Anyone else going crazy waiting to hear when we’re going to be locked down …

… there’s a weekend meeting of SAGE & government…Oh the anxiety.

I’m supposed to be flying to see my family for Christmas on Tuesday. I am kicking myself for not booking to go earlier! If they announce lockdown before Christmas we’re all shafted aren’t we …?!

@the80sweregreat

I don't blame the young really ; I bet their mums told them to be careful , but when your young your invincible. The pubs are open still , what are they meant to do ? I think it'll be lockdown lite too next few weeks ! Back to arrows and queuing outside the stores :(
Its the older unvaxx ed that are in hospital, regardless of the CV variant.

But i'm not sure BJ will act that severely, he has no credibility with the ERG type MPs.

As one scientist said "its very confusing Govt message, don't go to a xmas party but sporting fixtures and nightclubs are open"

the80sweregreat · 18/12/2021 20:00

I admit that all the anti vaxxers I know are 50 plus.

strawberriesarenot · 18/12/2021 20:05

PinkSparklyPussyCat she lives 80 miles away, and we were not supposed to travel, Derbyshire police were very strict. It was lucky I hadn't told her that I was on the way, because I couldn't have born having to tell her that I wasn't after all.

Benjispruce5 · 18/12/2021 20:06

We need a PM who will lead and protect lives, not his own interests.

More than anything.
DockOTheBay · 18/12/2021 20:35

Many of us will be ill anyway, so a complete lockdown won't be necessary - services and shops will be limited because so many will be ill. It'll be a natural restriction, so people can still travel and mix with friends and family.

I think you mean many of us will be isolating anyway, not ill. Hardly anyone is actually ill for 10 days with covid. I've known a lot of people in the past few months who have had it (as we all do) and none of them were actually ill for the isolation period. It is the imposed isolation which is causing the problem.

I really don’t want a lockdown and think many will be hit very hard by one so it’s tough
Benjispruce5 · 18/12/2021 20:48

@MarshaBradyo I agree. Who wants a lockdown? Needing one is another matter. He’s such a fool, promising irreversible removal of restrictions. We all knew a new variant could change everything, why didn’t he??

Octavia174 · 18/12/2021 20:56

Who does? thats why acting quickly on the scientific advice is vital plus they need to get the NHS capable of dealing with large numbers of admissions without shutting down everything else, inc AE.

Other countries manage it, why not the UK ?

We have wasted 2 years instead of getting more staff into the NHS.

I can’t imagine many countries finding the omicron wave that will hit easy either

Even if we acted quickly numbers would rise during it - so how long would you keep it going and if you lifted them what?

He wasn’t the only fool promising the road to freedom in July. Plenty within his party merrily bleated the same futile message.

Plenty of anti restriction groups joined his bandwagon too, plenty of bots and accounts on social media and on here worked tirelessly to minimise the consequences of high rates of Covid to make everything feel free and normal and label anything alternative to that as hysterical and doom mongering.

It’s been like being in the twilight zone. Folks completely blindsided at the prospect of lockdown- were they living under a rock all this time?

It beggars belief. Vote for a clown, you get a circus. And boy did we get a circus and now we’re on the precipice of yet ANOTHER lockdown. Who’d have thought it.

MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2021 21:01

Wise I have no idea who you are on about…

You seem a bit troubled by bots etc why?

Sure there might be a few, and I’m sure some political / union ones both sides maybe but most of us are just fed up and posting

Why am I not surprised it was Derbyshire police? They really gave the police a bad name. I would have thought that the fact she was 87 would have made it ok under caring responsibilities

People speaking about the Netherlands I have just read the rules, they are allowed to have 2 visitors to their homes per day (under 13s don’t count) and 4 over Xmas and into new year. The UK is one of the only countries in Europe who made it a criminal offense to see people in your own home, it’s barbaric and I still don’t think people realise what an outlier we were in this. There is a European law that prevents some countries being able to impose restrictions like this.

Malibuismysecrethome · 18/12/2021 22:31

I read that the Netherlands are closing pubs, restaurants and shops from 5 pm. Does Covid know the time?

LakieLady · 18/12/2021 22:43

It's fine just drive. There aren't going to be road blocks or extra police and there weren't any last year

A copper asked me why I was 25 miles from home last January, I was on my way to get my first Covid jab.

I suppose with so few people about, they didn't have anything better to do/

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2021 22:50

Yes, there were police asking where people were going in my son's University town last year.

Typical, if it wasn't for Brexit, we'd be under the same legislation.

Thanks, Brexiteers.

AnnieSmithson · 18/12/2021 22:58

I know it’s so annoying

justasking111 · 18/12/2021 23:23

Friends flew BA Los Angeles and back, return journey to Manchester. The whole experience was pretty bad they're so short staffed, the worst part was the transfer from Heathrow to Manchester was cancelled so they were bussed eight hours added to their destination with all the muddles.

Airport travel sounds hellish

SamDees · 19/12/2021 01:47

@ChequerBoard

"Boris won't countenance any "Boris cancels Christmas" headlines so they'll time it to be after Christmas Day at least."

I would rather we had a government that were capable of doing the right thing at the right time rather than basing their actions/inactions on the optics and media friendliness.

Hallelujah

Absolutely the correct position to take. All previous measures would have been more effective if they hadn't
A) been late and
B) ridiculously inconsistent in their application

Boris Johnson is a fool who only cares about himself and his wealthy donor mates

Let the bodies pile high, indeed. Get the plebs back to work.

This has already been in place for the last month (with covid pass required for pubs/restaurants since September). Leisure centres/theatres cinema as well. It's severely cut contacts as nothing except supermarkets open past 5pm/essential services. Our numbers have dropped.

As of today we're in hard lockdown - everything closed including schools.

User5329806 · 19/12/2021 06:35

Still allowed to see some family in your house though, unlike us in England when we have lockdown

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 07:21

According to the daily Mail online today the government are ignoring the advice to put restrictions in place now

Covidwoes · 19/12/2021 07:22

Yes I'm going crazy! Supposed to fly to Scotland (domestic flight) with DDs and DH to stay with my family for Christmas. I have no idea now if we'll get there, and my worry is if we are there that we could get stuck (am a teacher so need to get back for work). ARRRGH. I hate all the government dithering. It's the same every time!
