In Vienna yesterday, a massive peaceful demonstration on an unimaginable scale took place to protest against mandatory vaccinations. People of all ages took to the streets. Mainstream British media, as usual, are misreporting their numbers at 44,000 - there were at least 6-7 times over that many people, if not more. Austrians are primarily peaceful law-abiding citizens, so hopefully it'll send a strong message to the world when they take to the streets like this.

Yeah, their message is very persuasive, I must admit.
Kudos to the Austrians

Is it it me or has there been an influx of anti-vaxxer/conspiracy theorists on MN lately? There are so many of these types of threads at the moment. I think lots of people are really scared and unable to accept that things are looking serious right now.
There’s loads on here at the moment. A proper influx of crazies.

Yeah, I’ve seen pictures of them attacking the police. What a bunch of wankers.

Yes - noticed it with the annoucement of boosters being offered to everyone

Gets in the way of proper debate & derails every thread!

madmomma · 18/12/2021 15:52

@HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule

I agree with you. It’s important that governments realise that a sizeable and demographic do not in any way support totalitarian laws.

I don’t need to agree with the politics of the speaker to understand and agree with the principles behind this peaceful protest.

I do not want to be ordered to do anything to my body that I do not agree with. If that were imposed upon me I absolutely would resist.

Absolutely this.

Literally rife with them. It’s a shame the usernames don’t have a membership start date displayed so we can see the amount of ‘newbies’.

Lots of agendas being pushed on here at the moment, which is fine it’s freedom of speech and MN is a forum open to all but you have to question the intent behind some of them, I don’t think it’s good with some of them.

Somewhere there’s a room of people running several MN accounts each trying to undermine the severely of this Omicron wave and sway public opinion. Hopefully MNHQ is on it otherwise a lot of people are going to be misled.

Charles11 · 18/12/2021 17:10

@Thewiseoneincognito all the available data and much professional opinion is showing that omricon is mild. It’s not made up by scheming mners.
@Thewiseoneincognito all the available data and much professional opinion is showing that omricon is mild. It’s not made up by scheming mners.
Scientists & anyone rational aren't primarily concerned because omicron may cause more severe disease, it's about how transmissible it is.

Even if (hypothetically) it was 10x milder, it being 10x more transmissible would mean we would still be in a problematic situation, as it translates to the same number of people ill/needing hospital care at any one time.

And this in the context of considerable uncertainty - we do not know if it causes a milder form of disease, it may very well be comparable to delta. This is why the majority of epidemiologists are urging caution.

You will not be pleased if a loved one is in car crash, requires emergency surgery & an ICU bed, but no services are available due to saturation by coronavirus.

Initially that was thought to be the case. Now however there’s genuine concern this is no different from Delta only far more transmissible. But you know that already if you’re up to speed with most recent findings, right?

Charles11 · 18/12/2021 17:45

There’s genuine concern but no actual data. Nothing from anywhere.
Every year the nhs struggles with respiratory illness with vulnerable and elderly. It will be the same this year.

So you've gone from saying all the available data and much professional opinion is showing that omricon is mild to there is no actual data

That...does not check out.

Please see my post above.

@ollyollyoxenfree Apologies I was replying to the post above about genuine concern that this was no different from Delta.

Errrrrr what? You’re making no sense whatsoever. I’m not sure if you’re a crank or just deluded, either way I have no idea what you’re trying to say 😬
Charles11 · 18/12/2021 18:04

I’m multi tasking currently. Not a crank. Smile
Let me try again -
There may be concern that this variant is severe and may cause as many hospitalisations as Delta but there is no actual data to back this up. It’s all speculative and opinions from certain professionals.
Most professionals are still saying it’s mild and even Tim Spector on the Zoe app is saying it’s like a cold.

AndreaC67 · 18/12/2021 18:05

@scottishtablet23

Ok i see some Austrians have protested but what is it you want?

If health services cannot cope, then when you have a non CV accident or illness, you can't get treated.

I don't see the alternative.

@Libertybauble

Good for them - ordinary people standing up to the appalling authoritarianism being inflicted on them. I don’t think that being opposed to mandatory medical procedures or segregation of a group in society is a terribly far right position. Sounds like some of you would be very much at home in the far right, though you probably consider yourselves to be liberals.

Glad to see this and I will be marching myself if they try this in the UK. And I have had three vaccinations.

I agree with this

@Charles11

Tim Spector is making the point that the triad of symptoms are different to delta and is urging people with this presentation to get tested anyway.

He is not making the point that we should be treating the omicron wave as if it was just the common cold.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/12/2021 18:15

Can’t be a cold. 7 people have died from it. Do people die from colds?

KaycePollard · 18/12/2021 18:20

30 0,000 at a far right rally in Austria! I find that somewhat concerning.

Yes, look what happened last time the far-right ran Austria….

Yeah absolutely. It’s mad. There’s a massive massive thread about how no one is going to comply if we have more restrictions.

It only seems to be on here. I’m on other sm groups and it’s nothing like this. It’s been infiltrated!

Errr yes they do, elderly people suffer from excess deaths in winter from colds and flu which then turns in pneumonia and they have done every winter in history.
Kudos to the Austrians
ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 18/12/2021 18:57

I know they can with flu.

I will be marching with you @Libertybauble as will a lot of my NHS colleagues who are all pro-vaccine and triple jabbed. None of us signed up to abandon ethics and informed consent and force people into medical procedures they don't want.
bluetongue · 18/12/2021 20:23

Hmm, Sadiq Khan has said the vast majority of people in hospital in London are unvaccinated. This means you could be going into lockdown to protect the unvaccinated. How does everyone feel about that?

I don’t love the idea of compulsory vaccinations but I hate the idea of more lockdowns even more.
