:37

He didn't do anything except try and save his own arse?

ifonly4 · 21/12/2021 17:42

Don't mean to sound cynical, but nothing would surprise me any more. Very lucky though as we've a planned simple and hopefully safe xmas anyway - just us and Mum and other family meet ups have been changed to outside by us or others, so restrictions probably won't affect us.

Really hoping many can have the xmas they've planned though.

"HerbertChops" hope you can have the xmas you planned. Either way, you've got some turkey to enjoy for a meal either now or at a later stageGrin

Thewiseoneincognito · 21/12/2021 17:49

He hasn’t saved Christmas, he’s saved his job- for now. The fall out from Christmas mixing would be catastrophic regardless of whether he says it’s right or wrong to do so. The majority of those who would have listened to the guidance will no doubt be avoiding mixing anyway or will at the very least follow his recommendation to test before events and have good ventilation..

Remember this is what happened last year. Then the day before NYE we locked down…

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2021 17:51

Christmas yes, but I want to know whether I'll be going on my holiday on the 27th!

Ylvamoon · 21/12/2021 17:54

... not really bothered about Christmas. We have done just us for years.

New year however....

x2boys · 21/12/2021 17:56

My boys have both just tested positive ,so our Xmas plans are screwed 😭

Fairylights25 · 21/12/2021 17:56

He has taken a HUGE risk by making this decision, so all credit to him, as I am sure he is going to get flak whatever he decides to do. He is in a total lose lose situation and I really feel for the gov these days. I would NOT want to be in that position ever with so many lives at stake, businesses trying to survive, people's mental health in tatters. Childhoods being ruined, it is just too much pressure. Jesus wept.

I am super happy this evening that we can confidently proceed, and we won't all be in tears again this year. My mother is the happiest I have heard her in months!! :) Going to make a Christmas cocktail to celebrate now :)

Justmuddlingalong · 21/12/2021 17:58

The only thing he's trying to save is his arse.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 21/12/2021 17:58

He hasn't 'saved' anything. If you look at countless threads over the last week or two many, many people were already going to do their Christmas their way regardless of any restrictions - me included. All he's done is made it 'legal'.

Ffs there's a headline you never thought you'd read: BORIS MAKES MIXING WITH YOUR OWN FAMILY LEGAL THIS CHRISTMAS.

Jesus.

cherryonthecakes · 21/12/2021 17:59

He didn't save it- nobody was going to comply so it would be pointless to even try.

x2boys · 21/12/2021 17:59

He's Damned if he does and damned If he doesn't really .

VikingOnTheFridge · 21/12/2021 18:01

Yes, all he's done here is made clear that he knows any attempt to introduce restrictions before Christmas would be widely flouted and cost him his job. Tbh it's touch and go whether he'd hold on if he tries it afterwards.

Yes, sums it up:( Plus more deaths ( no doubt about that ) more debt too I hate this virus !
Remmy123 · 21/12/2021 18:02

My Christmas was always going ahead!

MarshaBradyo · 21/12/2021 18:03

I’m very relieved
