Most likely scenario is a 2 week circuit breaker on the 28th, which gives enough time to recall parliament.

So, if you wish, you can Christmas away with your loved ones to your heart's content.

@Mybalconyiscracking

Meaning the children will miss another week of school! Id rather miss bloody Christmas quite honestly!
Definitely this.

And we all knows what happens with two weeks...

Muthalucka · 20/12/2021 15:23

Who actually thought they were bringing in new restrictions? Just because people on here say something over and over and over it doesn’t make it true.

Moonopoly · 20/12/2021 15:24

@Muthalucka all of the media outlets were reporting he was deciding on 3 choices. Non of those reported were ‘do nothing’

Explosivefarts · 20/12/2021 15:25

Will schools not open in two week circuit breaker?

fourdayholiday · 20/12/2021 15:26

This is not a surprise. Welsh starting restrictions after Christmas.

Justcannotbearsed · 20/12/2021 15:26

I really don't think they are going to either, but I think they will after Christmas. It's a bit of a gamble...but I think they are counting on lots of people being a bit careful so they don't have to isolate over Christmas, then bring in restrictions in betweeen Christmas and New Year.

But no school closures or furlough.

TheMoth · 20/12/2021 15:28

Round here, kids weren't due to go back until the 10th anyway. But the 2 inset days teachers were having have more been moved to later in the year.

I work in England, so I'll be there, bright eyed and bushy tailed on the 4th.

GoldenOmber · 20/12/2021 15:29

Really didn’t think people would travel home a day or two earlier, for example, because Boris told them too.

In my case, it’s not so much because Boris would tell me to, it’s what that might mean in terms of me being legally allowed to get on a train and travel to a different part of the UK on it. Bearing in mind that when England was in Level 2 last time Scotland still had rules against ‘non-essential’ use of public transport, and intermittent police at the train stations checking.

Jesusstolemyhotrod · 20/12/2021 15:30

Not really arsed about Xmas restrictions, but I do want my nye party.

MumbleCrumbs · 20/12/2021 15:31

Really hoping it is just for two weeks like they say and that the data won't mean it needs extending.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 20/12/2021 15:31

yes but there was always a care exemption in all parts of the UK, so easy enough to say you are visiting elderly relatives for care reasons (even if you are not). Anyway, some MNers think you are elderly if you are over 40, so it's a relatively easy requirement to meet Grin

Wellbythebloodyhell · 20/12/2021 15:31

Are we supposed to be grateful that we're being "allowed " to see our friends and family over Christmas? This shit show of government are deluded if they believe people will comply with restrictions after the revelations of their antics during this pandemic

Reports on ‘circuit breaker’ haven’t included schools
Orangesandlemons77 · 20/12/2021 15:34

It's in the Times as well, now. Says possible restrictions on hospitality and indoor mixing, from the 28th.

Quite! Especially when some of us, who have had to isolate in the run up to and including Christmas Day have rescheduled planned family celebrations for after the bank holidays!

Who’s up for a work meeting round mine? BYOB and cheese.

If that's true, it falls short of a 'lockdown' or 'circuit breaker'.

Of course, it's all pure speculation at this point.

LadyCatStark · 20/12/2021 15:37

I don’t care whether there are restrictions or not, I’ll be having the Christmas I want!

AchillesLastStand · 20/12/2021 15:38

No I don’t think schools will close either. There’s much so much media coverage of the damage done to children by school closures, I don’t think they’d dare.

OrangeCrunch · 20/12/2021 15:40

Why hasn't this hit the headlines yet?

TicTacHoh · 20/12/2021 15:42

Genuinely 😱 that people would think of changing their Xmas plans based on what Boris says

Is this a responsible message to give, to "Christmas away"?

Whatever people choose to do is their business, in this ongoing global pandemic and who needs your permission to organise how they choose to arrange their Christmas - how about you wind down the emotive language, instead of drumming up some artificial partying, just on your say-so.

It reminds me why I don't bother to read the crap posted on here at the moment. Are you bored OP?

sigh.

Schools in Wales are going back at least a week later.
TrufflesAndToast · 20/12/2021 15:46

What does the sigh mean @GoldenOmber?

Do you actually respect the word or intentions of that man? Because you’re in the minority if you do!

There have been several times I have decided to be more cautious than his rules allowed at the time. Does your sigh extend to me too?
