They're not going to impose new restrictions today

Most likely scenario is a 2 week circuit breaker on the 28th, which gives enough time to recall parliament.

So, if you wish, you can Christmas away with your loved ones to your heart's content.

@Muthalucka

Who actually thought they were bringing in new restrictions? Just because people on here say something over and over and over it doesn’t make it true.
Media have been reporting on this for the past week or so. Scotland and Wales tightening restrictions makes England more likely to do the same doesn't you think.
MzHz · 20/12/2021 15:48

@Fishlipandtoeface

Oh here we go the misery Olympics. I’m out.
Quite!

My life is already bloody curtailed thanks to this bloody virus and “being careful”. I’m responsible and sensible but ffs, a circuit breaker wrings the last bit of joy from it.

5128gap · 20/12/2021 15:48

@SenseSphere

Christmas spent wondering if the plans you’ve made will actually happen is, to put it mildly, shite.
Absolutely. Like the OP I lost my mother at Christmas in tragic circumstances, and have also experienced some of the worst festive seasons imaginable, for other reasons. This gives me zero 'perspective' on the current situation if what that means is being ok about my plans being cancelled, just because I'm unlikely to be bereaved again. Its a horrible stressful situation to be in, and Christmases past that were worse dont change that at all.
OutOfBounds · 20/12/2021 15:48

We're staying at home for Christmas Day but due to travel from Scotland to England on the 27th to stay with family until after NY.

If it takes 48h for parliament to be recalled do they sit on the 28th and it's from that evening or what? 27th & 28th are the respective bank holidays are they not?

Hate this drip drip of news of potential restrictions (MSPs in Scotland are particularly guilty of this!)

LittleGwyneth · 20/12/2021 15:49

@GoldenOmber

I’m glad they’re not, but I’m not much looking forward to a Christmas with my loved ones still stressing about whether or when I need to change my plans to travel back home again on 48 hours’ notice.
Don't! Whether you travel home on the 30th or 28th should be entirely your judgement. And honestly people travelling in dribs and drabs is far far better for not turning public transport into even more of a hotbed for infection. I honestly think we all need to use our own judgement on how we approach whatever restrictions come in. Please try to enjoy your Christmas.
beenthereboughtthetshirt · 20/12/2021 15:49

@AnyFucker

Is this official or more speculation ?
exactly.....
GoldenOmber · 20/12/2021 15:50

What does the sigh mean @GoldenOmber?

It is short for “it’s a bit frustrating to repeatedly get this clueless ‘but why on Earth would anyone change their plans just because Boris says so?’ sort of reaction when for some of us there are real practical implications to what Boris says which would change our plans for us, and this has been pointed our several times on the thread already.”

Christmas spent waiting for your beloved father to slip away ( which he did during Christmas night ) is shite. Disrupted holiday plans are annoying.
mildtomoderate · 20/12/2021 15:53

Jesus Christ @daisychain01 who pissed on your chips today? I don't for a second imagine I am in any kind of position to grant freedom to anyone. I'm just sharing news that I read online. Do what you want.

@cherryonthecakes Has there been a Welsh update? The last I heard was Welsh schools being given 2 planning days at the start of term so instead of being back on the 4th they go back on the 6th January.

lifeturnsonadime · 20/12/2021 15:59

Good grief people ARE allowed to feel that it's shite not knowing what's around the corner with regards to potential restrictions.

Uncertainty is really anxiety inducing. We've all had a shocking couple of years and having thought that we were on the way out of this it's really tough.

Really sad to see that people on this thread feel that some other peoples feelings are not valid.

But I do wish the Government would make some comment as to the likely scenarios in which we will need further restrictions. For small business owners this is essential, as a pub landlord posted on twitter earlier, how on earth do they know how much beer to order at what would normally be the busiest time of year?

trappedsincesundaymorn · 20/12/2021 16:00

So, once again, those working over Christmas/New year are going to miss out on seeing their loved ones after. Fucking marvellous.

Moonopoly · 20/12/2021 16:01

This isn’t being reported anywhere else (apart from The Sun) yet. Also this would have been 30 minutes after the meeting began so hardly time for an in depth discussions?!

I'm not in Wales but didn't nightclubs just shut down etc? I was under the impression that it's a very new restriction

Viviennemary · 20/12/2021 16:04

They can whistle. Christmas dinner with numerous folk can be a meeting of the family business.

You would, I guarantee, feel less shite if you'd spent an entire Christmas Day by the bed of a dying much beloved close relative, waiting for them to die. Almost wishing for it, to put an end to the pain they are in.
OP posts:
SpudleyLass · 20/12/2021 16:05

This could prove to be a headache for my family, so yes we would have to consider changing our plans depending on what Boris says.

We'll be to see my parents and siblings (25th and 26th respectively) but we had been planning on travelling down South on the 27th to see my husband's family, staying that night and possibly the night of the 28th.

So yes, there is a possibility we'll have to reconsider for the sake of my in laws, who are in their 70s and understandably, don't want to catch the virus.

I really bloody hope they state whats coming ASAP. Nobody needs the uncertainty, its not fair.

Bluntness100 · 20/12/2021 16:07

It would have to get a lot worse for a circuit breaker on the 28th, and it’s highly unlikely to hit that by then, likely to do something in the new year, if anything, but if hospital admissions don’t rise too much and deaths stay low then nothing will be needed or done.

All this speculation. The data isn’t there yet but it’s nearly there and omicron is not resulting in the same admissions and deaths as delta. Plus every day more people get boosted.

mildtomoderate · 20/12/2021 16:07

@OrangeCrunch

Why hasn't this hit the headlines yet?
It has.

DinosaurOfFire · 20/12/2021 16:08

@cherryonthecakes Nightclubs will be closing from the 27th, they are open until then. Thats when the new restrictions that have been announced will be in place- a return to 2m social distancing, limits on numbers of people in shops, a return to one way systems again. Currently nothing else is changing, although there is a meeting today to discuss things and there will also be an update on Friday as we are having weekly updates now instead of every third week. I was thinking I had missed a schools announcement somewhere along the way! Our school had only just sent letters home last Friday with the current new term dates.

lifeturnsonadime · 20/12/2021 16:09

I'm very sorry you have experienced that. I've experienced some really awful things in my life, some that I feel are worse than you are describing. It doesn't give me the right to tell people that the way THEY are feeling about impending restrictions are invalid.

Bluntness100 · 20/12/2021 16:10

Todays stats

Deaths fortunately still declining, hospital admissions only six percent up but over two million more tests being done.

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

Bluntness100 · 20/12/2021 16:11

I suspect it’s like Chris witty said, people who are hospitalised are turned over quicker and tend to be released within forty eight hours. So in and out quickly. 90 percent not vaccinated of those admissions, who are the people at risk.

Charles11 · 20/12/2021 16:11

They’ll restrict us then we’ll discover how they still carried on with their parties without any fear whatsoever.
