Anyone else going crazy waiting to hear when we’re going to be locked down …

… there’s a weekend meeting of SAGE & government…Oh the anxiety.

I’m supposed to be flying to see my family for Christmas on Tuesday. I am kicking myself for not booking to go earlier! If they announce lockdown before Christmas we’re all shafted aren’t we …?!

@Shehasadiamondinthesky

Why is christmas such a bloody drama - flying here, driving there. Ff's we're in the middle of a pandemic, just stay at home. I'm having christmas on my own at home, I have no intention of inflicting covid on any of my relatives just for the sake of a dinner.
I'm going to my parents.

But it's 5 minutes drive. Not everyone travelling to relatives are travelling and flying everywhere.

But my mum has terminal cancer - so yes driving there for Christmas does matter.

This pandemic will be over in a year or 2. But some of us won't get these times again past that.

No, I’d rather just stay well and not be risking getting sick or spreading sickness

Confusedandworried321 · 18/12/2021 17:33

@CoedenNadolig those aren’t the rules in Wales at all.

SirChenjins · 18/12/2021 17:33

It won't happen. The worst that will happen are tighter restrictions, but it won't be a total lockdown. Many of us will be ill anyway, so a complete lockdown won't be necessary - services and shops will be limited because so many will be ill. It'll be a natural restriction, so people can still travel and mix with friends and family.

worriedatthemoment · 18/12/2021 17:35

Im not sure if they will do before xmas as not sure the will is there to comply by all
Yes they could close pubs/ non essential shops etc which is fine as long as they compensate them , but stoping people going to family i just think too many won't listen
At best they may have more compliance if they ask to stick to 3 households or 8 people or something
But too many people left their family sat on own this year and won't do it again.
I have followed all the rules but i will still go to my parents if we are all well , lft before we go , have a window open , and be as sensible as possible
My ds works in a fast food place and i expect he will be expected to go in no matter what
Don't think we need coffee shops etc open if we have a lockdown after xmas , keep it short but stricter maybe people will be more inclined to be on board then
I know more people saying they won't comply with meeting family that those that will
Many are already keeping there contacts at zero or very min

Oh so because your alone and miserable everyone else should be . Fuck that sorry your alone but really I suspect you don’t really want to be nor do your believe others would want that either .
shreddednips · 18/12/2021 17:36

I wish they would just bloody tell us instead of finding it out through the press and then having to wait around wondering until they deign to tell us what's going on. It shows a profound lack of respect for the public.

It's a shitshow. I'm going to have a glass of wine.

worriedatthemoment · 18/12/2021 17:38

@Shehasadiamondinthesky good for you but for others it means a lot
My nan is 87! She doesn't want to sit home alone for another xmas , my friend has terminal cancer this may be her last so she wants to spend it with them
My mum is struggling with her MH and all this so we will drive 5 mins to see her
Many only see family once a year at xmas, its not wrong for people to want to see family and have other opinions or reasons as to why

2X4B523P · 18/12/2021 17:38

Hope not, I’ve got business meetings arranged with friends and family which can surely still go ahead?

Monkeymilkshake · 18/12/2021 17:39

I dont understand when people talk about the will to comply, like we’re naughty school children.
It’s quite simple, if you mix with people you increase yoir chances of getting ill. There are no beds in hospitals, no one will look after you. You’re bitting your nose to spite your face (or whatever).
We’re all grown ups. We know the risks!

gettingolderandgrumpy · 18/12/2021 17:40

@Svara

Your in isolation for 10 days that’s a week and half why would you need weeks of food ? I’ve isolated several times amazing invention called online shopping and people will provide food if necessary . I’m sure there is the odd person who has little people to ask for help plus unable to get a online shop but I don’t think it’s necessary for the majority to get weeks of shopping in , so yes that’s extreme . I said a few weeks, a small number of weeks. If you have a children who are not old enough to be left home then isolation could easily be two weeks or more if more than one of you is positive. Is it easy to access home delivery now? It was very difficult last year at the start so many may still be planning based on that.
I’ve done isolating for more than 10 days so I know . Online food shopping Christmas week you’ll be lucky but after that you’ll be fine. Sorry but justifying a few weeks of food shop is extreme and ott . We live in England not a 3rd world country plenty of ways to get food you don’t need to stock up so don’t .

The cynic in me is thinking it’s so everyone gets the booster . Scare and control !!
Monkeymilkshake · 18/12/2021 17:41

I’m not having a go at people who want to see family by the way.

Yes this. They quite clearly know what they're going to do. It's so frustrating
worriedatthemoment · 18/12/2021 17:42

@Gwenhwyfar they can enforce shops but would struggle in peoples homes , have you tried getting a poilcemen. They can't go around every home and check who should be there and if they find out after well we all know they can't investigate

worriedatthemoment · 18/12/2021 17:44

@gettingolderandgrumpy the things is not all are eigible my 18 year old only got his jabs in july/ sept as he was 18 in august they only opened to him in july hes not due booster till about 27th dec
My ds 16 had the one jab when allowed but got covid and he can't have his 2nd until 90 days from covid and thats not until jan
There were walk in clinics near me today that were saying they were quiet and to come down

Timeisavirtue · 18/12/2021 17:45

I’d like to know when after Christmas as it’s DS birthday on jan 5th and he has a certain routine. (He has ASD) he always gets his hair cut the day before his birthday so he has a fresh cut (his words not mine) last year it caused a mini meltdown because we had to get his hair cut earlier. He also wants TGI for his birthday meal but he’s getting in a frizz b3cause he doesn’t know if he can and will have to change his plans the same as last year. I know it doesn’t sound big in the thick of things but for him routine is key and covid has fucked his routine too many times.

Dippydinosaurus · 18/12/2021 17:47

@dementedma

Sis due to travel up from London next Thursday. Its not going to happen, is it?
It's fine just drive. There aren't going to be road blocks or extra police and there weren't any last year.

I realise that my teen has 2 jabs but not yet booster . It’s because they are less at risk or so they say . I personally think all children should be offered now.

shreddednips · 18/12/2021 17:48

I wouldn't even mind quite so much if they kept it quiet until they were ready to announce, but once it's leaked I think it completely lacks decency to level with people. The effects of this pandemic, and the government's mismanagement, have been awful for people's mental health and I think this awful limbo feeling is very anxiety-inducing. They really ought to avoid working people up into more of an anxious state than they're already in by stopping leaking things to the press 🤦🏼‍♀️

ILoveHuskies · 18/12/2021 17:49

I'm absolutely shitting it in case they shut hair and beauty down again

I am a self employed semi permanent make up / microblading artist

I have over £2000 pounds worth of work already booked in for January so I will be fucked. Yes I can reschedule if it happens but people may not want to

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 18/12/2021 17:50

Yes! I'd just like to know so we can adjust or alter plans if needed and get our heads around it (again!)

shreddednips · 18/12/2021 17:54

Agreed. Lockdowns (and a pandemic in general) are awful for people's mental health, but the way they are managing it exacerbates the problem by working people up into a sense of dread. Whatever their reasons are for announcing it at a certain time, they ought to say SOMETHING once it's leaked and becomes public knowledge.
SeaDreaming · 18/12/2021 17:58

Double anxious - I'm waiting for a pcr because of a cough since Tues (negative LFTs though); I'm also booked for going away for Xmas by myself, leaving on the 24th, going by train, staying in a hotel. No transport back home until the 27th.

I'm not sure whether I should just cancel it all now tbh, or whether my hotel is likely to cancel anyway..

Daisydoor12 · 18/12/2021 18:00

All these “leaked” reports do nothing for people’s mental health. It’s probably done to “test the water”.

I think everyone has to do what is right for them. This is nearly 2 years in now everyone’s situation is different and no one has the right to criticise/comment on people’s decisions.
