@whatagloriousthingtobe

I don't think it'll be a full on lockdown with furlough etc. but I do think covid passes will be made mandatory everywhere, even pubs etc. on another note, I got a text today claiming to be from the nhs telling me my Covid pass is about to expire and to get my booster or I'll be fined Hmm
No you didn't...what?!Grin
JanglyBeads · 13/12/2021 22:26

Here’s the scientists of SAGE

www.gov.uk/government/publications/sage-98-minutes-coronavirus-covid-19-response-7-december-2021/sage-98-minutes-coronavirus-covid-19-response-7-december-2021

  • worth reading all of it, but here’s an extract:

“16. Given the rapid increase, decision makers will need to consider urgently which measures to introduce to slow the growth of infections if the aim is to reduce the likelihood of unsustainable pressure on the NHS.”

DockOTheBay · 13/12/2021 22:26

What I want to know is what happens when everyone is self isolating because they've caught Omicron. Aren't we going to have supply shortages again due to staff being off sick/isolating? I haven't really heard this mentioned but it's surely going to be one of the biggest problems?

If omicron turns out to be really mild and cause no more than cold symptoms, there would be no need for people to isolate for 10 days. Staff shortages have historically been caused by close contacts having to isolate for 10 days, this might not be necessary.

FindingMeno · 13/12/2021 22:27

I can't see any point in speculating.
I'm just going to sit quietly and wait and see.

Topbird29 · 13/12/2021 22:30

I think they may let us have xmas- but stress it's our own responsibility, to test before meeting up etc, as many won't be compliant if they lock down xmas. Not after last year and their shenanigans. But may then lock down before new years eve to try and knock new year parties on the head and the inevitable spread (of the virus caught at xmas).

Kitkat151 · 13/12/2021 22:30

@Thewiseoneincognito

My opinion is Lockdown is coming -but it will come too late and we’ll likely be under restrictions until late spring.
I think restrictions from Jan to until April 22
rrhuth · 13/12/2021 22:31

@NutCheeseBag

Dying with omicron, not necessarily of omicron
FFS this rubbish again. This line is wheeled out constantly. Keep telling yourself it is 'just a cold' too Hmm.
WoodenReindeer · 13/12/2021 22:32

Oh. Just read SAGE through.

Looks like they're saying universal measures would increase adherance (rather than tiered areas I guess) and also that as it spreads so fast preventative measures rather than all the test and trace/contacts?

Also more airborne...

This is actually frightening.

WoodenReindeer · 13/12/2021 22:35

It looks from SAGE they are looking at restrictions. And esrlier rather than later. Which basically means a last minute gov decicion late (maybe day after schools go back? Again.)

I just cant see how. How would they get complaince? Furlough again??? Schools??? . So many businesses would go under. And mental health. Mine is hanging on by a thread. I can't see how they'd impliment restrictions that SAGE look like they're asking for.

I read elsewhere that hospitals have an extra drive to kick people out to make space 😔

rrhuth · 13/12/2021 22:39

@Blubells

Omicron is very very serious. Listen to the scientists.

Could you please provide some links to those scientists?

Everything I've read is that Omicron causes only mild symptoms.

Are you joking? Everything you'ce read must be absolute rubbish on FB then.

Links to scientists saying Omicron is serious?

Why not start with Whitty and Vallance? Then work your way through the SAGE membership. Then have a look at Tim Spector.

There is abundant info explaining why more transmissible + milder is potentially going to fuck everything up really quickly. Properly fuck it up as in NHS overwhelmed.

siestalady · 13/12/2021 22:40

Because its precisely what bojo said earlier today "someone has died WITH omicron" - I read elsewhere that the patient went to hospital for other reasons and covid (that happened to be omicron) was only picked up whilst they were in.

2boysand1princess · 13/12/2021 22:40

@Blubells

Yeah, because the first people hospitalised and dying of Omicron is just 'scaremongering'. FGS

The person died WITH Omicron, not OF as you imply!

150k approx deaths of covid, yet I know so many people who still claim these were all cases that were in hospital with another condition and just happened to test positive for covid and die. 🤦‍♀️ If you look at the average deaths pre covid and compare it’s fairly obvious what the truth is, but people still manage to convince themselves it’s all a coincidence. Omricon isn’t that widespread or dominant at the moment that when this poor individual was taken into hospital and passed away he/she just happened to be positive for the omricon strain too, the chances of that are pretty slim. More likely he/she may have had an underlying condition and passed away as a result of covid causing complications. It’s like when the original covid strain hit the U.K. and the very first few deaths happened and people said oh it was pneumonia or a stroke that was the cause. No acknowledgement of the fact that the virus leads to organ failure, strikes pneumonia etc
Whitecushion · 13/12/2021 22:49

I have a relative who is a registrar. At the moment almost all covid deaths are people who died with covid not of it . They already had serious health problems. This may change but that is what I have been told.

That's a scam, it's not a genuine NHS text. I got the same one. Don't click the link.

This is STILL the news coming out of South Africa. It will have been present there for a month.

South Africa's Health Ministry said it was unable to say with certainty if any of its COVID-19 deaths were caused by Omicron as deaths were not broken down by variant.>The NHS was put on a crisis footing tonight as hospitals in England were told to discharge as many patients as possible while estimated daily Omicron cases hit 200,000 and the variant claimed its first life in the UK. ...

In a letter to hospitals, NHS England chiefs said patients who could be discharged to care homes, hospices, their own homes or hotels before Christmas to free up beds, should be. The letter from NHS England’s chief executive, Amanda Pritchard, and medical director Prof Stephen Powis said the service was facing a level 4 “national incident”.

Hotels are already being turned into temporary care facilities staffed with workers flown in from Spain and Greece to relieve rising pressure on NHS hospital beds. ...

They have also been told to take ambulance-borne patients into A&E more quickly so that paramedics can get back on the road to answer more 999 calls, speed up efforts to bring in nurses from overseas to help tackle the NHS’s lack of staff, and send as many patients as possible for surgery at private hospitals.

whatagloriousthingtobe · 13/12/2021 22:56

Won't let me tag anyone ! I actually deleted the text cause it was clearly a load of bollocks but it said something along the lines of 'NHS: Please update your Covid pass and book your booster or you're at risk of being fined' then a link to something I did not click on !

How does this help with the NHS being overwhelmed issue? It doesn't.

Plus they are all someone's relative.

You mean the proven liars whitty and Vallance after last year I don't trust a word they say. And a section of sage isnt made out of behavioural scientists.

whatagloriousthingtobe · 13/12/2021 23:13

@Againstmachine jog my memory for me what did they lie about ? Can't ember so much has happened !!

Does it matter? It was likely the covid on top of the serious condition that killed them. They may not have died without it.

Yes, sadly MSN got the better of you.
Watch this instead, it takes 6 mins of your time and may just help a little...
There are more and more highly established medical professionals out there trying to get their voices heard, such as Prof Angus Dalgleish, St George's Hospital Medical School:

LifeIsWhat · 13/12/2021 23:37

Wow, I just watched the video. This professor is very brave and what he said actually make a lot of sense. Thank you for sharing. @murcimari
