Most likely scenario is a 2 week circuit breaker on the 28th, which gives enough time to recall parliament.

So, if you wish, you can Christmas away with your loved ones to your heart's content.

If you go on Gov.com and search for sick notes it says that you don’t need sick notes for employer between 17th December and 26th of January as because of Covid.
What does that mean???
Does this suggest lockdown?

Clearly not as 17th was three days ago. Confused

It's because GPs are putting much of their routine work on hold to focus on the boosters, so instead of someone booking a GP appointment just to get a sick note, during the time period you have mentioned, people can self-certify instead for up to 28 days.
pastypirate · 20/12/2021 16:20

So I went on government website and found this

www.gov.uk/taking-sick-leave

Doesn't give the dates in pp but says after 10/12/21 you only need a sick note for longer than 28 days off sick which looks odd to me I'm sure it was only 7 days self certifying before!

Lol

PilatesPeach · 20/12/2021 16:23

What is a circuit breaker? How is this different to lockdown in particular for those of us who work in hospitality and leisure ie we rely on the public? Will we get govt help if we cannot work???

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 20/12/2021 16:25

@Fishlipandtoeface

Oh here we go the misery Olympics. I’m out.
Your compassion for a poster whose mother died in pain over Christmas is stunning
Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/12/2021 16:28

I'm due to go away on the 27th so hopefully it will be announced this week if there's a circuit breaker!

Goodness me - that’s a new one that’s slipped by. Don’t think our staff handbook has been updated to say you can self certify for the best part of a month 😀. I guess it’s to free up HCP time from down nag sick notes for they can start boosting now

It will have to be announced this week won’t it. If it needs parliament to be recalled and to vote on it? They’ll have to do that pretty sharpish before the long weekend.
pastypirate · 20/12/2021 16:32

@MyrtlethePurpleTurtle yeh ikr. A month!!!!!

Bluntness100 · 20/12/2021 16:37

I doubt there will be a circuit breaker, it’s back to thr ban on indoor socialising, rule of six out doors, pubs only operating out doors etc. the number of admissions and deaths would need to hugely increase in the next few days to make cancelling new year acceptable to the public. And that looks highly unlikely to happen.

Cheetosyummy · 20/12/2021 16:39

@nordica thank you.
Some people on FB were posting as it apparently means lockdown hint but it seemed strange to me as 17th was already…
It makes sense now.

GatoradeMeBitch · 20/12/2021 16:42

I wouldn't accept Christmas restrictions announced in Christmas week anyway. Everyone who is going to be at mine has had double vaccs and boosters, we'll all do tests before and on the day. I'm happy with that.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 20/12/2021 16:43

@trappedsincesundaymorn

So, once again, those working over Christmas/New year are going to miss out on seeing their loved ones after. Fucking marvellous.
How does this vary from any other Christmas? Were you hoping for a lockdown so the business at which you work would be closed?

I guess they meant that they are working Christmas Day so were planning on seeing family a day or two later, and now won’t be able to.

frazzledali · 20/12/2021 16:48

@LadyCatStark

I don’t care whether there are restrictions or not, I’ll be having the Christmas I want!
or you'll scream and you'll scream and you'll scream till you're sick?
Bluntness100 · 20/12/2021 16:51

I think the media has so much to answer to, they whip some folks up into a frenzy. It’s a sad fact that folks can’t look at rhe data and understand the situation better but they read rags like the mail and panic themselves.

There is no curbs becayse hospital admissions are low. Deaths are declining. Over half the population is now boosted. Omicron is not translating into hospital admissions and deaths like delta did, we can all see that. Unless something drastically changes in the next few days there will be no lock down next week.

TheCloudsHavePassed · 20/12/2021 16:53

Now saying in sky Boris is set to make an announcement shortly

TheCloudsHavePassed · 20/12/2021 16:53

On Sky sorry

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 20/12/2021 16:54

@TheMoth

Round here, kids weren't due to go back until the 10th anyway. But the 2 inset days teachers were having have more been moved to later in the year.

I work in England, so I'll be there, bright eyed and bushy tailed on the 4th.

And we’ll all catch Omicron and be off on the 6th anyway.

Man proposes and God disposes…

It’s not just the media reporting stuff that isn’t there though. Hasn’t Sage specifically called for pre-Christmas restrictions in their documents that get released, so not just “sources say”?

@BrightYellowDaffodil its different because usually we would see family after Christmas. So my DH and my uncle are working Christmas day, but we'd planned to all visit my grandma for the 27 - 29th. If the government "saves Christmas" by imposing a lockdown from the 28th, we can't do that any more.

I'm really fed up tbh. DH and I had Covid last Christmas (both NHS workers, he got it from doing a home visit I think). In the last year my mum has had cancer, needing two operations, chemo that nearly made her suicidal and radiotherapy. Y grandma has had a life changing medical diagnosis, has had several falls, spent weeks on her own in a rehab facility where we could only talk through a window, is in constant pain and now seems to have the beginnings of a cognitive impairment.

I was really really looking forward to some normal, ordinary family time because I don't know how much of that we have left. If we have to cancel everything or some things so be it, but my goodness I wish the government would make up their minds and tell us rather than this constant drip drip of rumour and speculation.
