Is a lockdown coming ?? I've Genuine concerns we're in the shit again... or has the media got the better of me?

Blubells · 13/12/2021 21:48

What are the real chances they actually died of something else within that time frame?

Very high actually. They could have died of any condition.

Lightstoobright · 13/12/2021 21:50

What I want to know is what happens when everyone is self isolating because they've caught Omicron. Aren't we going to have supply shortages again due to staff being off sick/isolating? I haven't really heard this mentioned but it's surely going to be one of the biggest problems?

Wolfiefan · 13/12/2021 21:51

I’ve only heard what tumble has. More transmissible but less serious.
I can’t bring myself to be seriously anxious about this. I’ve had all three jabs. I feel I used up my share of terror and fear when shielding. Now I will risk assess and try and live my life.

MichaelAndEagle · 13/12/2021 21:51

A proper lockdown means only key workers going to work, anyone else who can't wfh on furlough.
I just don't see furlough coming back.

"@GivingUpOnSleep of course it's possible. People die of things every minute of every day. Cancer, strokes, heart failure, Alzheimer's, frailty.

DockOTheBay · 13/12/2021 21:54

Oh FFS, all this bollocks of people protesting it's dying WITH not OF Covid (whatever variant). What are the real chances they actually died of something else within that time frame? Of course it's possible, but less likely.
Not that unlikely. If they were in hospital for something else and tested positive there, which is certainly not unheard of. And one death out of the thousands of omicron cases is it that unlikely that 1 in 1000 people died of an unrelated cause within 28 days of a test?

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 13/12/2021 21:59

@Blubells

Omicron is very very serious. Listen to the scientists.

Could you please provide some links to those scientists?

Everything I've read is that Omicron causes only mild symptoms.

This is STILL the news coming out of South Africa. It will have been present there for a month. The UK govt is causing mass. hysteria at the moment for no reason other than to control the public and give themselves a pat on the back once people get their boosters.

And with a mild vaccine resistant variant, of course symptoms will be mild. But the govt will no doubt chalk up the lower hospitalisations and deaths to the booster. And not the fact that the Omicron variant was mild enough not to actually need a jab in the first place

paranoidnamechanger · 13/12/2021 22:00

I feel nonplussed about it, really. The government will do anything to avoid paying furlough hence them ramping up the Fear Factor and we can all get boosters.

megustalacerveza · 13/12/2021 22:00

@bingandsula

Carefully timed for when most people are due their boosters isn't an accident. One theory is it's to get people to have their boosters. Although if the first two jabs don't work against the bloody thing why on earth would a third jab of the same thing work for goodness sake!

Personally I think it may be that we're back to square one and they don't want to admit it. Jabs don't work at all against the new variant and so they're distracting us until they can find a jab that does.

This has been explained over and over and over.

Why do people fail to do the absolute bare minimum of reading and then think they're being clever asking questions like this?

Of course it will.

And then all the posters shouting about how we should just 'get on with it' and stop having any restrictions will be whining about not getting any post for days on end, their local shops all being shut, their supermarket deliveries cancelled and their bins not collected.

I can't wait.

All our schools in Surrey are breaking up this Friday and sending children home with laptops as they have been told children won't be returning straight away in January. I wondered if any other teachers have also been told this?. It's 3 different schools in the area who's doing this so far?

Buzzinwithbez · 13/12/2021 22:06

Lots of info here from someone who has worked on the vaccine.
Booster works, two vaccines and prior infection works.

@Blubells

Yeah, because the first people hospitalised and dying of Omicron is just 'scaremongering'. FGS

The person died WITH Omicron, not OF as you imply!

And you know that how? The facts are that we simply do not know how this variant is going to act. The scientists seem very concerned. The government- who can not really afford another wave, financially or otherwise- are worried. We're all hoping it's not going to be bleak news, but it doesn't seem great, does it?
earsup · 13/12/2021 22:07

I read today on british heart foundation site as was organising a donation.....that each day 460 people die of heart desease in uk and 500 each day of obesity related illness....that isnt being splashed over news papers and tabloids....those stats are much higher than any covid deaths we have had !...i dont read about the fear and panic anymore....the vulnerable and elderly already been had by it....seems these days you can only die from covid and nothing else !

At the height of it 1000 people a day were dying of covid... so I am afraid you are wrong.

Bebedoogoogle · 13/12/2021 22:15

@earsup oh my god where have you been for 20 months? Hiding under a rock? Services, businesses and schools will shut down if everyone gets ill. If you have heart disease and suffer a heart attack.... you won’t be getting treatment. So those figures you quoted will be even higher. Across all diseases and accidents.

whatagloriousthingtobe · 13/12/2021 22:15

I don't think it'll be a full on lockdown with furlough etc. but I do think covid passes will be made mandatory everywhere, even pubs etc. on another note, I got a text today claiming to be from the nhs telling me my Covid pass is about to expire and to get my booster or I'll be fined Hmm

The difference being that heart disease and obesity are not infectious and not subject to exponential growth with a doubling rate of 2-3 days, as Omicron appears to have.

It is still very early days with Omicron, and its severity is not yet clear. Even if it is much milder than Delta, the sheer number of cases could result in a huge number of hospitalisations and deaths in a frighteningly short period of time.

That might not happen, and hopefully it won’t. But if we wait to find out, it will be too late to take action. So we take action now in the hope we can turn the infection curve downwards.

chris270559 · 13/12/2021 22:24

There won't be any Lockdown unless Hospital admissions rise fast, he'll go Hurd immunity which is why they want everyone to have the booster
