When will there be an update?

I thought yesterday they were going to give us the update about what will happen regarding restrictions?

I'd rather know than just be left in the dark. I don't mind whether we have a lockdown, circuit breaker or something else but I'd just like to know!

@Scrooge89

My sources (well someone who works for test and trace) said look out for announcement on the 20th and get your food in!
Thanks for the heads up HmmConfusedWink👍🏻

Oh please, as if they’d tell test and trace, why would they need to know in advance? They didn’t even tell the NHS they’d need to have everyone jabbed with a booster by the end of the year until Boris announced it.
FrownedUpon · 19/12/2021 12:39

@Muthalucka

Why are you desperate to know!? Wear a mask, wash your hands, get the booster jab. If you get sick it’s likely to be mild/normal flu. How can you live your life worrying so much?
What a stupid comment. It will affect businesses for start. Good for you sat in your little bubble where a lockdown won’t affect you.
User5329806 · 19/12/2021 12:40

Ha ha, test and trace aka jobsworth on the phone knows the government plans

gettingolderandgrumpy · 19/12/2021 12:40

I’m not fussed either way won’t make a difference to my Christmas, I’m still seeing the people I’ve planned to unless then don’t want to see me of course .

Muthalucka · 19/12/2021 12:41

@FrownedUpon yes you’re right I didn’t consider business. That was wrong of me. I am lucky I don’t have to think about that. Lockdown does affect me and my family in other ways though and as an aside I don’t really like to be called stupid. Fair points on the other points though.

PupInAPram · 19/12/2021 12:41

@Muthalucka do you not feel that comment is a bit short-sighted and insular. Many folk will be hugely negatively impacted by a lock down. Of course folk are anxious. Have a little empathy.

Christmas Eve at 8 p.m. probably!
YellowClouds · 19/12/2021 12:43

My daughter's boyfriend worked for test and trace - he's 22, its an interim job as he's waiting for a start date for a graduate job in the new year. Most of his colleagues are young too. They have absolutely no medical training or insider info and are reading from a script sitting at a laptop in their bedrooms.

I'd take anything about lockdown told by them with an incredibly large pinch of salt!!

Babyroobs · 19/12/2021 12:44

Most people here are vaccinate but there are also an awful lot who aren't. Hopefully that group are mainly young and will not become seriously ill.
I worry more for countries where so much less of the population is vaccinated.

Oh fuck off being so obtuse. Use a modicum of common sense and you'll realise why people want to know. There's always one dickhead Hmm

Tillsforthrills · 19/12/2021 12:46

They did this last year every single time, made the public wait like little children.

jassixa · 19/12/2021 12:51

Who is dying?

Should the vaccinated be locked down to reduce the numbers of unvaccinated dying?

If that is an attempt to stir up panic, it is a very poor one.Xmas Hmm
the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 12:53

Of course people need to know what's going on and with rolling news , online news , rumors and political opinions and interviews this morning as well it's becoming harder to try and decide which way this might go.
People have made plans , they need to know what might change, Christmas is less than a week away now too.

Claudethecat · 19/12/2021 12:55

Last year Wales locked down on the 19th. I am not sure about the rest of the UK.

madmomma · 19/12/2021 12:55

@Iceskatequeen

We don't have the data.

But please can you try to remember that lockdowns also have an enormous effect on peoples health, finances, things such as DV, child abuse, mental health and much much more.

This
Tillsforthrills · 19/12/2021 12:56

@jassixa

Be careful of making sweeping statements like his without further data.

ichundich · 19/12/2021 12:56

My bet is on similar restrictions to Holland for Christmas and Boxing Day, followed by lockdown. Sigh.

JanglyBeads · 19/12/2021 12:58

@SickAndTiredAgain Labour are being briefed by “the scientists who advise the government” - AKA SAGE, presumably, today. Reported on BBC and Sky, latter has the full 11 min interview with Streeting.

Am not sure what a “sneering of COBRA” would look like tbh!

shinynewapple21 · 19/12/2021 12:58

@Muthalucka I would assume people have made plans for the Christmas season and would like some warning in case they need to change these.

SickAndTiredAgain · 19/12/2021 12:58

Johnson announced the no mixing at all over Christmas rules for certain areas (London & the SE?) on the Saturday before Christmas, so that must have been the 19th as well. I think those restrictions started the next day.

Which statement? The one about a mole in Test and Trace?!

julieca · 19/12/2021 13:02

Why would we need to get more food in? The supermarkets will still be open. It is far more likely hospitality will be affected.
