Anyone else going crazy waiting to hear when we’re going to be locked down …

… there’s a weekend meeting of SAGE & government…Oh the anxiety.

I’m supposed to be flying to see my family for Christmas on Tuesday. I am kicking myself for not booking to go earlier! If they announce lockdown before Christmas we’re all shafted aren’t we …?!

I think they should lockdown before. You can’t make serious decisions and delay them became of compliance. If it’s needy, it’s needed. I’d rather lockdown now for a couple of weeks so that the new year can be better. Happy to spend a lockdown at home with Christmas food and tv but not a lack of school etc as the alternative.

User5329806 · 18/12/2021 19:04

It's only people that watch all he news that worry about this though, DH doesn't and seems oblivious to it, I mentioned lockdown today and he just gawped at me, he does watch the press conferences, I have to tell him when they are on. Many must be like him though and not worrying about it until it's announced.

LadyExpecting93 · 18/12/2021 19:06

Another lockdown... but we've been vaccinated? Wtf is the point anymore.

the80sweregreat · 18/12/2021 19:09

The vaccines were not designed to stop us getting covid, but lessen the risks of dying from it. It has taken me many months to realize this too to be honest
It does seem a bitter pill to swallow though after nearly two years.

Benjispruce5 · 18/12/2021 19:11

I vaccine is 100%. Why can’t people take that it? Also this baccalaureate has always been temporary just like the flu vax.

Benjispruce5 · 18/12/2021 19:12

Vaccine not baccalaureate!!!Hmm

Benjispruce5 · 18/12/2021 19:12

No vaccine is 100%. Sausage fingers.

Guacamole001 · 18/12/2021 19:12

Well at least we dont live in the Netherlands I guess.

User5329806 · 18/12/2021 19:14

In Europe though they are allowed to see their families aren't they

vickyp0llard · 18/12/2021 19:22

Oh man, I'm really gutted. I don't like xmas, could live without all the tatty presents, bland roast dinners and seeing the in-laws, but we were going to organise our first ever party for NYE. It's all I've been looking forward to for months in my shitty life. Will be really sad if it gets cancelled. It's been such a crap year and now it seems like it's going right back to how it was last winter.

PilatesPeach · 18/12/2021 19:25

will gyms be open for classes and training? (but not the cafe bit)
Not realistic to expect outside in Jan and Feb in the UK.

TheHOHOHOnlyMrsM · 18/12/2021 19:26

Whatever SAGE, unofficial SAGE and others in the know are strongly advising is necessary, I think any increase in restrictions will be delayed until at least the evening of 26/12 and will be less than recommended - for political reasons, including Boris' own future.

User5329806 · 18/12/2021 19:27

I think we can probably guarantee it won't be a Happy New Year

waterlego · 18/12/2021 19:27

I bloody hope so @PilatesPeach, otherwise I’ll be unable to earn any money.

strawberriesarenot · 18/12/2021 19:28

@User5329806

In Europe though they are allowed to see their families aren't they
I think in France and Germany at least. I don't know why we can't be the same. It's unendurable to think of another lockdown like last winter, my mum crying with fear and loneliness down the phone and the police stopping cars. They tailed me for 20 minutes and then turned me back. She was 87 and alone but they said if she had food in the house and no medical needs I couldn't go. I can't bear it again.
PilatesPeach · 18/12/2021 19:30

@waterlego me too! I teach classes for a living - no other means of income and no partner. SEISS did not help me as went SE too recently before lockdown 1

waterlego · 18/12/2021 19:34

I teach classes too @PilatesPeach!

Like you, I also didn’t get any help in the other lockdowns, but I do have a partner who works for himself and was able to continue working throughout. His business has taken a big hit, but he was at least able to keep a roof over our heads! Sounds like things have been very tough for you. I’ll keep everything crossed for us both that we’ll be able to continue teaching!

PilatesPeach · 18/12/2021 19:37

@waterlego thanks and to you too!

LuluBlakey1 · 18/12/2021 19:38

We won't be locked down like the first time. The Daily Mail is shit-stirring as usual. If anything we might be asked to limit our contacts after Christmas for a couple of weeks to family. Things will not close down like the first time.
We can make sure of that by being sensible about it now. Newcastle was heaving with hundreds of young people crammed into pubs/bars/clubs on streets and the metro last night and will be tonight. It's just stupid.

Octavia174 · 18/12/2021 19:39

@Guacamole001

Well at least we dont live in the Netherlands I guess.
Uk deaths per million = 2,151

Netherlands deaths per million = 1,188

Yes acting in the interests of your population instead of the tabloid press and your loony right wing MPs is so terrible isn't it?

the80sweregreat · 18/12/2021 19:41

I don't blame the young really ; I bet their mums told them to be careful , but when your young your invincible. The pubs are open still , what are they meant to do ?
I think it'll be lockdown lite too next few weeks !
Back to arrows and queuing outside the stores :(

Foolsrule · 18/12/2021 19:52

We need to lockdown now or there’ll be no school in January, guaranteed. The UK does too little, too late, every single time.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/12/2021 19:55

That's awful @strawberriesarenot. How on earth can the police say if you Mum had food in the house and no medical needs you couldn't visit? My Uncle is 86 and we visited him a few times during lockdown but had a bag of tins of soup in the boot in case we were stopped.

MarshaBradyo · 18/12/2021 19:56

Octavia+ are you looking at excess deaths?

itsgettingwierd · 18/12/2021 19:57

I honestly don't think schools will be closed by government. They maybe by staffing but I think PM would rather this (by stealth) than by him announcing it.

Same with meeting. There will be restrictions but it'll be so much so that people have to make tough choices because they can't run rather than closing things himself.

I hope they keep sports facilities and schools open (despite working a school and knowing it's very high risk in terms of exposure).

But I do hope they put back in LFT and start requiring proof of tests etc and schools start taking stricter action on kids sent in unwell.

We had a kid in for a week coughing their lungs up. We were told no temp so so could stay. Kid had calpol before school everyday and cried every afternoon. Her sibling was off school with same illness. We were told not covid (don't even think they were tested) but it's horrid now because it's not covid kids are sent in so Ill nowadays and then we staff catch it and feel we have to turn up because "it's not covid".
