Anyone else going crazy waiting to hear when we’re going to be locked down …

… there’s a weekend meeting of SAGE & government…Oh the anxiety.

I’m supposed to be flying to see my family for Christmas on Tuesday. I am kicking myself for not booking to go earlier! If they announce lockdown before Christmas we’re all shafted aren’t we …?!

It’s the press and the drip feeding that really annoys me. I can’t stand it. I just want to be told what the plan is, clearly, so I can then make my own plans around it.

THIS! I'll be disappointed if we can't go to Scotland, but I just want to know so we can make alternative plans!
Dippydinosaurus · 19/12/2021 07:36

Good news overnight according to the BBC - the sage meeting was just an update and no decisions made. Looks like Boris is going to wait and see

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 08:27

Andy Burnham was on sky news just now and he even seemed reluctant to talk about any lockdowns , but only because Manchester isn't seeing the same levels of infections as London is at the moment.
Maybe the tier system should be brought back but just for London ?
It's obvious that London is affected a lot more ? At the moment anyway )

I think this just moves Covid round the country more effectively as people leave the higher area
the80sweregreat · 19/12/2021 08:31

Yeah, the tier system isn't great, but for AB to be reluctant to impose more restrictions did surprise me, it's clearly London that is being affected the most at the moment.

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2021 08:33

True, it is a bit surprising, I’ll take heart from that as it lowers the likelihood

Benjispruce5 · 19/12/2021 08:40

It was London that was affected really badly the last time but it quickly moved to the rest of the country and then London had much lower numbers. It’s no good waiting to see it get bad, you’ve got to prevent.
.

Benjispruce5 · 19/12/2021 08:45

@LakieLady True but we also wouldn’t have been so far ahead in the vaccine roll-out.

clarepetal · 19/12/2021 09:03

If it is common knowledge that viruses can mutate why the hell haven't the governments had a contingency plan for this?
Let's promise 40 fully staffed hospitals?
Nope, let's not provide them, let's actually close beds down, let's sell PPE contracts to our mates lining their pockets. Let's remove furlough. Let's tell the public they are on lockdown leaving thousands of people to DIE ALONE whilst the government has multiple parties.

Fuck off.

Benjispruce5 · 19/12/2021 09:07

@clarepetal still, people will vote Tory. Angry

Genuine question, who would you vote for instead who you think would do a better job?

I am not affiliated to any political party, and think it would have been a disaster whoever was in charge.

SirChenjins · 19/12/2021 11:05

Turn that around - who would do a worse job than Boris et al?

To simply keep repeating ‘who could do a better job’ is defeatist and achieves nothing apart from keeping this shambolic, arrogant, incapable lot in power to stick two fingers up at us all as they laugh in our faces and award themselves and their chums nice little contracts.

Benjispruce5 · 19/12/2021 11:08

@Lollipop999 I’d vote for Keir Starmer. Seems a decent human being and I’ll always choose prioritising schools and hospitals.

BarefootHippieChick · 19/12/2021 11:17

@the80sweregreat

According to the daily Mail online today the government are ignoring the advice to put restrictions in place now

My local paper is reporting that they ARE considering putting restrictions in place before Christmas now. Wish they'd all get their stories straight 🙄

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/12/2021 11:21

I agree with this and have no idea who to vote for. Obviously not Tory but I couldn’t vote Lib Dem either, and I don’t like the way Starmer hung Rosie Duffield out to dry. I don’t think k could vote for any of the main parties

I think balancing the spread of the virus with the economy and trying to please the over cautious and the “let it rip” brigade is an impossible task tbh.

The opposition parties have an easier task as they can say they would have provided more support and funding without actually having to do it, whereas the government have to consider the consequences.

I don’t like the multimillion pounds contracts for friends and the way the government drip feed the media before a big announcement. Those things annoy me massively. But I’m presuming that the other parties would do something similar.

I can’t get too wound up about the illegal “parties” last year to be honest and am more annoyed that the media have sat on those stories for a year. In our hospital last year we had a Christmas buffet, called a team lunch, which was also not following the sprit of the rules too, and we weren’t massively comfortable with it, but it still happened.

ChequerBoard · 19/12/2021 12:45

At this stage, with such an incompetent and frankly dangerously self-serving government I place, I think it's time to establish a coalition responsible for management of the pandemic.

We need to take the politics out of this. The Conservative 'party before country' bullshit is hampering our ability to react and make appropriate decisions as new information emerges and the situation changes.

Its a poisoned chalice for sure. But the PPE contracts, rule breaking and wasted Billions on Track and Trace are pure Tory.

Having said that, I can't vote Labour or Lib Dem due to their position on Self ID.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/12/2021 13:28

That's exactly how I feel @Wheresthebeach? I can't vote Green for the same reasons either. I'm hoping we get an independent but it doesn't really help with the bigger picture.

Wheresthebeach · 19/12/2021 13:31

@PinkSparklyPussyCat - its a dilemma for sure. So far only the Tories are against Self ID. I think I may end up voting on the single issue of women's rights next time - which would mean voting Tory for the first time in my life. Shocking to be in this situation.

justasking111 · 19/12/2021 13:38

Well Wales, Scotland and Ireland will go their own way the only brake being if Rishi says no furlough.

Which he will. They clearly don't want to pay out again.
justasking111 · 19/12/2021 13:47

@Skiptheheartsandflowers drakeford has a £600million warchest he withheld from business last time for his future socialist policies, sturgeon could have done the same. Why should Rishi top that up.

We're all getting a free tree to plant in Wales though
